Look Mr. David, or whoever was driving the shuttle on Friday morning last week: I get that your job is to drive people back and forth from the train station to the ferry, and as such it doesn't really matter to you when you leave/arrive. But there was a reason I asked if we'd make the train leaving in nine minutes. I was somewhat comforted by your laid-back assurance, and a little worried about your nonchalant disinterest in leaving quickly as you tried to fill up the shuttle with more people. But when we arrive at the train station as the train is leaving (without us, if that wasn't clear), you have cost other people their time, which can affect THEIR jobs. In case you were at all wondering, I didn't really think you would offer a refund because we missed the train, but I would've appreciated an apology. To everyone else looking to use David Brothers Taxi: Thankfully, we live in a world where this is no longer a monopoly. Get yourself a Lyft, or an Uber...maybe even to Babylon (check the schedule). It'll cost you about the same for one car, as opposed to paying $5 per head for two people, and you might get someone who cares about getting you somewhere on time. read more

If there was ever a local taxi service that deserved to go bankrupt because of Uber, this is it. I often feel sorry for yellow cabs in Manhattan, but David Brothers is another story. It is bringing disaster on itself with terrible service. Their main sin for me is that they wait for as many passengers as possible to fill their vans before leaving for the train station. So even if you think you've timed your trip to leave plenty of time to make a train, there is a good chance you will it miss it, thanks to David's greed. I have had terrible experiences both very recently and long ago. Even if you make your train, you will be so stressed from the scramble to reach the train before it pulls out of the station that it will ruin the end of your beach weekend. I have run up steps. I have run over train overpasses. I have done a passable impression of Tom Cruise running. I have missed trains. All thanks to David Brothers. This is even the case when you call and reserve a car in your own name. When I did this, the driver STILL waited to see if anyone else was coming off the ferry who wanted to go to the train. So individual cars are a joke too. I don't know what their finances are, so maybe their abusive system is working well for them. To passengers, my simple advice is this: If you have a time-sensitive issue--usually a train to catch--make an Uber reservation in advance (you can time it for the ferry arrival) and forget David Brothers. I have tried this twice and it has worked well. My experience with David Brothers, by contrast, has ranged from bad to unbelievably bad. read more

Taxi drivers are professional drivers, yet what I observed this morning was anything but: I was behind a David's taxi that was tailgating, speeding, and also passed a car on the left by going through a left turn lane! (The car should be checked out as well, because the directionals don't seem to be working.) Our destination (LIRR Babylon) was the same, so my final observation was that there was a passenger in his car! Thankfully, the person made it there in one piece. read more

Can I say Jesus shuttles-worth? Anthony, the driver, was quick to identify which shuttles were going where. Had a smooth 5 minute ride from the bay shore train station down to the ferry terminal, and instantly forgot the all important bottles of Rosè. No problem, Anthony double backed to the train station where I could stock up on bottles of summer water, before heading to kismet. David's has always served me well between the train and the ferry. Last night, in particular, the dispatcher, Jimmy (I believe his name is?), was amazing! At the last minute an unforeseen signal problem caused the West bound trains to be cancelled for hours. As i typically travel only w/ plastic, no greens, I didn't have the $11 cash needed to get a taxi from Bay Shore to Babylon to catch an in-service train to Penn. But like a Knight in Shining armor, this amazingly kind David's Taxi dispatcher gave me his OWN $ to pay a driver to rush me to Baylon -- in time for the next train. this customer service is over-and-above anything I've ever experienced. This taxi company is very unprofessional... Was at Fire Island Ferries... driver was yelling another driver did not pick up any customers and sped through the terminal.. they make customers wait if they show up at all... sometimes having to make 2-3 calls asking where the cab is... customer service is also rude... not willing to ask how can I help you... hang up in your ear... very unprofessional... Cars are not kept up... I do not recommend this company.... needs complete transformation. read more

The drivers are nice but they are consistently twice the price of Uber or Lyft. (Unless you're in a van or people mover) I've checked this dozens of times and it's always 2X. I was told a price for a ride, got in the car and rode for 5 mins. Then there was a conversation on the radio and the man raised the rate 3 times what I was told. I was told to then pay up front or be driven back. It's not worth the $45 filing fee to sue them in small claims court for reneging on a verbal contract, but this business should be ashamed. I cant say enough wonderful things, thank you to Peter and Brian at Davids taxi. I left my purse with wallet and cell phone in the taxi and didn't realize it until I was at my destination, Fire Island. I called the dispatch, and the driver, Brian turned in my purse, and peter arranged to have it put on the next ferry. I didn't have to do a thing. Driver was rude, told people to hurry up. At arrival, he told us to run. When we ran, he said 'thanks driver great job', in a brash, sarcastic manner. We missed our ferry and need to wait over an hour. Way too much aggravation and stress for the start of a beach holiday. I'm sure 90% of the time they are fine, but they need to drop the attitude and focus on getting people to ferries on time rather than being unnecessarily sniping and mean. read more

Anytime I have ever tried to use their services they have been rude and have even made me miss the ferry on several occasions. I've only used their fire island ferry service between the train and ferry terminal. There were several satisfactory experiences, but lately, not so much. This company has a knack for missing trains and ferries by a hair. They have turned packing buses and pissing off their customers into an art form. But when you create and control a monopoly on a service, the incentive to provide a good service dissipates. On my trip this weekend, there were two buses waiting at bay shore.... One for ocean beach and one for seaview. The ferry was in 10 minutes, and most people on the bus were going for that ferry. We waited at bay shore until the bus was filled to capacity, with no standing room left, arriving at the ferry terminal just in time to see it pull out. Was $50 extra worth making a busload of people wait around for another hour? Apparently. On the way back, I got off the ferry with just enough time to make the next train from Babylon. I tried a regular taxi before making my way to the buses. The driver said he doesn't go to Babylon. I went up to the 4 waiting buses, and was informed in very unconcerned tones that no one was going to Babylon. Clearly, I'm no one. So thank you David Brother's taxi for wasting three hours of my time and taking my money. I'll close saying that I hope you find your way back to the service part of car service. Until then, I'll take the 15 minute walk to the ferries instead. read more

Their shuttle service from parking to Fire island ferry is a total rip off. We were about to pay $20 for 2 minute bus ride. They charge $5 per person, the same for little kids!! And they have bad attitude. We love Fire island but do not wanna waste a penny on these guys. read more

I've used David's several times but my last encounter was absolutely terrible. I came off the last ferry of the night and was told by a driver that there was a 11:59 pm train from bay shore. I originally was going to go to Babylon but they insisted a Bayshore train was leaving sooner. I arrive at Bay Shore and the next train is at 12:55 am!!! They completely lied to me just for my money. I called them to explain what happened and was presented with equally horrible customer service by a night worker. Overall I'm sitting at this station very upset because they lied to me just for my $5 and now I have to wait an hour. read more

Unreliable !!! I made a reservation for a ride from east side and Taxi company decided to cancel the ride. We got no notice and we're sitting and waiting for half an hour before we found out no ride is showing. Now train won't get us on time for ferrybuilding- half a day LOST!!! Excellent service! I found myself in Bay Shore after the last bus back to the North Shore. I called David's and found their rate to be extremely competitive. This taxi company is amazing! the luggage worker micheal is the most helpful and most reliable person on the bus. he helped me get from the train to the ferry and even occupied me during the ride. by talking to me about my vacation and answered a few questions i had. then when we got there i didn't know which ferry to take because i have never been to fire island before , and he directed me to the right ferry very early so i wouldn't miss it ! from now on i will always take david's brothers transportand i recommend them instead of taking an uber or any other car service. read more

Its fine - they are usually on time, and the drivers are for the most part hard working and dealing with difficult and demanding customers. It does suck when they try to pack you into the tiny vans with a billion other people, but that happens less and less and they are using the big vans now which are pretty good. If I could give the taxi company a 0 I would I called and asked if they could pick me up in about 15 minutes. ( I had to repeat all this information many times as I am very sick and hard to understanstand but I still had to get to physical therapy for my knee). All was going well, she said that "her driver will have me to my physical therapy appointment on time. The cost is $30" I told her I'd never ridden in a cab a needed to know if they called when they get here or if I needed to be outside (no complaints, she said to be outside Driver got there she was very nice, she seemed to have problems getting in touch with company to tell them she's picked me up so she kept pulling over on the side of the road. A little over a mile into the trip she asked if they asked me if I'd been told the fare, I said yes and got out my credit card. She said she couldn't run it, I have to call in and they'll run it over the phone. NOT I called in the lady said "you'll have to come in now and pay and with credit card, you pay for the part of the ride you've taken, the ride to our office and the ride to your physical therapy office" her word verbadem. There was no point in that as I would have .missed therapy. She all but said get out of the cab now!o I ended up sitting under a small tree on the service road south of sunrise highway for almost an hour until someone I knew could come and pick me up. She knew I'd recently been in a serious car accident and was going to physical therapy for my knee, she knew I'd never been in a cab, she knew I was very sick....... I'm not saying she should feel bad bad for me or that I should not pay, I could have paid over the phone ALSO if its cash only they need to tell you that on the phone! STAY AWAY read more

I pondered on this review for a while. Most of the drivers are amazing no complaints on them, it's the dispatcher. The other day I was so baffled by this dispatcher behavior. Long story short there I was outside waiting for the cab I called a 2nd time cause I was running late. I told this person that I had to catch a train at said time. This person laughed in a condensing way and told me I wasn't going to catch that train cause of another passenger. Mind you I've been taking the cab at the same time so I knew the drill. Then the dispatcher said I called a minute before the second call, but I told this person the actual time that I called and then they were like "Wow 3 whole minutes" I told that person that it was unnecessary to take that tone with me they immediately brushed it off. I got to my trai n on time the driver was great. As I sat on the train I realized this wasn't the first time the a dispatcher was rude to me. Around this area this is pretty much the only taxi company around here. So maybe they feel that they could pretty much talk to the customers any type of way. But since Lyft and Uber are becoming more popular I would assume that they would like to keep their business going. At least be more professional about it. I really thought long and hard that this is a business I no longer want to give my money to. read more

Had Christmas party at my house last night in islip village. Needed taxi to transport guests from stony brook to islip and back to stony brook. Driver arrived early for the 6pm pick up and was right on time for the 11pm return. Well worth the price transporting 9 people; sure beats the cost of dwi! I called for a taxi to the Fire Island ferry from my house in Bay Shore this past Saturday 8/1, app. 3 miles. I was quoted a price of $8 for me and the wife. When we get to the Kismet terminal the driver calls dispatch for a price, I say they quoted me a price of $8, he says "that sound low". They contact the driver and say $12, when I again mention the $8 quote he says "I knew that was too low". It wasn't just the $4, you just felt like you are being scammed. So now when I call, I will get a quote and a name, and BEFORE I get in the cab I will have the driver call dispatch to confirm the price. If I were to guess, I would say we are not the first people this has happened to. It's a shame when you have to go through all this for a 5 minute cab ride. I would have given 1 star but, the driver was on time and seemed to be caught in the middle of this nonsense. read more

This company provides a shuttle service from the train to the ferry for people who are too lazy or too late to do the 10 minute walk. They treat their passengers with as much respect as their passengers give them. They know the ferry and train schedules and do a great job helping people make their connections. read more
