As far as dental office visits go, my recent visit went really well. Although I have been to Pittsburgh Oral Surgery for prior dental work this was my first visit to their Fort Couch Road office. Normally I go to their Monroeville, PA office, rescheduled my appointment because of work related scheduling problems. Arrived approx. 7:00 AM for an 8:30 AM appointment and was warmly greeted and made to feel "right at home." The person working in the office asked me to update my existing on-file information. I asked if there was a place in the building to get a cup of coffee, she promptly offered to make me a cup; it was very good and appreciated. After returning the paper work a short wait ensued and then a dental assistant escorted me back to the place where the procedure would take place. The room was exceptionally clean with a great view out of a large window; all of the furniture and equipment seemed up-to-date and in a good state of repair. Next, I met Dr. Eric Smiga; he greeted me with a great smile and positive demeanor. He explained the upcoming procedure, reviewed my paperwork and x-ray, examined my tooth, discussed the potential implant, injected some painkiller, made sure I was comfortable and said he would return after a few minutes. In the interim, another person came in to explain costs and insurance terms & conditions; a very transparent and upfront process -- no surprises. Shortly thereafter Dr. Smiga returned for the "main event." He gave me an "insurance" injection of painkiller and proceeded to remove the tooth. Before I knew it, the procedure was complete and the dental assistant was explaining post extraction procedures that should be followed. Someone in the office called my prescription (an antibiotic) into my local pharmacy and I was good to go. Before leaving the office, arranged for a 1-week follow-up appointment with Dr. Smiga at their Monroeville office to make sure everything was healing the way it should. Someone, don't remember whom, suggested taking an over the counter pain pill as a proactive defense against pain when the procedure painkiller wore off. No problem had some Tylenol in the car. After arriving at my car, took a pain pill from my backpack and glanced at my watch before heading off to work -- it was 8:20 AM. I was out of there before my appointment was scheduled to start. Follow-up; took one Extra Strength Tylenol three times 6-hours apart after the extraction and have remained pain free, no issues. Had my follow-up visit this morning -- no problems, everything looks good. I don't think anyone looks forward to going to the dentist, but from beginning to end, Pittsburgh Oral Surgery made this a very positive experience.

On the day of the surgery he didn't come out to say hello to me & never once greeted my daughter (the actual patient!). Everything was handled by the nurse anesthetist and support staff (who were very nice). They tried to bill a CT Scan for the initial consultation saying, which definitely didn't occur. Finally, their cost estimate of what I owed was higher resulting in a small overpayment ($42). I called the office and was assured they would send a checknwhich was never received. Yes, the necessary procedure got done. But there is a whole lot of ego and little to no bedside manner to be had with this provider.

I took the first one and was told to bring the second one and take it there. When I got there I told them that the first dose didn't work at all. I felt no difference. The doctor refused to give me the second dose. He proceeded to give me the Novocain which was excruciating. He repeatedly told me to stop making pain noises in his face. I paid 225 dollars to have that treatment. I paid 225 dollars not to be treated with respect, but to be treated like a child. He didn't respect my fears, I feel totally violated and disrespected.

Literally PAINLESS. They were patient during the process, but very efficient. I had a straight forward root canal on a back, top molar. Surprisingly quick, only took them about 20 minutes! And even the numbing injections were painless, because they numbed me topically first. If you end up needing an endodontist, they are the best!! You are in good hands!

This man CARED about his patients!! If u had a question he would encourage u to call. He was there for his patients. He took the TIME he needed to make everyone feel COMFORTABLE. Comfortability is very big factor when it comes to dentistry. A lot of people have fears & r uncomfortable even walking in the door. So, making your patients feel comfortable is extremely important in this line of work. And Dr. Houy made u as comfortable as possible. Unfortunately Dr. Houy retired. So, I had to go w/ the other dentist. Dr. Gaga Sandu. At first I didn't get any bad vibes. Was he fast & tried to rush u out...YES! But, that was it (atp). Eventually, I had to get major dental surgery! Something that not only terrified me. But, I didn't know much about after care. I was supposed to get the surgery @ AGH & then return to Dr. Gaga Sandu after. Not only did Dr. Sandu cancel appointments w/o notifying me b4 showing up (prior to surgery). He also blatantly LIED TO ME, GASLIT me into thinking the hospitals ER offered something they didn't, & then when MISCOMMUNICATION was happening he refused to take ANY ACCOUNTABILITY & made me out to be some kinda incompetent fool!!!! I was able to get an Emergency appointment (no thanks to Dr. Sandu) & the HOSPITAL whom was ONLY SUPPOSED TO EXTRACT gave me an aftercare paper & told me to call my dentist for a follow up. Which...MADE SENSE! He is in fact my normal dentist that LITERALLY made a "plan" as far as my teeth & what needs done. So, almost a wk later they squeeze me in between appointments. This appointment was an "adjustment" & to make sure there was no infection. Which also....made sense considering it was a MAJOR DENTAL SURGERY & I needed to know the next step! I go in for my appointment & this "dentist" DR. Gaga SANDU says to me, "y r u here". I repeat what the appointment is for. ATP he is looking at me confused. Did NOTHING, told me NOTHING except "this was the hospitals responsibility but sometimes they're lazy & tell u go to the desntist". Like excuse me sir...U R THE DENTIST & this IS INFACT YOUR RESPONSIBILITY FOR AFTERCARE! Get this, I even had to ASK him how I'm even healing! lol!!!!! THIS GUY...DR. GAGA SANDU IS A JOKE!!!! And doesn't have a CARE in the world about his PATIENTS! He sees a money sign $$$ walk in the door instead of a person. He doesn't know it yet but, he has not only lost me as a patient but, MY ENTIRE FAMILY! Which is not 1 but, 6 patients!
