I also feel compelled to write a review about Dr Hirsch. I originally chose him because he's experienced with Chinese herbal medicines, which a former vet in a different state used and saved my dog's health year ago. However, I was disappointed with Dr. Hirsch for a number of reasons. I must admit he was great speaking about topics for alternative healing, such as acupuncture and herbal medicine for animals. When it came to my dog it was another story. recently moved to the area and chose Dr. Hirsch to bring my 11 year old dog for his annual exam and shots. Dr. Hirsch manhandled my dog as if he was a slab of meat, not a living and breathing canine. He never once looked at my dog's face or tried to connect with him. My dog might as well have been an inanimate object. He jabbed the needle in so hard my dog yelped in pain, and Dr. Hirsch didn't seem to even notice. And their prices! I was told by Dr. Hirsch my dog had Lymes disease and he needed a round of antibiotics, which was fine. However, my vet bill that day was $600! My previous vet in PA charged $300 for an annual visit, and although Lyme's test and meds couldn't raise the price that much, the $300 increase was because their price on each thing was so much higher than my previous vet. There it was in black & white on the invoice. Their prices are ridiculously high. My other issue with this place is the coldness of the staff. My pup has been on thyroid meds for 6 years, and the vets dole out the pills in 2 month supplies. The staff insist I pick up only between 10am-12pm or 2pm-4pm. I actually work for a living and can't pop over in the middle of the day. I pre-order the meds over the phone so I'm just stopping in to pick up. They often behave as if I'm interrupting their day, when I'm actually the reason they have a job. Now it's time for another annual visit for my dog, and I'm searching for a new vet. read more

A cold individual who should not be working with animals. I took my dog there when he was younger to have a small nib off skin removed from his head, at the top near his ear where the average person would pet him. He is very active and it tended to get hit and bleed often. I figured the best solution would be to simply have it looked at and removed. After waiting a while in the exam room, Hirsch walks in such a chilling manner, I was shocked. He is just like a Nazi henchman. No emotion, blank, cold. He did not acknowledge the dog whatsoever, and barely acknowledged me. So I give my dog to him and he takes him back. After a few minutes, he is back in my hands. I look at the spot and notice it looks like a little bit of the nib is still there, but think to myself that it is probably excess tissue from the procedue that will fall off. As I walk outside, I stop and look at it in the sun. The doctor missed. he missed the spot with his hot poker and removed tissue from next to the nib, but not the nib itself. I drove home and contemplated what to do. I called them back and told them he missed, and they said to bring him back. My wife brought the dog back because I was so angry and they try again. They tell my wife that the dog was squirming too much and caused them to have trouble with the procedure. There are about 10 things I can think of that would have solved that issue, none of which they executed. My wife arrives home with him and now he has several staples in his head! When i said small nib to be removed, imagine your typically tiny skin tag. I mean small. We wait the required time for the staples to be removed, and that is when I got a real impression of what they did to my dog. The spot promptly opened up and bled, and revealed they removed about 3/4 of a dime-sized area of tissue and hair. It healed to be a dark spot in the same size of bare skin, a bit lower than the surrounding tissue. No hair will ever grow there, he was and is scarred for life. I reported this to my mother, who has owned horses since the 70's. She asks me which vet at Parkway Vets did this and once I told her, she relayed a story where years ago Hirsch worked for another area vet (who has since passed). Hirsch was sent to handle a house call for one of my parents' horses and long story short, he actually hurt the horse and made a bad situation MUCH worse. Her assessment of this guy from years ago is the EXACT feeling I had about him. It is a shame because the practice has some good people working there, but because he is a principal to the operation, I do not recommend anyone patronizing Parkway Vets. Go see Dr. Susan Rew in Galloway - she is superior in every way. read more

I would like to thank Dr. Hirsch for taking such WONDERFUL CARE of my dogs over the past 20 years. Dr. Hirsch is one of the most compassionate vet's I have ever dealt with. I attribute the health of all of my pets to the outstanding care they have received. I came to yelp to write this review after a recent vet visit and I am VERY SURPRISED to see negative reviews - wow! Hard to believe! Dr. Hirsch has treated one of my pets for Lymphosarcoma, and our Buddy had incredible quality of life due to the treatment he received from Dr. Hirsch. I have been to both vet offices over the years that Dr. Hirsch has, and I have always found the staff to be kind, welcoming, and compassionate. I went to dr. Hirsch with my cat Lucky for chiropractic treatment. After spending almost $1000. my Lucky died 17 days, after Hirsch gave him shot of CONVINIA. This is a fair warning about those two. Dr. David Hirsch is a phenomenal veterinarian, who has nothing but the best interest of the animal in mind when it comes to taking care of them. He is incredibly thorough, very concerning, he takes his time with the humans to be sure to have a complete understanding of what a potential problem could be. He is certified with Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture. He is wonderful. My family has been seeing Dr. Hirsch for the last 20 years with our dogs. Recently, while having my own, I made Dr. Hirsch my dogs primary physician and with his help, guidance and expertise we were able to add 3 years and 3 months of healthy, high-quality life to my dogs life after being diagnosed with Lymphoma. He not only treats me and my family right, but he treats all of his patients extremely well. I highly recommend Dr. Hirsch to anyone looking for the best veterinary care for their furr-babies. He is incredibly knowledgeable and his love for animals shines bright. I have nothing but excellent things to say about Dr. Hirsch and the entire practice at Parkway Veterinary Hospital. I am really sorry for the other reviewer's story, however, I must entirely disagree with him. Completely. Dr David Hirsch has been excellent and I wouldn't trust my dog with any other vet. My first visit, two years ago, came about because one afternoon I called my rescued cockapoo to go for a walk and he just sat there staring at me. I immediately knew something wasn't right and walked back. He couldn't get up from the sitting position. When I raised his hips he went right back down. I was in a panic, having recently moved to the beach and didn't have an established relationship with a vet yet. When I put my dog down on the grass, he dragged his back legs behind him and looked like a frog from the waist down.I was fighting tears when I called at four pm and told the receptionist I had an emergency and explained what was happening. I was told to bring my dog right over. To make a long story much shorter I was told my dog had ruptured a disc and in his back and would be a prime case for surgery. It was suggested to me by another that I should think of quality of life issues. I kept stating that is my dog from the waist up. I will get him wheels on the back if I have to and it would be a miracle if we again managed to walk Sunset Lake. Then I heard of Dr. Hirsch and made an appt. to see him. We discussed options and we settled for steroid treatment and acupuncture. Dr. Hirsch was so patient with him and also with me. he showed my how to express urine, facilitate bowel movements, meeting with me twice a week for therapy which I continued at home. No one ever thought my sweet dog would ever walk again, except me and Dr. Hirsch. I did physical therapy and within a few months I was walking my dog at Sunset Lake again. I had my miracle, and Dr. David Hirsch is one of my heroes. He was and still is the best vet I have interacted with, for his interest, his compassion, his knowledge and his willingness to go the extra mile for an animal.
