In July 2022, I voluntarily admitted myself to the David Lawrence Center because I needed help. I was told I'd be out in 72 hours, but they ended up keeping me for 10 days. My mom had to get a public defender to get me out, so my heart breaks for the ones who weren't as "lucky" as I was and are still in there being held against their own will. Imagine being depressed and wanting to get help, so you admit yourself, just for them to hold you against your will after 72 hours? I didn't think it could get worse in that situation, but I was sadly mistaken. For the first 3 days, I wasn't seen by a doctor at all and was told he doesn't work weekends. After checking in, they took all my belongings, including a prescription from my purse. That particular medication is known to cause seizures if it's stopped abruptly, and yet they still wouldn't give it to me until I saw the doctor. The negligence, abuse, and malpractice were unlike anything I've ever experienced or seen before, especially considering I came there SEEKING HELP. Some of the staff there were extremely aggressive and violent, and should be starring in horror movies instead of working with patients. If someone from the outside were to observe how some of the staff treated us, they'd have to question those employees' intentions. They're sick in the head for treating us the way they did and need to be evaluated themselves. By the time I was finally discharged, I was barely functioning. I felt like the equivalent of a "walking vegetable" because of all the different medications they had me on. My mom had to become my full-time caregiver for 3 months, and I was on FMLA from my government job while she nursed me back to health. Shortly after being discharged, I got brain scans done at the Amen Clinic to try to get answers as to why I was in such a vegetative state, which showed I had a traumatic brain injury. HOW HAS THIS PLACE NOT BEEN INVESTIGATED BY THE GOVERNMENT DESPITE ALL THE COMPLAINTS? That is the real question! It's been 3 years since I left David Lawrence Center, and I still struggle with PTSD from the trauma I experienced there. It devastates me how much abuse goes on in psychiatric hospitals. This kind of mistreatment needs to stop! No one should have to endure what I and so many others did. I'm praying for the patients who are possibly still trapped in that system today is devastating, and I wish I could've done more for them when I still had a chance. read more

I asked for a method to reach my son's doctor. I was told by the front desk and there was no way to reach them. I said there must be in the front desk staff that I could speak to his supervisor. I asked him for her title. He said he did not know what she was the supervisor I asked for his position. He said he did not know what his position was either. If this is a facility dealing with mental health patients, and this is the type of conversations they have with their patience. I totally understand where they would be confused and not know what to do. It's a good thing. I am not the patient but my son is, and I can maneuver these shenanigans. But it does not reflect well on the center itself, and I'm not sure I would recommend it. read more

I can honestly speak from experience also through visiting and witnessing what they do for people and what they have done for my son if-not for them and the help that they have given my son, more than once , he would not be alive today. The sacrifices that all of the employees that work at the David Lawrence center give to the people that they help and serve is more than anybody could ever ask for when trying to save their loved one. I will forever be thankful and grateful for the love and mercy and through God's grace and people who care and can help others to the David Lawrence Center and all of the programs, the counseling and the support that everyone has given to my son. Horrible excuse for a mental health center. They use any excuse to admit people against their will, and actually provide zero treatment (unless you consider music bingo a treatment ) other than overmedicating the residents. The staff is extremely unprofessional, and the facility is extremely unsanitary. Despite claiming to be affiliated with the government and also taking in huge sums of donations the facility has not been kept to code and has broken furnishings. The residents are isolated from their families and I dare say it does more harm than good. read more

Walking into this so-called "medical facility" felt less like entering a hospital and more like stepping into a dystopian horror movie where the budget for basic human decency was cut years ago. The air smelled like expired disinfectant and broken dreams. The waiting room chairs, if you can even call them that, were so uncomfortable they could be used as instruments of medieval torture. The staff? Oh, where do I begin? The receptionist looked like she had been summoned from the depths of hell itself, chewing gum like it was her last source of sustenance while glaring at me as though my mere presence was an insult to her very existence. I'm pretty sure the nurse was a sleep-deprived zombie -- her eyes were half-open, her scrubs looked like they hadn't seen a washing machine since the Renaissance, and she stabbed my arm with the IV like she was practicing for a role in a slasher film. The doctor finally appeared after what felt like an eternity - long enough for me to consider writing my will in the notes app on my phone -- and he had all the charisma of a damp sponge. He mumbled something about "probably just a virus" without even looking at me, then prescribed me a medication that I later found out I was severely allergic to. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if he got his medical degree from a cereal box. *** And let's not even talk about the bathrooms. Oh no. They were a crime scene. I have seen cleaner gas station restrooms in the middle of nowhere. There was a suspicious brown stain on the wall (don't ask me what it was -- I didn't want to investigate), and the sink looked like it was auditioning for a role in a horror movie titled The Mold Awakens. When I finally escaped this house of medical horrors, I felt like a survivor of some unspeakable tragedy. I half-expected to see a news crew outside interviewing other escapees about the horrors within. In conclusion: If you're considering going here, don't. Run. Sprint. Flee to the ends of the Earth. I'd trust a YouTube tutorial on "DIY surgery" before I ever set foot in this wretched establishment again. Negative 1 billion stars. And I'm still looking for a bank that will let me borrow more. Was Baker acted at 17 last year and sent here, horrible experience. The doctor I saw was rude and I felt very uncomfortable. They also speed ran through us kids to run to the adults. I have severe sensory issues and ARFID (I'm autistic) I had to beg them to get me some plain food (that they had) so I wouldn't starve. At one point even though I had made it clear that I literally couldn't eat the food given to me and I was starving. I begged one of the staff watching us for anything to eat "even a banana or something" my exact words. She said "no sorry don't have any of that!" not even 5 minutes later she pulled out a banana and ate it in front of me while I was sobbing from how hungry I was and the other kids were comforting me. read more

Total incompetence from office to employees. I submitted a negative consumer experience last month because of 7 months of terrible advise, treatment and counsel. Which resulted in a non insurance paid $5500 invoice for a procedure that they instruct me to have. Now they just submitted a new past invoice for over $300 which is totally inaccurate and not valid. Stay away from this place if you can! They brain wash you and mind control you into believing they are there to help you, but at the end of the day you are just another number in the revolving door. They reel you in with hopes and dreams and fail to review financial details. But if you are aware enough to ask for details and speak up to advocate for yourself they will continue to push you off or make you seem as if you are being difficult when asking for that type of information(detailed statements, explanations, receipts, etc). I was put on a behavior contract because I was forced to have to ask for my receipts when making payments and repeatedly being told they could not provide me with that information even though they had literally just ran my credit card. One day after many frustrating attempts to obtain proof of payment for my records, I was called into the supervisors office to be told I was being "out of line, difficult and argumentative and they were putting me on a 30 day behavior contract!!! Even though my own counselor who was also present in the room said herself she couldn't blame me for wanting receipts for my records, that she always wants proof of payment as well!!! And this bullshit contract of course went to the Judge to see, which will be held against me.....and of course she's going to take the word of the supervisor, against mine. They convince you open up and share your personal life with them telling you they are judgement free and only trying to help.....they make you believe they are not looking to cause you further trouble and that honesty is the best policy.....as long as you are honest they will always work with you and look for ways to help you......I have major trust issues from trauma as it is and it is hard for me to open up to people......after them getting mad I wasn't opening up to them right away and again being labeled as "difficult" I felt pressured to share things with them I was not comfortable doing. And then as soon as I finally decided to open up, a lot of what I shared would be thrown back in my face and spun to be used against me. Things I shared in confidence would be analyzed and used to form unfair and stereotypical conclusions so they could make wrongful judgement, accusations and put negative labels on me. The staff is overworked and underpaid and given an extremely large caseload per one counselor, which reflects on their attitudes and treatment of people. They only look out for and help their favorites. A few people they will go above and beyond for while the rest of us are basically told to figure it out on our on and "refer to our binder" for outside resources when we need assistance. I could go on and on and on with many more examples of fuc**d up situations and thing that go on at that place. I couldn't get out of there quick enough. I would never refer or recommend anyone to go there!!!!! They will suck you in and then you will be over your head and stuck in a shi**y position, owing them unexpected amounts of money or back in a worse situation then where you started. The day shift workers were nice and kind, they showed attention and care to the children who were hurting. Unlike the night shift workers, who were ignorant and only there for a check. I told them , i was unable to take my medicine at night, because it was an AM med. I told them i would be sick. They said "oh it should be fine just take them, you have to take them in order to leave". I knew i was going to get sick. I wake up in the middle of the night throwing up, they didnt have any concern. i have no respect to this facility. or their workers, outlines, and motives. I hope it has gotten somewhat better. It feels more like a jail, than a mental health facility. The emotional damage that comes with it afterwards is harrowing. Waste of $$ waste of resources waste of a 3 days. My rating is actually a zero star. This is a half-baked enterprise or worse. I was abducted by the police two times, in Collier County. I might as well have been in Russia, as my civil rights weren't acknowledged. One way they get patients is to pick them up off the streets by police. I won't ever drive in Collier County again. A psychiatrist at DLC told me if I showed up again he'd put me into a state mental home for life. So you think I'm some social headache? I'm not, I was 76 years old at a time when my husband was dying of dementia. Every single person, whether police or the DLC "psychiatrists", showed no compassion for my sadness. They wrote that I "hurt other people and also hurts herself. She will go on to hurt people again quite soon". I am a Buddhist and a moral person. They never checked my body to see if I hurt myself. They were so busy "being eminent psychiatrists in Naples" that their world narrowed to a claustrophobic and quite stupid place. read more

My daughter, who is a minor, was treated like an animal. She was admitted in the middle of the night and had to sleep on the floor; she started her period in the facility and they made her stay in spoiled pants for 12 + hours, she had to beg them for a change of clothes. The treatment for someone who needed help was inhumane. The facility is disgusting. She left more traumatized. I am heartbroken that she was treated so poorly at a facility that is supposed to help. I was told I would be denied visitation if I wore shorts or any revealing clothes, they allowed men in wearing shorts. This is sad that this is Collier County's mental health facility. read more

I wish I could put negative stars. There is way to much to say and I don't even know where to start with this place. First I woke up to a male in my room, In which I'm a female. Inappropriate sexual comments made by clients. Another male trying to walk in my room, in which he commented "I went to jail for fuck*** woman without consent". Clients walking around with there hands in there pants. Bathrooms in which you can use female or male and no one is watching who goes in which. Bowel movements smeared across the wall in the bathroom. I tried to tell a staff member about my safety concern and they just ignored it. I asked for crackers 5 hours after I was suppose to get my medication that I take every morning and the lady rolled her eyes at me. Meanwhile it took 6 hours to get my morning medication.... Vital signs taken once at 6am. "Therapy" on weekends includes club/inappropriate music outside for 30 mins. This place is a prison with NO security. The mednurse told me the organization wanted me to die and that my death would be reported to my family. Im not sure what they would put in my food but my food was constantly spiked. One of the techs told me there was poison in my food one day. I would react badly to whatever they put in my food, (trouble breathing, rapid heart rate) so the staff would tell me I was having a heart attack. They also played this weird audio that sounded like protesting was happening outside. The staff would tell me to get fashion ready and get ready to speak to the reporters outside only for there to be no one outside. This place is cruel and evil. Stay far, far away. read more

I have been dealing with the mental health system for about 35 years. I suffer from depression and severe anxiety. I have an established diagnosis and have very successfully been treated with 20mg of fluoxetine (Prozac). For those of you that don't know, this is a very low dose. The David Lawrence Center is pure bureaucracy. Please don't accept this place and their practices as the status-quo for mental health treatment. DLC and places like this can do you more harm than good. There are ways you can get real help. If you go somewhere for help and they tell you you can't see a doctor YOU ARE IN THE WRONG PLACE! I had lost my health insurance several months ago. I had to go off my medication because I couldn't afford a doctor's visit. I had been doing OK for a while, then I started to have really bad episodes of anxiety again. I was told that David Lawrence centers had alternative payment arrangements available. I called and asked to talk to someone about alternative financing. They connected me to the financing office which went directly to an answering machine. I briefly explained I did not have insurance and that I would like to see if there would be a problem with them billing me for their services after the fact. I did not ask for a discount. I left my name and phone number, repeated twice at the end of the message... No returned phone call. This exact thing happened twice 3 weeks later... No returned phone call. Some time went by and I acquired health insurance. Now, they were suddenly available to talk! What happened next took place all on the same day. I was in the throes of an anxiety attack and just trying to get back on my medication as soon as possible. I called DLC. On the phone they told me I needed to be evaluated. (This is untrue, I already had a diagnosis and had been successfully prescribed medication.) So, I went there to get an evaluation. At the office they stuck a clipboard in my hand. In the state of mind I was in I would have had trouble tying my shoes...Somehow, I filled everything out. They told me there was no available appointment for a month. They told me they couldn't even let me schedule an appointment because it was a "walk in" clinic and I needed to "walk in" to schedule the appointment. Also, I would not be able to schedule an appointment because I had just filled the paperwork out that day, so I would have to come back on Monday just to do that. I am not kidding about this!...I am not leaving anything out! I even asked for clarification...This is their policy!!! I had heard that in the seedier parts of some cities like New York and Las Vegas they have what are known as "clip-joints". A cabbie will pick up a man at the airport and say: "Hey, if you need a little female company, I know a place!". When the guy gets there, he has to pay to go into a room, maybe with a bad stripper or something. Then they tell him: "for an extra 50 bucks you can go into that room over there... that's the place you really want to be!". The same thing happens repeatedly, charging the "client" another 50 bucks to enter every new room until he gets frustrated and leaves. Never getting what he came there for. This is what places like DLC are... clip joints! First, they will tell you you need an evaluation...then you need to see a practitioner for your meds, a "therapist" twice a month and bloodwork to make sure there isn't a physical cause. All along the way they get to charge you and your insurance thousands of dollars. And you never get what you want... You never get any better. After I left DLC I went to Collier Urgent Care where they flat-out refused to treat me; Which is a whole other screwed-up story. By this time, I was a complete mess... I called my General Practitioner's office and the nurse there told me to go to the Emergency Room. When I got to the ER there was an ambulance there unloading someone who probably had a heart attack or was in a car accident or something. My conscience got to me... I didn't want to take resources from people in life-or-death situations. So, I walked back to my car and tried to compose myself. How many of the suicides in the area are from people who didn't get their phone calls returned?, or were waiting for a doctor?, or were denied their medication? I am not suicidal, but my God, what if I were? After a while I found a place called "ER Quick Care" on my phone. I called and they said they would help me. Everyone there was rational and kind. I walked out half an hour later with a six-month prescription for my medication. The doctor there was pretty baffled as to why no one would help me. A few days later I was my happy, healthy self again. My strong advice is to see your GP for your meds. Use a good urgent care in an emergency. if you need to talk to someone, find a support group. There you can find the help from people who have made mistakes in their treatment and can prevent you from doing the same. read more

I seen a psychiatrist for a year here. He told me ADHD isn't real, and it's just a cover up diagnosis for depression. Have been baker acted multiple times, and it's horrendous. They will hold you for however long it takes to get you to leave addicted to some medication. I was told they would keep filing for extra reviews on me until I agreed to take their pills. They harassed me into becoming addicted to sertraline 200mg and abilify 30 mg. I weigh 100 pounds. They just want people addicted to pills so they can stay making money. It's horrendous. I got sent in there against my will for opiate withdrawal, but honestly might've rather spent the week in a f**kin jail cell by myself. F**k David Lawrence center, and everything that they do there!! Everyone that was a patient there was crying to go home but no help from anyone besides for some reason "taking vitals" every time an outburst happens. And the constant calling for people to get their "meds" Screw you DLC. Screw you royally, hope no one has to suffer here again but I'm sad to say I know many will. read more

Filing complaints with Joint Commission, Florida State Attorney General's Office and DCF, Department of children and families. Inadequate staff providers, dangerously lax in knowledge of medications. Ones well being is NOT a priority. Will contact Collier County Board of Commissioners. Private donors need to be updated on where their donations are being used. The public must know that a "murderer" was evaluated at this facility and released to St Matthew's House. But- the public doesn't know the truth. David Lawrence evaluated this person and released him to go into population. IF- their evaluation was considered a stay to observe, the woman sleeping in her car next to St Matthew's House would still be alive. David Lawrence made a huge mistake, so is covering up their negligence and inadequacy. This murdered woman was some one's mother, sister, experiencing some hard times, but no one protected her from a seriously mentally ill person who murdered her for no reason. David Lawrence Center could've prevented this tragedy if their staff was competent to evaluate professionally. read more

my bf tried to get in today for fetanyl detox, and while his insurance was accepted he was denied admittance and told he would need to come down and plead his case, bc 2yrs ago he AMA'd. he AMA'd 2yrs ago bc he was suffering from an excruciating ear infection. after 3 days of complaining to medical staff, and being told they would not take him to the hospital; he left and walked there himself. he stufferled permanent hearing loss from this ear infection bc Davis Lawrence center denied him medical help and a second opinion essentially. so today, while experiencing severe withdrawals they denied to accept him unless he came in and "plead his case". we live 2 hours away, and the options for opiate detox on the west coast of Florida are quite limited. It makes no sense for a facility to deny a person whos insurance is accepted, simply bc of an issue like that. It makes me question the morals and ethics of the woman who owns the facility and makes these decisions. Honestly I think They have blood on their hands for turning away someone who is desperately in need of help. I was forced against my free will. They emotionally abuse you in there. You see a doctor once a day for 10 minutes and that's it. 20+ are jammed in one room with chaos. You can't even hear the tv because of 20+ talking. There's no therapists. They care about insurance and $$$. They told me many times I would get to leave and then lie and tell me never mind and watch me cry. I was in there for a total of 11 days. I was unable to work and now I'm financially in debt. Night staff are a couple of angry goons that are abusive to patients. Only saw doctor one time in 7 days. Slept on blow up mattress. Went outside on fake grass in enclosure once day for 15 minutes if not by door at exact time then tough. Treated like incompetent 8 year old throughout. There was no treatment, 90% of staff made the week as miserable as humanly possible, only got out by court decree when realized no reason for me to be there in first place. David Lawrence Center is an outstanding facility. We have been treated with compassion and professionalism every step of the way. Reception personnel in all buildings have been caring & kind. The assessment & intake personnel have been thorough and efficient. The doctor and therapist we've been assigned are highly competent and are excellent treatment providers, top of the line. From our experience, David Lawrence Center is extraordinarily well-run. This Center is providing much needed services to a highly-challenged segment of the population, and it is doing it brilliantly. I recommend against using this company. I went for an assessment on my own accord and paid myself. The final report issued had many errors that they refused to correct. The report is unusable in it's current form that is flawed. I would not be able to treat people like this; giving a false assessment and not correcting it after the errors were pointed out. I had been a client at DLC for over 8 years. In that time while I had some good experiences, my experiences were mainly awful. The turn over for doctors is insane and the CSU aims more at drugging clients than actually providing services to help them. I went through 4 inaccurate diagnosis while a client there. I was falsely diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder, Borderline Personality, Bipolar Disorder, and Schizoaffective Disorder. With all these inaccurate diagnosis this led to improper medications and at one point I was severely overmedicated to the point of not being able to function. During this time I was also put on a combination of medications that I later found out was a dangerous combination by my Neurologist. This combination caused me to develop a PERMANENT condition that causes my eyes to involuntarily close making me blind for hours at a time. There is NO cure for this condition and I was not informed while being on these medications that there was even a risk. When it was brought to my attention I immediately brought it up to several staff members and requested to be taken off immediately however this was not met with anything other than resistance. They flat out denied that it was even possible and refused to help. I have now been free from the grasps of DLC for almost 6 months and I am med free. My only diagnosis is PTSD which I am treating with therapy. I NEVER required medication in the first place and I honestly wish I had a choice. The doctors make you feel like if you don't do what they say then they won't help you. The only good person there was Neil an RN, but sadly he left. I advise anyone seeking help for any mental health issues to STAY AWAY! You're better off with Salus Care or Park Royal. I pay out of pocket for therapy because the only place covered in Naples is DLC and I will NEVER give them my business again. They have truly DESTROYED MY LIFE! read more
