This is only a review of my experience. I presented to Mr. Cope for a first-time-ever couples counseling session. We went to Mr. Cope because my significant other sees him. Huge mistake. The only thing I can compare the session to would be having couples counseling with one of my significant other's friends. Actually, I think my s.o's friends would make more of an attempt to be unbiased. Mr. Cope made no effort to get to know me, my perspective, where I was coming from, who i am, etc. He reiterated the frustrations that my s.o. had spoken about privately with him and asserted them not as my s.o's interpretations of what was going on but as fact, and ultimately came off like he was pointing the finger. That was neither constructive nor helpful- we went to therapy because we are already quite good at finger pointing on our own. Furthermore, Mr. Cope, without getting to know my personality, feeling me out, or anything else, made a number of unprofessional "jokes" that made me uncomfortable. I was surprised that someone who works in this profession would not realize the importance of connecting with a person and learning their personality before jumping into jokes that ride the line between acceptable and not. My s.o. and I followed his advice and took a full day to let us absorb what was said in session. We went on to have a lovely rest of the night but the next day, once everything was "absorbed", it was like a grenade was set off between my s.o. and I. We had to then wade through what were words put in our mouths during session versus what was actually the truth between us. We are in worse shape for having tried counseling here. This is not to say that Mr. Cope was completely wrong. Some of his advice was sound and on point. My point is that a lot of it wasn't helpful, wasn't correct about us as individuals or what we are like in our relationship, and much of the session was a lecture. It seemed to me that Mr. Cope was unable to be an unbiased participant in the session because he already knew a lot about my s.o's perspective. I will not be returning.

Every single session felt disconnected, as if he were playing a game on his computer and barely paying attention. I concluded that his mind has been warped by years of hearing heartbreaking stories on a daily basis. However, accounting for that, you would think that he of all people would know that not everyone is as comfortable with the traditional therapeutic process as he is. I challenged him on some of these points, especially after he said I wasn't "complying" with the process. (Ridiculously controlling language--sounds like judge with no power checks) I pressed him on the issue of "compliance" and told him that I have participated in this process for years on end and it has NEVER worked. Meaning I have done this over and over and nothing has improved even once. I asked him "How many times do you have to do the same exact thing and fail until you realize that it simply doesn't work, and that a different approach needs to be tried?" I added "Tell me what you think counts as 'compliance'--and i'll tell you if I've tried that." He quickly and rudely refused to answer this out of pride. He clearly knew he was backed into a corner, but he was so intellectually dishonest that he refused to elaborate on his accusations. These reviews speak for themselves, but this should be added: He isn't a stupid man, but anybody looking for a kind-hearted, understanding, professional, attentive, patient, humble therapist should turn the other way, and spare themselves months of wasted time and money.

He is very attentive and frequently checks in with patients. I also feel strongly that Dr. Fayer is the ideal choice for struggling patients who need to determine what medication(s) are best for treatment and laying the foundations for establishing a healthy lifestyle, balanced mood, and high self esteem. Dr. Fayer will help you tremendously, but you have to do the work yourself, which he'll masterfully guide you through. He genuinely cares very much about his patients' welfare, feelings, success, and the integrity of his craft. To which I responded yes and left after asking the women at the desk if I needed to do anything else. I show up this week at the scheduled time and I'm told by the women at the desk he will be in shortly. I waited over 35 minutes before telling them to call him. I am then told he never put me down for an appointment... the level of incompetence is only rivaled by how uncomfortable I feel that I sat there pouring my heart out, only to now have to begin my search for another therapist. They should know how hard it is for people to seek help and this has been a very discouraging experience for me and a waste of time and money. I wish Jonathan all the best and I hope he works on his scheduling for his future patients.
