In addition to her name being misspelled on the casket plaque, a larger issue which consterned mourners was the unacceptable embalming and cosmetic treatment of the remains. Her hair and facial features didn't resemble the reference photos in the least, as if there was little attempt to match the image of the dead to the living. Of course, funereal preparation of corpses is known to be an art and not a science, but there was little art on display -- certainly nothing worth the fee paid for Branch Funeral Home's service.

They made a very challenging time less painful and we were all able to truly celebrate the life of our father, husband, uncle, mentor and friend. The mass at the Church and 45 minute processional to the cemetery was handled with solemnity and precision. We felt we were guided gently through the process without being rushed or pushed. There was reason to be pushed because of the inclement weather and the funeral following behind us at the church. However, we were shielded from all of those concerns. The staff also collected all of the planters, flowers, pictures and mementos together so that we only needed to pick them, as well as thank you notes up the following day. Calverton even offers a "golf cart" assist for individuals not able to safely walk deep into some of these grave areas to visit their loved ones. Just stop by the main administrative offices on your way in and let them know the grave you are headed to, and then drive to that grave. They will meet you there with a golf cart that can drive between the rows and bring you straight to your loved one's grave. Hugely helpful for anyone not able to safely walk on the grass, which is sometimes uneven, slippery, or just too far into the area. From the staff in the office to the individual who last met us with the golf cart (shout out to Matthew!), everyone has been kind, sensitive, and supportive.

He was told that since they were not married, NYS would not allow them to provide services and that we would have to find a relative to sign off on the paperwork. His partner had no living relatives. we went to another funeral home who told us if we could provide a bill or bank statement with both their names on it they could assist. They are considered domestic partners. My friend called them and said they had a bank statement with both names on it and they still refused to help. so much for loving and caring service. Should we have propped the body in a corner of his home? They don't value extended families there. As far as their claim about NYS policies. They had a domestic partnership which allows the partner to request cremation. Another funeral home was glad to provide assistance. You look empty most of the time it's amazing you are willing to turn away business. Shame on you for making it harder on a man grieving over the loss of his partner.

He went to Roma and was very pleased and pleasantly surprised by how much of the process they take care of. We were going to bury my Mom but found out that the plot was full, but they could fit in ashes so we opted for cremation. They will take care of notifying the SSA, order certified Death Certificates, contact the Medical Examiner and arrange for transporting the body and then the remains. I know that this is all standard but it's not something we all do on a regular basis. So it was comforting to walk in and have them be so professional and so accommodating. Bottom Line: if you need the service they are great.
