When we moved into our house 24 years ago, Davis & Davis was servicing the existing AC and heating units. We stayed with them ever since and we're so glad we did. Every time we had an issue with our HVAC (which isn't often), technicians arrived promptly, diagnosed the problem and implemented lasting solutions. When the existing AC and furnace reached the end of their natural lives, they replaced them for us and the A/C unit performed well for 19 years and the furnace is still going strong. Very disappointed long time customer. Less than a week after I renewed service contract and had maintenance my HVAC, I had an issue. I called on a Sunday and talked to answering service three times and they assured someone would call. My problem simple and complex but didn't require a visit, I just needed to ask a question to rule something out but they couldn't be bothered and were quite rue about it the next day. I'm not surprised - it's sort the way of the (non) service industry today and especially in this area with its incredible wealth and overpopulated area - there's always more customers so there is not much effort to keep customers or even treat very long term customers with respect. In any case, I'm loyal but when I'm mistreated m, I'll shift my loyalty. I know D&D doesn't care. I unfortunately have a contract for another with them but I'll be calling others as my AC unit is quite and I know it needs to be replaced in next few years and I need a reliable HVAC company. If you are looking for service, I recommend looking elsewhere. read more

My furnace was short cycling (running fine, but only briefly) - Melvin came and assessed, diagnosed and fixed it quickly, as well as giving helpful suggestions for the future. Another company had suggested very expensive repair or super expensive replacement, but Melvin got it running normally for a reasonable service fee. Davis & Davis is great. read more

For a furnace Davis & Davis installed and still under warranty - two critical parts proved defective and the furnace stopped working. Two team members installed the last of two parts and charged $1700 for labor (flat fee, not hourly) and left my house. That was last night. In the middle of the night, the furnace stopped working on the coldest night of the year - 16 degrees. It was freezing in my house. I called their number at 4 am and was told I had to wait for a call back until 7:30 am. Of course I'm unable to sleep and worried about having no heat for days and being charged even more fees while this problem continued. Mind you, I have a service contract and should get priority. At 7 am the condescending and dismissive dispatcher told me that maybe they could come between 8 and 10 and when I expressed my shock for having to wait in the freezing cold that long he asked if I wanted them not to come at all and said there was no "magic helicopter" to help me. When the technician arrived, he said his colleague failed to turn on part of the system and that led to the furnace automatically shutting off to avoid a flood that was not even happening. Did the company call me to offer an apology for treating me so rudely, ruining my night, ruining my day, or offer to discount their service fee for the extreme inconvenience they caused me? I was a longtime customer but decided to stop using them after they kept me waiting beyond their three hour window and didn't have the courtesy to call and tell me they were running late. The last time a service person stopped by he was very short with me, saying nothing at all about the inspection, and shoved his electronic pad at me asking for payment. The entire conversation was very condescending/rude, not sure if he was playing games or being a wise ass but he was very unprofessional and off putting. It took them 3 visits to fix something that could have easily been fixed by another company in 1 visit (a leak in the system that was easily accessible). The additional 2 visits cost me an extra $600 (on top of the $870 it took to finally fix the problem). They told me that they expect visits to take about 15 minutes. If the problem isn't fixed by then, then they leave and will say you need to schedule another appointment on another day. They were not responsive, and I had to repeatedly call them to get them to come out again to actually fix the problem. So I was without AC for a week, when it was 85-90 degrees outside, just trying to get a hold of them to come back and finish the job. I will definitely try another company next time I need any service or repairs. read more

Set an appointment with this co. 5+ weeks ago, informing them that we have 2 units, one in utility room the other in a crawlspace. They should have already known this since one of their techs serviced both units last year. The tech they sent this year said that he "needed permission" from co. to service crawlspace unit...Really? I was shocked, because it wasn't a problem last year. Also, they should have mentioned this when I scheduled the appointment. Oh, btw, weeks ago they gave a window of 8 am - noon for the appointment, and since it had been set so long long ago, I actually confirmed the appointment the day before they were to be here. Nonetheless, the tech showed up at 1:45 pm. While the owner called to make nice an hour or so later, I found his explanation unsatisfactory. He told me that some of his workers are older and weigh 300 lbs. and can't fit into crawlspace. However, the guy that they sent wasn't in eiither of those categories...guess he just didn't want to get dirty. Even though inapplicable to our situation, the owner advised me that they don't service attic units either, unless they installed them there. Funny, last year when they sent Cesar to service our units, he didn't complain about the crawlspace and completed work on both units. Last year they were great, this year EPIC FAIL! read more

We decided to replace our nearly 20-year old central air before it died in the heat. Davis & Davis gave us the best proposal (of 3). They were very professional, both about the bid and the installation. Chris (the inside man) and Cody (the outside man) were on time, efficient, and willing to explain to a curious homeowner what they were doing. Chris walked me through what I needed to do to register the new system and to get the appropriate permits. What I particularly liked was that they did not try to "upsell" me (proposing unnecessary add-ons) at any point. So far the system is working well. The installation looks a lot cleaner and more professional than the previous system. read more

They show up quickly, which is awesome, and Maryanne in their office is a treasure. But it takes repeated visits by techs who are either inexperienced or in a hurry to get out (and at least sometimes, don't know why they're at your house when they show up), and you pay labor charges every time, even when the problem never changed and you're told repeatedly it's fixed when it isn't. Frustrating and you get ripped off, even on a service contract--what a deal. They've been highly recommended for such a long time. Sad to see what's happened to this once proud company. read more

I have had a yearly maintenance contract with Davis and David for decades. And I have always had an excellent experience. Unfortunately, today's conversation leaves a very sour taste. In the middle of the night, I heard a loud clatter coming from the basement. The metal cover on the furnace had come loose and fallen to the concrete floor. I called D&D, and was told, later in the morning, that although I have a yearly maintenance contract, putting the cover back on the furnace constitutes a repair rather than maintenance. A $95 dollar fee would be charged. The same employee offered to send someone today to inspect my furnace for no charge, pursuant to the contract. But inserting the two screws necessary to secure the cover would cost $95. I know that everyone is stressed in these difficult times. But why alienate a lifetime customer? Davis and Davis: You are better than this. read more

On 2/11/24 Davis and Davis installed a new thermostat for $409, which controls the AC and boiler. On 10/17/24 we contacted another HVAC firm who confirmed that the boiler was operating fine. He made this determination by bypassing the thermostat and hardwired the boiler. Fired right up. He said it is possibly the new thermostat and given that it was still under warranty recommended contacting Davis and Davis. On 10/18/24 we contacted Davis and Davis to come check the thermostat. The technician was rude, and appeared uninterested. He visually checked behind the thermostat and claimed nothing was wrong. He proceeded to the boiler to check the wire coming from the boiler to the toggle switch that is connected to thermosat. Stated that the wire or connection is the problem and stated an electrician can snake a new wire. Charged us $100 and left. On 10/18/24 we contacted an electrician. On 10/22/24 electrician concluded it IS the thermostat. He pulled the thermostat off the wall and jumped the boiler and it immediately started. On 10/18/24 Davis and Davis most experienced technical as we were informed never attempted to jump the wires behind the thermostat. Several HVAC contractors stated that a junior technicians knows to jump the wires behind the thermostat to see if its the thermostat. On 10/18/24 we called Davis and Davis as if a new customer inquiring about a new boiler install. The rep said Davis and Davis could not only install the boiler but could perform the necessary electrical work. If I could give them a zero I would. On 10/22/24 contacted Davis and Davis to speak to a manager was placed on hold and told he was on an estimate and to leave a message on his phone. We wished we had seen the other negative reviews cited on this page. I am here to confirm and attest to the fact that the other reviewers and I are NOT lying. This company should be shutdown. We have all the receipts. Less than honest and RUDE. Bottom line is Davis and Davis did not want to replace the thermostat but had no problem cashing our checks. It has been almost an hour still haven't received a return call from Keith Smith, Manager. Disgusting. read more

Our furnace started acting up. I happened to be home - a rarity for me on a work day. Since this all happened at noon, I was really hoping that I could get someone here today. Not only were they able to get someone here, Tom had the part on the truck and was able to get my circuit board swapped out in about an hour. Even going beyond, however, was Tom's willingness to explain the situation to me, show me the tests he was running, and give me a technical explanation along with the problem. I'm a scientist, so I always want to know exactly how things work. In addition to the service, I learned something new. Tom's name was even on the service log from the previous owners of the house. I know this company is a bit of an institution in the area. I'm leaving today happy and with working heat. This was all in the course of about 2 hours from call to arrival to fix to departure. They sold me an AC system in 2017 that they knew (or should have known) would be obsolete by 2023, which is well below the average lifespan for an air conditioning system. Between the pinhole leaks (which leaked freon, and now you can't buy that freon) and the problems with the condensation drain, this installation has been a nightmare. I had dealt with D&D for over twenty years between my old house and current one. They used to be a good company, but not any more IMHO. I certainly will not be buying a new system from them or Lennox. read more

I've been a customer of Davis & Davis since 1990 - and until this year they've been a good firm to do business with - but I've found recently that has changed - early this year, the humidistat they installed with a new Aprilaire humidifier(whole house) failed - I found this out when I got an unusually high water bill - it turned out the humidistat would not turn off, no matter how high the humidity went - and in fact, I investigated this after getting poor advice from WSSC and two plumbers - that investigation involving callas to aprilaire tech people. They were the first to inform me if the humdistat fails, and, as in my case, an orifice in the mudifier goes bad, the humidifier can use huge amounts of water. The replacement humidistat(by Aprilaire) failed within 2 hours. It simply stopped working. So David & Davis - a very good tech return a day or two later with another new replacement -which worked fine until about 4 weeks ago. Then, I noticed the humidity in my house was close to 60% -even though the humdistat is designed to turn off the mudifier at a max of 45%, The humidifier had turned on during the night - and then rancontinually - would not turn off. I called Aprilaire again - and then davis & Davis. Which showed no interest in dealing with a third, bad humidistat, sent a tech who apparently felt the way to deal with the issue twas to deman and insult me - as if ithere was nothing wrong and I didn't know how to properly use a humidistate. I told him, of course, of the prior replacements and my discussions with aprilaire. He totally ignored what I told him - and saturned the humidistat off - saying wait until Fall. I called Aprilaire - which advised I deal wth the issue now - could well save me paying any additiona service ore replacement fees. I called Davis & Davis to report this - and have been ignored. I'm now talking to other firms - but in light of this experience, it is obvious Davis & Davis has lost site of the consumer it serves - so I would not consider using them again for anything - given how dismissive they are of a patent problem that aprilaire techs acknowledge exists read more

Lied and scammers! Told me the flue was cracked. It was the plastic molding lines from the factory not a crack. Repair man refused to explain the issues and repeated over and over. Told me the furnace (4 years old) was broken because it uses propane. So propane breaks propane furnaces??!. Lennox laughed at that. Second opinion shows different from Dave davis being close to $1000 for repairs plus bs diagnostic Called the owner to discuss my lack of faith in the installer and the owner was rude and aggressive to my concern. We have a service contract that is supposed to give us priority for service. We have our furnace and air conditioner serviced every six months regularly. But neither our priority or our six month service have been of any help on this very cold day with no heat. Husband has called numerous times for service and no help. Also last time we had regular service the technician was sour and obviously didn't like our non aggressive dogs. Probably time to move on. read more

Luckily I haven't needed many service calls over the years, but every time I have needed service the response been prompt and the repair was completed efficiently by a knowledgeable tech! After dozens of attempts to reach anyone other than their answering service I'm at a loss for how to contact these folks. Beware of this firm. Have used for 30 years - their technicians are good, but administration has fallen through the roof. Signed up my mother for an annual contract and agreed to charge to my credit card. After 3 weeks, and 3 calls to office manager, no charge to my card, no affirmation of contract. Then my mother's A/C/ had an issue- called them to fix, reminded them she now had a contract(which means reduce3d repair cost) and advised could charge repair cost to my credit card, along with contract they'd never charged for, or confirmed. After two weeks, still nothing so I called office manager again. Apologized - and we agreed she'd email me bills & my mother would write a check, that my credit card was NOT to be used. I have had two instances in one week where I have waited for a technician to come to no avail. First time I waited the entire 4 hour window, called to see what was going on and they told me that they wouldn't be able to make it until way later (which didn't work bc I had an appointment downtown). Rescheduled for today. They called me at 8 AM to tell me they'd be here within 1-4 so I ran errands all AM in order to be back in time for the 1-4 window. Spent the greater part of my Sunday waiting...At 3:45 still no technician. So, I called to ask when they'd be here. They told me they came at 12:30 and left bc no one was here. 12:30!?!?? So far I've wasted two days of my life waiting for a whole lotta nothing. AND the person who responded to my call was not apologetic and WAS very rude! Brett from Davis and Davis came out and quickly diagnosed the problem and fixed the blower. He was very professional and knowledgeable. The cost was very reasonable. My air conditioner stopped working during the heat wave of July. Of course everyone is busy and my installer couldn't come for several days. He recommended I call someone local. I called someone in my neighborhood and he had Covid. He recommended Davis and Davis. Keith came out the following day. Unfortunately my blower motor was dead and he'd have to order the part. It's was 96° outside. I had called the office to get an idea of the cost of labor and assistance with the part order. Kerry (sp) helped me out by asking me to send her the model and serial number. Then I got the exact quote and they said they'd call when they could come. They were guessing it would be a week since the demand is high now, in the hottest days of summer. I was surprised to get a call this morning saying the motor was in and Keith would be out between 4:00 and 7:00. He had it fixed within 1/2 hour. We just had a very good experience with Davis and Davis. Night before last, our air conditioner started making a terrible noise, and died. It was maybe 8:00 at night, and we called the company thinking to get a recording. We got an actual human, who said that for an emergency fee they could send someone out that night! When we asked how soon a non-emergency visit would be, we were told the next morning ... that they could call us as early as 6am to schedule an appointment, and the first appointments were 8-10am. We decided the next morning was fine. A technician called, the appointment was scheduled, and he showed up promptly. The motor was found to be burnt out, and they had to order a replacement, which they did immediately. It was shipped overnight and was installed this afternoon. We were without air conditioning for less that 48 hours. Service was prompt, extremely friendly, and reasonably priced, and we were told exactly what to expect and when to expect it at every point in the process. This is quality customer service, without any attempt to pressure us to buy something we didn't need. I'm very impressed with the company and will definitely use them again. read more

I am updating a prior less favorable review in light of the fast and helpful response of one of the company's owners - who reached out to me directly and gave me his personal cell - to resolve concerns about communications and getting a replacement coil for a Lennox A/C part still under warranty. He was able to free up a mechanic to replace the part without the one-week wait initially anticipated and will go to bat with Lennox to seek a credit for labor costs due to their failed part. Although I had been frustrated with communications, he made it right and was clearly interested in retaining a relationship with a long time client.was under warranty. Kudos to the evening/emergency call staff member who clearly conveyed my frustration so that I could receive the assistance i needed. It appears that the parts manager and/or department staff either is overwhelmed or needs better coordination on returning calls and tracking or keeping notes of what has or has not been conveyed. I imagine that COVID and start of the AC season has posed challenges. read more

I needed a completely new system and had avoided for two years to get one -- until the heat really got to me in August of 2016. I reviewed Yelp and Angie List reviews and met with three vendors on 8/18 - all three provided different products and I went with the Davis and Davis based on the sales presentation and follow-up prior to my making selection. The new system was installed the following week - took less than 5 hours......and I was highly impressed with the install team - from start to finish. I had no problem with the company and did not give them 5 stars as I strongly believe -- that a great sales is from finish to end....the sales and install ended - but no one called to ask me how are things going and if I am pleased with the service. It would have been a difference to me. However, even without the follow-up call - I strongly recommend Davis and Davis for your HVAC needs. read more

We moved in to Wheaton in April and this week our AC started to go on the fritz. We selected Davis & Davis solely based on Yelp reviews and the fact that their main office is close to us. We are glad we did. The technician (Craig) showed up on time and called when he was about 30 minutes away letting us know he was on his way. He diagnosed our issue quickly (clogged coil and needed to add freon) and answered my most dumbest of questions as I tried learning about what he was doing. 34 year old Air conditioner went on the frizz. Asked around for a recommendation and two neighbors pointed us to Davis & Davis. Set up an appointment for Saturday and they gave me a window of from 8 AM to 4 PM and said they would call and narrow it down on the Saturday. At 7:19 AM I got a call that the service tech would be here between 8 and 10. By 8:20 he was here and went straight to work. Found the problem, had the needed part, got it replaced and came in at a price that we thought was very reasonable. I sit here now with the windows finally closed and the portable fans off enjoying my now functioning air conditioning. I would definitely recommend them. read more
