I went to traffic court today for my first moving violation in over 10 years. I'd heard through the…read moregrapevine (and via online research) that hiring a traffic attorney would be a good move. I researched several options. Some had negative reviews and one place wanted me to mail them my ticket and a check ($80) and then just wait for them to get back to me. They refused to offer any receipt or other proof of retainer and when I asked, the attorney scoffed and said "I have never done that in 30 years." Needless to say I kept looking. I was exhausted and about to give up when I found Benavides. I called and the receptionist was friendly. She was able to access my ticket online (I didn't need to mail her the original), processed my payment over the phone, and promptly emailed a receipt--already a vast improvement over the other guys. There was not a lot of follow-up communication for a while. I emailed them to inquire about my reset court date and again, the receptionist responded promptly. She told me they were still waiting. A day or two later she wrote me back with the new date. The day before (yesterday) I emailed again to confirm and seek instructions. Again, she promptly responded with clear directions on what to do: report to my court room and wait for a gentleman to call my name. I did just that. Much to my relief, Benavides was only representing me and one other person. Nearly everyone else there was represented by 1 of 3 firms. I think the smaller case load got me and the other client out of there quickly. Our attorney was friendly and professional. He didn't explain a whole lot about the strategy so I am not sure what he did, but he got my tickets dropped (there were 2 citations for the same act) and I was out of there by 10 am. We started at 8 so that wasn't bad at all. No fees. No court costs. I was free to go. Thankfully I didn't have to deal with the cashier line at all. Now I cannot promise all cases go the same. Perhaps my citing officer no-showed. Maybe I was cut slack for being a first time offender. Idk, but I am glad it is over. Btw, their fee was $125. A wee bit higher than some others, but to me it was worth it to have faster service because the attorney wasn't representing a dozen people. I hope I never have to, but if I do need help again with a traffic ticket, I'd probably hire them. P.S. the only reason they received 4 instead of 5 stars is because I wish they'd initiated more of the communication, like sending a reminder and instructions without me having to ask. That is really the only area of improvement that I can suggest.
