It's right off the highway, so easy to find but also not very private or quiet, since you're completely exposed to the road and can hear the cars passing. The owners run a gas station/convenience store across the street, which is where you go to check-in and pay. They also live on the property. The beach area was nice, even though it was too cold to swim, we did hang out here for some time. They had a big playground, so it's kid-friendly. They also had horseshoes and lots of non-motorized watercrafts for guests to enjoy free of charge, which was nice. We went canoeing, something my German friends really revelled in. We stayed in Cabin 5, which I later discovered was older and smaller than some of the other cabins. It has that cabiny-feel from the pine walls and ceiling, but the bedrooms were barely big enough for the double beds in them and it was just cramped with 4 adults in there. The doors to the bedroom and washroom were thin too so you can hear everyone's business. At the time I thought this was par for the course but upon reviewing their website later I realized they had some bigger, newer cabins in the same price range. There were only one or two other parties staying there while we were there so I'm not sure what the logic was in putting us in the cabin with the smaller rooms. Maybe less cleaning? I especially would have appreciated it the bedrooms didn't have graffiti carved into the walls. Made me feel like I was back at overnight camp as a kid. In front of each cabin is a little campfire area which is nice but again, it's not at all private. You're sitting next to the private road that leads to the cottages. Good view of the lake though. On our first night there, the owner had a huge bonfire out near the beach and another couple visiting from the US came and sat with us by the fire. It was nice to look at the stars and listen to the loons, but of course you can do this at any cottage on a lake in this part of Canada. Overall 2.5 stars, rounded up because I'm nice and this is their first review. I had a good time, but likely because I love seeing my friends and it was off-season, so the resort was quiet. The accommodations were too small and the cabins too close together with no trees between them for me to enjoy returning during the busier summer season.

We had a bit of time to relax and explore the property before the first ceremony and buffet dinner that night. The second day we had a gourmet breakfast brunch and then most of the day free to wander around more, enjoy the hot tub, and get ready for the second ceremony on the dock. Weather was perfect both days - high 70s, sunny, intermittently overcast, and really everything you could want for a summer wedding. Our actual chalet was amazing - beautifully decorated, spacious for the 4-5 of us, and had great views of and direct access to the lake. Our air conditioning unit did leak a bit but other than that, no maintenance or mechanical issues. Our unit had 1.5 baths - the extra half bath really made a difference in us being able to get ready at a leisurely pace which made the experience that much more pleasant. As far as the rest of the property, the communal pool and hot tub is actually in a relatively small enclosed space, but still brightly decorated/furnished and a fun spot to hang out. The lobby, bar, and lounge area are great for relaxing or you can sit out in one of the many adirondack seats overlooking the water. And the formal dining area where we had the buffet breakfasts and plated dinners was so elegant, stylish, and luxurious. Lots of white, clean feel, etc, and best of all, an actual piano! All in all, we had a great time and to share the chalet for two nights among 5 people, the cost was much more reasonable and easier top swallow. There is Roku TV in the main lounge but channels mainly limited to streaming subscribers. The large secluded pool looks looks nice but was not accessible presumably for maintenance or repair. The staff seem locally recruited and were very pleasant and helpful. A variety of boating equipment, tennis court and mini-beach were available. As for the food..oops! Plenty of it, a reasonable variety for a short stay but not up to par. Breakfast was fair but not inspiring with the typical hot & cold mixed buffet. In fairness, one cannot account for personal tastes but I would say the dining experience brought back memories of my first experience in Canada in 1980. Much can depend on what the kitchen staff is provided with but Kraft-style grated Parmesan has no close connection to real cheese so let that be a clue. The service incidentally was excellent. As someone who prepares and cooks food daily I don't want to be over critical when food is prepared for say 10 or more where attention to individual dishes and timing can be an issue. However my 5 star rating for the food is 2 only saved by the Desserts and Breakfast. Everything else at the resort site was 4 star. Didn't use the spa or fitness centre. Loved the quiet and peaceful setting. I think there are some larger cottages with kitchens and likely access to some fresh supplies in Port Sydney....that would be my choice!

We stayed on the first weekend in July during a heat wave and some intermittent rain, which seemed to have brought a lot of mosquitos. There's also leeches present in the water so do be mindful when going swimming in the lake. The breakfast buffet was very delicious. The rooms have great sound proofing as the cabin next door were up partying late at night and we didn't hear them at all.
