I would like to preface that DBS was once a great and highly recommended contractor by our family after our first dealings with them. They put in an egress window and a waterguard system as well as waterproofing a basement bedroom. However after the last 6 months of waiting on return calls and having to be the one facilitating the communication, i am done with them. Our basement flooded and we suspected the waterguard system might have failed in some part so after a painless experience of 2 contractors coming out to test it back in August, they found a leak and would be coming out to patch it up and put our finished closet (put in by them the fall previously) back together. 8/19 they came out to assess the 2nd time and then it wasnt until a month later they got out to actually do the patch job. Then this lead to multiple phone calls on my own accord to find out when they would be back out to put everything back together. I was told by the contractors each time they would pass along that it needs to be scheduled and multiple staff in logistics it would be scheduled only to be met with delay after delay (the contractor even texted me on 11/4 saying he wouldnt be able to make it and would work to reschedule.) jump to end of that week and no call so we scheduled for the next week 11/13 with SUPRISE!! NO ONE SHOWED UP! I called and allegedly a subcontractor needed to come out to finish the job and i would get a call back that day with more info. NOPE! Called the following week and got bounced to Serena's voicemail multiple times with no return calls until i called back 11/21 and pushed for more answers. Allegedly they needed photos for the contractor to know what materials were needed (never was told that and don't you think you could have gotten those photos when one of the other crews was out?!) I sent those photos in and now we are 4 weeks after the fact, no one is returning my calls and i'm fed up. What good is a lifetime warranty when the workers coming out to dismantle my closet only leave it in disrepair as if i havent already spent 30K with your business in the last 2 years! This has been a nightmare and as a hospice nurse i had a thought occur to me as it played out multiple times, waiting for calls back or someone to show up: i pray no one has a loved one dying on hospice and their nurse cannot make it to comfort them because they are waiting around for someone at DBS to show up and do the job they promised to do! read more

DO NOT do business with them. We met with them in March 2023, against our first impressions as the salesperson tried to sell us an air purifier. (What?? That was weird...) But, they promised lifting our concrete apron was less than half the price of getting new concrete, and oversold the benefits of lifting our concrete with foam. We were scheduled for July 2023, but shortly after I got a text that work would be done in early August. We wanted the work done in the summer as we needed to get other exterior work done, but we were saving thousands, right...? August came and went, not a word from them. September, nothing. October? Of course not. No response from the salesperson when I reached out for manner months later. By this time, I got a quote from a concrete company, I could get a whole apron and sidewalk done for just a couple hundred dollars more! Not only that, our siding contractor informed us that lifting with foam was a temporary fix and we would have more issues with water getting under the foam due to the slope of our driveway. On NOVEMBER 14th I got a text stating they were coming to lift our concrete that day. November in MN is winter! I informed them I had signed with someone for all new concrete, because they ghosted me for months. Several weeks later, I did get a check for a PARTIAL refund. They kept a percentage of my money for "cancelation fees". Several hundred dollars! I emailed the owner stating I deserved a full refund for false advertising, misrepresentation, and breech of contract. Zero communication between March and November is unacceptable. Instead of getting a response and/or the rest of the money they basically stole from me, I got blocked on social media so I couldn't tell their customers how shady and deceiving they are. Do not believe anything they promise you, and be prepared to be pressured into buying a very expensive air purifier. read more

Do not use this company. We hired them to raise our concrete apron and install underground downspout. I thought that the experience would produce a complete project. Instead it made extra work for us. The day they were supposed to start I called to confirm. They cancelled our contract because they didn't have a record of our $2000 down payment. I sent them a copy of the contract. They were just going to keep our money with no phone call. We rescheduled but when they called to confirm, they had a different day again. They showed up with the wrong size gutter attachment. No offer to come back. He told me to go to Menards and buy one. Even though it was supposed to be part of the project. When they were digging the trench, they just piled dirt on top of our landscaping rock so when they shoveled it back it was all together. Now we have to dig it all out and redo it. When I called about it they said they didn't do landscaping and that is in the contract. This has nothing to do with landscaping. It's just common sense. It takes the same amount of work to shovel on a tarp as it does onto landscaping rock. No offer of compensation. Just an empty apology. If you can't do a job right, you shouldn't offer the service. We hired DBS to fix our garage floor. They came on July 8, 9, &10 (for a 2 day job). When they left on the 10th, the job was NOT done. When they left, they left enormous stains on my driveway, my front steps, and my house siding; they left quite a few unfilled holes drilled into driveway and garage floor that now collect water and debris; they left foam squirted up the windows and screens on the inside of the garage; they left some of our lawn dead. I asked what was going to be done about all this, "Oh we'll get that taken care of right away", as they pulled away from our home. We called and called, and 10 days later someone came out to at least cut the excess foam from around the building. Last week they said they'd be our first thing Monday morning (7/29/24). No show, no call. We have had to cancel at least two trips (a class reunion and an out-of-state vacation), and the entirety of our garage is sitting on our lawn, our deck, in our house, and wherever else we could stuff our things. It's all been out of the garage for the entire month of July where it's getting rained on, and there's every likelihood things are being stolen. So, unless they fix all of this, I foresee that I will have to fork out money to have something done to the entire driveway to make this huge stain not look like a grotesque murder scene, replace the siding, replace the front deck. BTW, we are retired and on a fixed income, so thanks so much DBS for helping us to the poor house. We couldn't afford YOU, much less all these additional expenditures. No, don't call them for an estimate, don't hire them for a job--just forget they exist, since that seems to be what they do with their customers. My wife and I are very disappointed with DBS. This fall, we engaged DBS to replace four posts supporting our deck. The work crew did not arrive on the day they were scheduled, and no one called to inform me. They did show up at 10AM the next day and they rushed the job, and it showed. The inside production supervisor agreed with us in that the helical supports were poorly installed under our deck, and the crew needed to come back out and correct their sloppy work. Unfortunately, they showed up on a day when we weren't expecting them. When the work crew was finished the second time, the installation was considered to be acceptable. In addition to the above, the work crew damaged our deck and tore up our lawn a bit with their equipment. To his credit, the inside production supervisor did return and repaired the damage to our deck, but he did nothing about the lawn. For the money we spent on this project, we expected first-class workmanship. We received something far less than that. We would not recommend DBS to anyone. read more

I was looking for mold remediation. Called company, set appointment, had a service tech come out. Knowing all I wanted was mold work, he proceeded to quote me an $8k job I didn't need. When I asked what the price of just the mold treatment, was told they don't do that as it's not cost effective. Asked why he bothered to come out knowing that's all I wanted. He refused to answer. Wasted half a day, was mislead about services, then basically harassed/pressured to get $8k worth of unnecessary work. Very disappointed. read more

Terrible job fixing garage floor. Contractor put too much filler in and the floor is peaked right in front of the entrance door to the house. Called and was told someone would be coming back in 3 weeks to look at the floor. Instead, the same contractor called that day and said he couldn't do anything to fix it. read more

DBS came out to reinforce our basement walls and put in an egress window. Their wall team smashed my neighbor's garden up (didn't tell us, apologize or repair it), destroyed our sump pump drainage so now we have water soaking our neighbor's yard and it took the egress guy 10 days to complete his job because they only had one guy do it AND it was wrong. Our contractor had to take him to task about installing a window that was so crooked it wouldn't open. Nice crew guys, but I would NEVER recommend them to anyone. Not happy with our work. We were also told they'd come to clean up their debris (concrete, egress grate excess, bricks, etc) and that never happened. We have our neighbor's relationship damaged, had to pay for a landscaping company to repair our neighbor's garden and now have to pay multiple thousands of dollars to fix our sump pump drainage. This was NOT worth it. read more

Started the process back in march when they sent Justin out to my house for a consult and estimate. We went through what they can do and assured me what the final results would look like. I stressed several times that I was concerned on where the concrete met the black top and that I want to make sure all the joints would stay even. I went with them and gave them the deposit on March 21st. Then I do not hear from them, called them twice to get an idea of when they would be out because I wanted to be there. I get a call the morning of Tuesday August 29th that they would be there in 45 minutes, I was at work and could not get off with no notice. They were just leaving when I did get home and the work they did did not meet what was expected. There was a big gap where it met the black top and you could see there was no filler under it so that will crack in time. The missed putting filler in another spot and that has already cracked. And then where they said there would not be unlevel concrete at a seam I have a big ledge. I have left messages and have not received a call back. read more

lots of smoke and mirrors to cover spotty work. I have had three projects done with them and regret every one. the warranty is worthless if you don't do their "maintenance plan" they will not cover it. which costs enough to redo the job in 10 years. the work is cheap and if you point something out that is wrong they will send you a design specialist to ask for more money for a project you already paid for. 30,000 to level a garage floor. must be hard to do I guess. they are the only ones that can do it so they overcharge. done with 2 guys in 4 hours. hope the warranty is real on this one. read more

Contacted DBS early spring. Wanted a quote for the sidewalks in our community. Waited several months for them to come. For a job this size thought they would send someone experienced. The lady that showed up spent several hours taking measurements ect... then came in to give us quote. Punched her figures in and the quote came back at 24,000 for 1 section of a block. She laughed and apologized and said she was new. She would bring the measurements back to her office and have someone with more experience come and quote the project. Waited another 2 weeks. The day before the scheduled appointment she contacted us and said we should maybe work with this other company she found in our area. We were too far away. REALLY! Perhaps the quote really was 24,000 for 1 section or 96,000 for a block. Very unprofessional. Beware! read more

The contractor we hired to redo our front porch hired DBS to drill and place footings for the new one. In the process, they drilled through our sewer line which will require an estimated $15-20K repair. We contacted them and they blamed our contractor and now we're in a he said/he said situation which we probably can't resolve. Having them do the work has turned out to be a very expensive mistake regardless. On that basis, and their response, would definitely not recommend. read more

Unfortunately, my experience with DBS was less than satisfactory. It started with multiple scheduling delays even though we had agreed upon a date 3 months in advance and ended with a job not done, a big mess for me to clean up, and a bill for an incomplete job. DBS has finally provided a refund, but unfortunately it took nearly 6 months, I still had to clean up the mess, and find another solution for a job that was not completed like DBS promised. I would make sure to get everything in writing before proceeding with DBS. read more

DBS has now rescheduled our roof insulation job 3 times. Each time it has been their equipment not working that caused the delay. They show up late, start setting up, and find their equipment doesn't work. We've put our dogs in daycare each time they were supposed to do work, so there's been a lot of extra $$$ and running around to get zero work done. I've gotten up extra early twice to make sure our driveway and sidewalks were cleared of snow for them. We've now rescheduled the job for May. I would recommend a different contractor. read more

I worked for dbs for 5 years and I have never seen a company spend more time,money and other valuable resources, to make the best team that will provide the best solution for their customers. The amount of effort put in to please each and every homeowner was not found in any other contractors. I would recommend DBS over any other company in Duluth. read more
