Went to DC Improv Comedy Club to see Michael Blackson and had such a good time. I've been to a ton of shows here over the years and honestly it's always a great experience. The atmosphere is fun, the crowd energy is usually good, and it's one of my favorite spots in DC for comedy shows. Just don't forget there is a two item minimum once you're seated, so definitely keep that in mind before you go. I've been here twice and its always great. Local comedians are often showcased with bigger ones that travel across the country. The two item minimum has never been a problem for me with the DC swiss burger and an angry orchard coming out to about $35 after tip. I just factor that into the cost since the tickets for the show are usually pretty cheap. It can be a little tight in the room but overall great with not a bad seat in the house either time. just dont be late or the last ones in. read more

Recently took my husband here to see Aries Spears (great show!), it was both our first time here. Audience was a diverse DC crowd. Booked tickets well in advance via Vivid Seats and bought the event protection. The interior was smaller than I expected, definitely a homey feel. We arrived an hour early to pick up our tickets at Will Call, painless quick process. Host led us to our seats and was friendly. We sat close to the front. Average waiting time to get our food for a busy comedy club, the old bay fries and burrito were pretty good! Needed improvement: Our server wasn't smiling at all, did the bare minimum. My husband ordered two items that were featured in one of their combo specials and didn't notice, a great server would've pointed out that it's more cost effective to order the combo, but she didnt. left a low tip as feedback, figured that would get the message across. She then came back to ask if everything was okay with the service when we were trying to pay attention to the show- didn't feel like explaining then, so explaining here. Other servers however appeared friendlier. Pro tip: if you want to get picked on by the comedian, sit towards the front in the center, that's where it's lit and he/she and the camera can actually see you. Or the tables flanking the stage. Parking tip: the garage right next to the theatre is $17, suggest parking there rather than the pricier $25 one around the corner across the street! We realized this after. What a wonderful spot in DC for some laughs!! My husband and I came here on a date night and left grinning from ear to ear - we watched a local standup comedian. The venue itself is a little small- but with the way it's set up, it honestly seems like there is not a "bad" view in the house. The staff was super friendly and worked hard to serve everyone with drinks and food - for our event, they did it right from our table. We got some food and drinks which were average, about what you'd expect for a venue like this! We can't wait to return for some more belly laughs. read more

Had a great time watching Aries Spears! Inside it's "intimate" because it's on the small side and it has low ceilings. But this is part of the charm IMO. Its a comedy club and not a concert space. Get there early so you get seats you want. I had no issue with the service but considering the venue I would suggest they install ordering terminals so you don't have to disturb the show by ordering during the performance. This would also help when you want to get their attention but it's dark. Just a suggestion. Pretzel rolls: Excellent! They were warm, delicious, and the cheese dip really brought it home. Cheddar burger: This was fine, I wish they would season the patty, but almost no one does this. Chicken tenders: Solid tenders, good portion size, and comes with fries. My wife got them "buffalo wing" style but they could have had more buffalo sauce on them or have a side of sauce as well. Chocolate cake: Very moist and chocolatly. I understand for lower cost ticket events and for free shows, but it seems like a lot to ask after paying the price of a ticket! We visited the DC Improv a few weeks ago to see the comedian, Martin Amini, and it's a quaint location that serves food and has a full service bar. I don't drink too much alcohol, so they do serve coffee for those coffee drinkers. We didn't try the food so I can't review the food, but the location, service and the ambiance were on point. I highly recommend this location to see comedians since it's a small venue where it can get quite "intimate" with the performer and crowd. read more

Again, I appreciate the reasonable prices especially given the two item minimum 3 stars for service. Came here to see Michael Longfellow recently and had a much better experience. I think partially because I knew what to expect and also bc the weather wasn't as intense, it felt pretty seamless. We were sat by how early we bought tickets, not how early we got in line which was nice. We were sat at a table with strangers but it was fine. I ordered the loaded tots and a Diet Coke and our food came out quickly and our server was super attentive. I came here for a Drag Brunch and had a fantastic time! The tables were super close together, which sucks but, hey we gotta make money, so I don't blame em for putting in as many seats as possible! I don't love that there was a two item minimum, but, again, we all gotta make money! I ordered a burrito which came with chips and salsa... the burrito was decent, but there was literally no cheese in it. I'm not even big on cheese in my entrees, but it's a burrito! I asked the server about it and was like if there's no cheese what is holding the burrito insides together. What a wonderful experience. We went to the comedy showcase for the 7:30 show on a Friday night. We got there at 6:30 and were able to get a great spot. Our server Trevon was super attentive and was able to handle our groups jokes. He delivered drinks in a timely manner and got our orders together swiftly. We started with the mozzarella sticks and these were some of the best I had. I also ended up getting the chicken finger basket and again very good and happy with my choice. Now what we really came for the comedy. We were cracking up through the 5 acts. They were all really good. I had 3 favorites that I couldn't stop laughing the whole time. Last night was my first time at DC Improv and it did not disappoint! We went to see Rafi Bastos to celebrate my dad's birthday and had an absolutely amazing night. A 2 minute walk from the Farraguat North Metro station Tickets are basically "will call". So be prepared to wait in line, that goes down stairs. The person checking for tickets literally just looks your name up on a list and you're escorted in Attended with a friend, Friday night super late show lol. We opted to get a reserved table. Tables are TINY, as the seating is agaisnt the wall, and not on opposite sides of the table Club area is maybe relatively small, but probably because so many tables/chairs are packed together We saw 4 local artists. They were all hilarious! Long Island Drink was good & strong Chicken Tenders were good. Came with maybe 5-6 sizeable tenders. Does not come with fries. I ordered Buffalo with blue cheese, ended up getting just plain chicken tenders and ranch dressing. I was able to get a side of buffalo sauce Ty was our waiter - he was awesome! Went last night to see Gina Yashere. Great show and the warmup act with Dana was phenomenal. Our server was named....... Forgot but he had dreads and was amazing How him and the staff stay organized is special we went to the early show... descent enough location with places to eat in the area but improv does have a 2 item minimum. Our food was good the desserts not a fan. The prices have always been reasonable and we got to pick our seats since we arrived as soon as the doors opened. Nicole Byer is next. Fun place that is an old school style comedy club with a two food/drink item minimum We had a reserved table so were able to get a good seat on a Friday night and both seats faced the stage but be warned many larger tables have seats that face away from the stage. The comedians were really funny when we went but of course that's the luck of the draw on who you see. Food/drinks were about what you'd expect for a comedy club. The soft pretzels were fine and seemed like they might've been frozen and microwaved. The draft beer was good and the mango heat margarita was meh, seemed like it was probably a mix and had a strong mix type flavor, but that didn't stop me from having a second one. I took my friend to see one of his favorite comedians, Kyle Kinane, this evening, and I was super excited since it was my first visit to a comedy club. I usually see most comedians at the Warner Theatre. We attended the 10 PM show so we could enjoy dinner beforehand in the city. Now, onto the club experience: let's be clear that everyone, from the folks at the will-call window to the gentleman at the door and the young lady who was our server, was absolutely amazing all evening long. It's nice to see that some people in the service industry still enjoy their jobs--two thumbs up! You all rocked. The venue was dimly lit once the show started, and photography and phone use were not allowed during the performance. There is a two-item minimum per person at the table. They had a food menu, which consisted of what I consider typical bar fare. We didn't order food since we had already eaten, but the dishes that came to other patrons at our table looked and smelled really good, and the service was prompt. We met our minimum by ordering two drinks each, and the bill came to $48--not too bad for city pricing. There were two downsides: first, the steps to get into the venue were wet and slippery due to the rain, so please take caution when it's not dry outside. Second, when I say they fill the room, they really fill the room--every square inch is occupied by tables and chairs, leaving very little room to maneuver. Having your back to the stage is never my favorite way to watch a show, but we were close to the stage, and we made it work. All in all, we had an amazing time, and when we attend a show here in the future, we will make sure to get tickets closer to the stage. read more

This is a good venue for comedy, and provides the experience you would expect. We saw a show here and were pleased. The show started on time, the stage was visible from every part of the room, the bathroom was passable, and the wait staff dropped the check before the show was over, so we weren't trapped there indefinitely. The space has zero ambience; it's got low ceilings, everything is painted black, and the tables and chairs are functional at best. There is a 2 item minimum, and the ratio of food/drink quality to price is skewed in the wrong direction. However, no one comes for the dining experience - this is a performance venue that has a restaurant smooshed into it and if you adjust your expectations accordingly, you can have a nice time. read more

Swanky, dive vibe with nice ambiance. Very organized establishment. The food is comparable to bar food and a decent variety including vegetarian options. The wait staff tackles a lot so be patient but they'll take care of you. I did notice a few items were billed between .50 cents to $2 more than what was on the dining room menus. They need to do better with that as those dollars add up depending on what people order. Loaded tots are good but can be mushy so if stick to regular tots or loaded nachos. The bacon cheese burger is a good portion size but the neat has no flavor and borderline dry. Side salad w/ chunky blue cheese was good. Wings are standard deep fried. read more

Came on a Wednesday night with my good Judy's for Kid Fury's 930pm set. This is my first time at DC Improv so I didn't have many expectations. The location is clean, well lit and easy to find. Parking on the street was easy but it was a Wednesday so it maybe more of a headache during the weekend. The atmosphere was laid back with purple/red/blue tinted lighting on the inside which gave the room a nice glow. There's a 2 item minimum so I ordered a strawberry lemon drop and a bbq burger with fries. I did unfortunately get the wrong burger and had to be brought the toppings on the side for this error but it was rectified fairly quickly. Outside of the item minimum I'm not sure if I'd come back but the experience was decent enough. read more

The visibility of the stage is horrible. There is no true elevation and they pack the room to capacity. Barely elbow room to eat/ your minimum two order meal or beverage. The bathrooms are not disability accessible. The nachos were underwhelming, but I didn't have high expectations. The only toppings they offer are chicken, chili and steak. The mock-tail I had was good just very iced down. Best thing about the show was Kid Fury. read more

Been in the DMV for years and I must admit this was my first time at the DC Improv, but I can say it won't be my last. The night I went there were two shows happening at one time so getting into the venue was a little tricky and confusing but once inside we were seated at a table right next to the stage. the venue is very "intimate" so there's a possibility that you may share a table with someone you don't know but I didn't mind that at all. We were all there for a good time and let me tell you a time was had! They enforce a two-item minimum per person per table so be mindful of that. While I didn't have any food, I heard that the buffalo chicken dip, wings, and chicken tenders and fries were all good. Although this was my first time here, it definitely will not be my last. I had so much fun seeing Jay Pharoah, the guy is hilarious and a genius with all of the impersonations. This belowgound standby bans phone use during the show, so I post no pictures, but that's probably a good thing. They require you to order two items from the food and drink menu, which likely isn't as good as what you'd find elsewhere, but at least they had decent options and I got a salad with abundant avocado and a San Pellegrino to wash it down. The show was relatively without hitch and overall the feel was very retro. Small indoor venues took a big hit during the COVID era, but this one appears to be going strong. read more

My husband and I saw Akash Singh, my favorite comedian, here on January 20th. We arrived about 15 minutes early and were able to get decently good seats. The tables are pretty close together, so it's hard to get to your table. Once we were settled, we did not get up at all until the show was over because it was just too hard to squeeze out. Good thing I ordered food in advance because it was very hard to flag down a waiter during the show. It was also very dark. Our food items were actually pretty good. I got the burger and my husband got the grilled chicken sandwich. The grilled chicken sandwich was better. Parking is a little hard in the area, so plan to arrive early. It is first come first serve seating, so make sure you come in advance to secure a good seat. If you come with a bigger party, make sure you account for finding a table that can fit your party. Luckily we were only two people, and we were seated with four other strangers at our table. Overall, it was a really enjoyable experience and I would come here again for a future comedy show. read more

I love DC Improv! It's become a go-to on my last two visits to DC and its always a great time. For one, they have a great lineup of comedians. Secondly, service is organized and consistent. During my last visit in July, I swung by to see Deray Davis. I purchased my ticket online with no hassle. On the day of, I showed up about a half hour prior to show time and got seated in a great spot. Among many of the things I like about DC improv, its their system of seating single folks. I'm an avid solo traveler, which means I enjoy venturing out alone but I love to connect with others during my travels. DC Improv is probably the only place I've been to that will seat others who are attending alone, all at one table. I love this idea because the folks at the table are so cool! One was even a NY native, so we had a lot in common. The show started on time and the opening acts were hilarious. One was from Brooklyn, NY, so I resonated so much with his humor. DeRay was top tier as well and timing for each act was reasonable. Sound is great but the view can be skewed depending on where you sit. During my first visit, my view was obstructed by a structural beam. There are TVs, but I'd rather see the person full view. There is also a two item minimum (I saw a review say it's not written anywhere, but it IS on their site and noted on tickets). I decided on the chicken quesadilla and a soft drink. Typical bar food, nothing spectacular but it was good. Service was great however, it does get a bit hectic once the show starts or minutes prior. Overall, a great vibe and the perfect start to my July 4th weekend. Highly recommended and I will be returning! read more

I paid about $55-60 to see D.L. Hugley here. The price wasn't bad but booked without realizing I would have to order two items from the food menu. It was mentioned on the booking confirmation (or I could have missed it before making my purchase). The place is cute and intimate. My server Q was very attentive and in less than 5 minutes of being seated she was right there to take my order. I was happy to see they had 3 different mocktails on the menu. I tried two of them and they were yummy. The women's restroom was clean and I really appreciated that. From where I sat, I had a great view of the show but I could see where someone's view could get obstructed. I came to a Sunday evening show so the city was quiet and metered parking was free but I can imagine that parking would be a nightmare on another day. DC improv has been on my list for quite some time and when an ad popped up on facebook advertising that DL Hughley was visiting this summer I decided to finally give it a shot and go visit! The booking was easy enough, and you receive a lot of instructions before you arrive with what to expect. (I definitely recommend reading them carefully, because I almost went to HH beforehand not realizing that there is a two item minimum per person, whether that is food or drinks!) I chose their "early" show on Sunday and, again, we were told what to expect ahead of time including checking in, being seated, and when to arrive. Ultimately, when you buy your ticket, you don't have assigned seats, but you are given a seat when you arrive and you have some flexibility on where you'd like to sit. Not a problem! We got there maybe 30 minutes after the doors opened and were able to sit only a few tables back from the stage. Everyone at the table(s) was really nice and the servers came over right away to start taking orders and get things out to people before the show started. While we didn't get any food, the drinks were good and there was a good variety. Once the show started, we were able to just sit back and relax and have a good time. The servers are able to continue bringing people items without interrupting the view or the show itself, so I think they do an excellent job making sure people are able to still enjoy what's on the menu, even after the show has begun! The team at DC improv is very organized and as long as you read your instructions on what to expect before you come, you will have an enjoyable experience and avoid any hiccups. Looking forward to coming back again for more shows in the future! Had a super fun Friday night here. My jaw was hurting from laughing too much by the end of the show. We had front row seats since we're here this night mainly to support our friend Rodney Perry. For other occasions when we came here, I preferred the high tables on the left side. We had Great table side service, delicious bar style foods, and tasty cocktails+tea. Minimum 2 items are required to purchase per ticket holder. And no admission required on open mic nights, which is something we always want to come to check out. It's a club so darkened lighting are expected. There are Parking garage either right next to the entrance of the club or nearby one street over. A long time running, old school staple and comedy club in the heart of downtown DC. We saw a fantastic showcase of five comedians; with DC native Teddy Carpenter from the original HBO Def Comedy Jam being the headliner. Some of them were pure-absolutely hilarious and they kept the crowd laughing in stitches. At times, it was hard to breathe because of the comedian's jokes, animated delivery, and random improv and cracking jokes on people in the audience.....which is true talent in itself. Additionally, we had an excellent server. She was very attentive the entire show and kept the drinks and food coming. Not to mention the food we ordered was really good. There were a couple areas that needed improvement, from the restrooms which were tiny for the size of the venue and seating which is very tight. But, even with all those little things that could be improved, we went for the comedy and they all certainly delivered on that! read more

This place was amazing! I'm visiting DC for the first time and had to catch a few events at the comedy club. I went two nights in a row and attended three separate events, which I all enjoyed. The first night was "Read the Room," which was basically the comedians speaking to the people in the room to make the audience laugh, led by the very handsome and funny Tim Miller :) The second night, I attended two shows: a stand up comedian line up, followed by the very special Arnez J. I had such a good time! The nachos on the menu were so yummy, I would get them again and again. The woman who opened up for Arnez J was hilarious! I almost liked her more than Arnez! Overall, very good vibes. I loved the people at my table, even though I didn't know any of them. The service was also very good, both nights. I would definitely return if I visit DC again. The DC Improv is one of my favorite places to visit in Washington, D.C. Most nights of the week, the comedy club puts on standup comedy shows, as well as other comedic acts like sketch comedy, improv, pun-themed comedy, politician-impersonating roasts and more. In addition to the main room that accommodates several hundred people, there's also a smaller lounge room that seats around 60 attendees. I've enjoyed many shows in both rooms, seeing headliners like Tracy Morgan in the big room, and local comedy troupes and standups in the lounge. Everyone who works at the DC Improv is friendly and focused on guests having a great time. Servers are quick and attentive. The menu includes non-alcoholic drinks, vegan options and the legendary Chocolate Thunder Cake. The club's basement location makes it cool and unique in the city.
