I popped along over the weekend as one of my best friends is currently exhibiting some of here textile and photographic art here. The art on show is interesting and varied and it was a great opportunity to pick up something special and unique from a selection of local artists. The space itself is also quite stunning - old brick floors and large windows letting in lots of light as well as allowing beautiful views of Alfriston village and the surrounding countryside. Most pieces in here are contemporary, bursting with colour, often quirky yet somehow simplistic at the same time, appealing to a large audience (I'm especially taken with Dominika Ruta's paintings). The space itself is homely and welcoming yet lends itself well to the frequent exhibitions, which include local artists as well.

The owner and curator of Blue Dog Gallery, she has created a lively gallery space that celebrates and platforms a compelling mix of Polish art. Set against striking white and bright blue walls, there's a strong mix of bright and playful paintings, ceramics and glassware. The work of established and emerging Polish designers, there's also some big sculptures and a wee bio for each designer. The things I left wanting to buy however, were the kitsch Mystic Pizza and Lolita film posters.

It was a lucky find down a street I wouldn't normally use. I'm saving my pennies for the Butterfly one. This gallery is a little bit cool and the owner is quite quirky and good for a chat if you pop in. Its new and I hope it enjoys the success that it rightly deserves.

The Print Room is a gallery owned by Shane Record, local artist and keen member of the community…read more He specialises in paintings of the local area including a particulary loved red telephone box found in Folkestone harbour. He has been campaigning to keen this telephone box open since BT decided they didn't want to maintain it any longer. He can be seen painting in the window of his gallery five days a week and is happy to have a chat about his work with passers by. He sells his paintings from his gallery but also sells postcard prints of each painting. His gallery is certainly worth a look as he really capture a traditional view of Folkestone.

Includes figurative sculpture, naïve style still life, abstraction, portraiture, prints, city scenes and everything not so easily categorised in between. The director is knowledgeable and helpful, understanding that a piece needs to work in the space you have in mind. Though some artists are well established with various accolades behind them, the gallery is also good at supporting emerging talent, Justin Weeks and Mary Jane Ansell being good examples of this. The standard of this gallery is parallel to anywhere you'd find in London I highly recommend it.
