In broken french and broken english our guide tells us the history of geuze and the brewery while we taste our samples. Beer buffs ask advanced beer questions, non-sour beer lovers look terrified tasting the beer. Very promising... The tour continues, walking through the miniscule set up for brewing the belgian treasure Geuze, and the tour continues, and continues... Well, after a very long, cold and interesting tour, focussing on really interesting andecdotes, funny technical aspect of barrel making, mold, bacteria, yeast and the price of italian made storage tanks, we end up in the tasting room again. The belgian guide pours us beer after beer and we rejoice, stuffed with knowledge and sour beer. Since most of the other visitors have left we end up with the guide telling us even more stories . He also tells us that he actually don't work at the place, he is a volunteer that has devoted his life to the history of belgian beer, lambic and geuze, and is responsible for the part of the brewery that is a museum. Respect! Best spent EUR 9 ever.

The only problem is that because they bottle everything and mostly in 750 ml bottles, you either have to come with a bunch of friends, make a bunch of friends, be willing to pour out a terrifying amount of fantastic beer or only try a few things. There's a free tour of the barrel aging rooms most days if you ask. The Sunday I was there they opened at 1p and did the first tour at 2p, but the English tour wound up at 2:30p, which was all fine with me. I sat there and drank the fresh (flat) lambic, which was yummy but not as good as I'm used from 3F. I then moved onto the bottles where they have both recent and vintage/rare bottles to try. I had a few small bottles and fresh lambics on tap to myself and then met two other Americans and we shared 3-4 rare/vintage 750 ml bottles between us, which were amazing. My favorite was the Schaerbeek cherry kriek that was 10 years old. If you're in Brussels and like sour beers at all, I highly recommend the 20-minute train ride out on the S2 to come here. Just note the train only runs once an hour and there's a 7-minute walk once you're done.

We got a beer that we have also seen for a very long time too. It was the Delirium Tremmens which is a Belgian Strong Golden Ale which was pretty good. It didn't quite have the micro brew feel going on and had the feel of a larger mass produced brewery but it wasn't bad. Flavor characteristics with this beer are strong, sweet and some fruitiness going on. It's also strong tasting and light bodied. I am glad to have tried one of the beers from this brewery at long last!

It was originally a Kickstarter type project, hence the name. And most, if not all, if their beers are collabs with other brewers. The space is cool. Tons of seating in the back, and some in the front. The beers I had were good, but not amazing. I had the Eternity (cucumber and juniper sour), the Dark Sister (black IPA), and the #EXP 0027 (tropical session). They also do growlers, beers to go, and sell a ton of merch. The reason for the three stars, is the lack of any type of customer service. We arrived during business hours and the tap room was open. We passed three employees walking in and we said hello. We were the only two people in the tasting room except for an employee eating a salad at a table. One by one the outside employees walked in and went onto the production side, not saying a word. I'm thinking, "okay, it's probably not their job. Maybe this young lady eating the salad runs the tap room, and we happened to catch her at lunch." She finished her lunch and walked out without a word. Then as we sat there (and got up and walked around the tap room) for almost 25 minutes. Multiple people walked through the tap room ignoring us completely. After asking my wife if I should just pour us some beers and leave money on the counter she convinced me to stop a guy passing through and in broken French asked him if we could buy a few beers and a T-shirt. Once I asked, he was pleasant and helped us and we tried a few beers and took 6 home with us. Again the beer was great, but we both just had the feeling we weren't welcome, or perhaps being a bother. This was about, 4 months ago btw (October 25th, 2018)
