There is a small playground area and the put in bay sign to take pictures in front of. The campground takes up a majority of the park. It has tent spots along the lake and other spots with hook ups for campers. They even have several cabin style houses you can rent by the week. The campground has all the usual amenities of the state parks like shower houses and dump station. The roads are very tight and narrow. It can be difficult to park your camper in some spots so call ahead if unsure. They have a gate code to get into the campground. The shower houses had hot water but did smell funky because of the moisture. For the price though you can't be staying on the island. Easy to get to town on bikes or taking a taxi.

So many butterflies!…read more This was an option on our Perry's cave pass so we decided to give it a try. I have been in butterfly houses before but this one was definitely one of the best. You walk through the gift shop and the entrance to the butterfly house is in the back. It is a large greenhouse so on the day we went it was 95 degrees inside the building. About 5 to 10 degrees hotter than outside. Because of this we were only able to stay inside for 10 or 15 minutes because it was very hot. Upon entering there is a window that shows the butterfly hatching area. After that a greeter will fill you in on the rules of the butterfly house. After that you are welcome to walk around and explore the garden area. They have lots of plants to cater to butterflies and several water features. If you stand still the butterflies will land on you. Several benches are available to sit and enjoy the area. They also give you a great poster to identify the butterflies in the building. Not all of them are on the list but the greeter was very helpful and provided names for those we did not know. Great experience for any animal or nature lover!

Awesome area to explore…read more The village is the area with most of the shops, restaurants and bars. You can easily get here by taking the jet express and the area is easy to walk. There is a park in the center of everything that has bathrooms and showers. The park is a great place to hang out for all ages with a playground for kids, historical markers and picnic tables. Around the park is a variety restaurants, bars, and shops to explore. Everything from ice cream to tacos. Not far off the main section you can walk to the village beach, Perry's monument, winery, and the boardwalk.

This is another great National Parks site, and it has a wonderful location right in Put-in-Bay…read more There's a nice visitor's center with a great little exhibit space and a room where you can watch the site's 15 minute film that explains what happened in Perry's famous battle, the Battle of Lake Erie during the War of 1812, and why it was so important. The memorial is a nice walk from the center and requires paid timed tickets to enter and go to the top. It's open air once you get up there and, on a clear day, you can see miles around and get great views. The memorial itself is the largest Doric column in the world, and they had binoculars available to borrow at the top - with wipes to clean between uses. The rangers were friendly and very informative. We were also fortunate to see some costumed performers demonstrate how to use historic weapons - I think next time we'd ask in advance for the schedule, but the weapons are not quiet and caught our attention pretty quickly! Historical area This…read moreis a great area to walk around the lighthouse. There are historical markers around the property that tell you about highlights of the lighthouse. Gives you a glimpse into the history of the area. I don't believe you can tour the lighthouse and there is no staff to ask questions. Worth the 15 minutes to stop and check it out.

A quaint museum for a quaint island…read more LEIHS is a relatively unheralded attraction caught within the throng of bars and restaurants that are prevalent throughout Put-in-Bay. We only came across it at the mention of our host, who had a few panoramic photos that were currently being featured at the museum. The Historical Society Museum sits back along an alley just off Perry Park. Your entrance fee will buy you a short film regarding the island and as much time as you like to browse the tightly packed museum. Within its confines you will find some great memorabilia highlighting some of South Bass's most prestigious buildings, people, and events. A revealing look into the islands rich past.

Wonderful displays of the old South Bass Island show an exciting time in the 1900s. Photos of old…read morehotels, dance halls, steam ships, nautical items, beautiful glassware collections, photographs, info on the traveling dentist, etc. History depicting Commander Perry, and the War of 1812, including the Battle of Fallen Timbers is there. Even a working lighthouse light draws you in. A 15-minute video gives more history of the island. The museum is a great place and worth the nominal fee of admission.

Very clean facilities and well kept docks and picnic areas. Met Gail who was lawn blowing the docks! Getting rid of mayflies and goose poo. She was very nice to talk to and I appreciate the care she gave the socks to give visitors a great experience! They also have a small shop inside where you get your docking permit. Helpful in case you forgot anything. I even bought a decent pair of sunglasses at a good price! Great place to spend four nights!

There are campsites where you can set up your tent right on the shores of Lake Erie. The campground has a small rocky beach and latrines, that's about it. Across the street is the park's main office with showers, flushable toilets, supplies for sale, and activities to rent. The campground is only accessible by the Miller Ferry (or your own boat), and if you bring your car it can be a bit pricey ($23.50/each way) & you must make a reservation.
