I recommend you read the menus displayed outside before making your choice. The beau reallllly wanted to go to this place, so I gave in. I had the Kriek Max beer on draught, which was super refreshing. For dinner, we shared the Flemish stew, which was plenty of food for both of us to share. The dish came with a bowl of salad topped with a creamy dressing, and a side of fries. The fries were ordinary, and not seasoned, because it's meant to be smothered into the stew. The stew was classic dark, loaded with beef and slow-cooked mushrooms and carrots. The flavor was good, but not spectacular. It seemed like a good hearty stew to me, and went well with my juicy, tart beer. If I was to return to De Trompet, I would try a different dish... possibly one of their omelets.

The stew itself had plenty of beef in it as well as veggies. I originally was going to split a bottle of wine with a colleague, but they were out of that particular bordeaux so we both went with the house wine. The wine went well with the stew and it was good enough to have two glasses! Had I not been so full, I'm sure a third would have been in order. All in all I was very pleased and if I ever go back, I'm sure they will get my business again.
