Most things I've ordered here has been delicious. My favorite was the Pannenkoek De Stempel. My only gripe is the nachos. But that's not really fair to De Stempel since all of the Netherlands interprets Mexican food this way. read more

Dutch pancakes are a cross between a crepe and a type of pizza almost and can have all manner of toppings. We ordered a few savory ones to try and then a sweet one to split. Delicious! I must admit to being so overjoyed at the flavors that I almost forgot to take photos. They were crispy and full of mouth watering veggies, but also covered in cheese. Yum! I would highly recommend this spot and trying out the Dutch pancakes.

I had the bacon and apple pancake while my husband tried a savory everything pancake. His was scrumptious and I wished I had ordered his after trying a bite. So, there was a little something for everyone. We visited this restaurant over a year ago and vowed that we'd be back with our swim team and we were able to make it happen. The pancakes were quite tasty and enormous, the size of a large plate. Have been here twice and first time had a savory pancake with bacon and cheese which was good but would not recommend as a sole meal, maybe to share for a table as they are pretty heavy and a lil greasy. But the regular pancakes with cream and strawberries were absolutely delicious! Also have had the vegetable soup which was really nice but maybe lacking a bit of salt. There is a small market next door with some produce and home baked goods for a lil shopping.

I can imagine sitting outdoors in the summer time here would be beautiful. I got the carrot cake and hot chocolate with whipped cream to warm up. As with all the hot chocolate in this country, it was pretty tasty. The whipped cream comes on the site and was delectable. The carrot cake was also quite good; a little tough but had a nice citrus glaze on it. Far better than the overly-sweet cream cheese icing you often get. My friend had a traditional Dutch pancake and said it was very good, although I didn't try it (not a fan, myself, I've found). The seating is slightly awkward inside and the service was rather slow for being fairly empty. The waitress was very sweet though. I would come back here in the summer time to get outdoor seating and enjoy a cold drink, definitely a quaint spot on the canal with decent snack and desert food.

My great friend and I were in Utrecht for a couple of days and decided to rent bikes and join the crowd and bike all around town. I had heard of this legendary pancake house in the woods and after a little bit of research realized it would make the perfect bike excursion for the two of us. So, we got all fitted and fixed up on our rental bikes and wearing NO helmets, started GPSing our way out of downtown, headed for the Theehuis Rhijnauwen. It wasn't too bad getting to the entrance to the forest, only a few close scrapes, but once we crossed over, we were biking in the open air with the most beautiful green spaces surrounding us. The rest of the ride was pretty fantastic. We saw friends biking in parallel sync, chatting away, and only wished that I was able to master my bicycle enough to do that too. Anyway, we arrived soon enough and found a spot to lock up our bikes. The place was hopping, but we got a table outside pretty easily. We were looking out on the greenest grassy field with two mini donkeys prancing around on a grassy knoll. The ONLY downside was that I had pre-ordered a tea service for the two of us, which was not great food-wise. I watched so many plates of big pancakes pass by longingly. Our tea service food was a lot of ok sweets and some salami, and then more sweets. Oof. On the other hand, there was no way I was going to let the disappointment of the food ruin the overall magic. Every time I looked over at one of those mini Dutch donkeys prancing around, they winked right back at me.
