I understand that age can be a factor, but if this was in any way an hourly-based service or if time affected the cost, then the pace of the appointment made the experience even more frustrating. For the amount I paid, I expected someone who could work efficiently and competently. I came prepared with my information clearly organized and laid out for her, yet there was still a noticeable lack of direction and confidence in handling my returns. I raised specific issues such as my home office, a separate physical office, gas mileage, and other business expenses, and there was very little guidance or meaningful effort to explore whether those deductions applied to my situation. Instead, I was repeatedly told that she "tried her best," but that is not the level of service I expected when paying a professional to prepare my taxes. What made the experience even more frustrating is that one of my returns cost more than the other, even though I had provided the same level of organized information for both. Nothing about the way I presented my documents suggested that one should have required significantly more effort than the other, so the price difference felt unexplained and unfair. More broadly, the pricing in general was not clearly communicated to me during the process, which made the final total even more upsetting. For a service like this, I should have been told upfront what I was being charged for and why. To make matters worse, I ended up owing the IRS thousands of dollars. I had to be contacted afterward for my IRS PIN in order to submit the return, which felt like yet another example of carelessness and lack of preparation. That is the kind of information that should have been addressed during the appointment, not chased down later after the fact. What was especially upsetting is that Shirley never mentioned that filing late could lead to penalties or fees. That was an important detail, and it should have been clearly explained to me during the preparation process. Then, three months later, I received a bill from the IRS in the mail for a late filing penalty. That was not a minor oversight. It was exactly the kind of consequence I went to a tax professional to avoid or at least be warned about in advance. To make matters worse, I later found that I got a better result using tax software on my own than I did with the return prepared during my appointment, even though I still owed. That made it even harder to justify paying $410 for professional preparation when I could have gotten a better outcome myself. Over the years of owning different businesses, we have used a few accounting firms. None worse than this Debbie. We came fully prepared for our 2023 tax return. After the initial rushed and sloppy first meeting, we were assured the taxes would be completed and filed within 2 days as we had provided everything she needed. (rushing wasn't necessary, thank goodness) We were then jerked around for weeks, both in person and on the phone. To the point of her staff telling us she "wasn't in" when we could hear her talking to another client in her small messy office. Then we were told our 3 year old S Corp didn't exist and she would need to revise the tax return she had already filed...if we got any guff from IRS. WTF??? Debbie? UPDATE: I'm changing my 1 star to 3 stars since originally posting this review. I talked to Selma, who was very apologetic and acknowledged that everything that could have gone wrong with my experience did go wrong and said that Debbie's Accounting will provide a full refund. ORIGINAL: I had a truly terrible experience working with Debbie's Accounting Service. I was scheduled to have a phone appointment with Nick, who never called me. I called their office to find out what was going on--they said he was running behind and that he would call me soon. He never did. I called back the next day and they scheduled me with Debbie, even though I specifically asked for Nick. Debbie did my taxes and took my payment over the phone. A few days later she emailed me saying that I never paid, so I sent her my credit card info over email. Several months later, I am getting calls from her office saying that I never paid. So I give them my credit card info AGAIN, for the third time. Then I realize that my state taxes haven't gone through. I call them and let them know--they tell me to give the state more time, as they're probably just running behind. Now, in November, I get a letter from the state comptroller saying that I never paid my state taxes, and now I owe extra because it's so late. What a nightmare. I wish I had done my own taxes online like I have every other year as this cost me so much more time, money, and effort. I will never work with Debbie's Accounting Service again. read more

At first things seemed to be great, but I have been emailing every few months asking if my books have been reconciled. Each time I emailed, they assured me that for each quarter this year, everything was reconciled. It's now October, and I had someone else take a look at my books to discover that NOTHING has been done since December 2022. I am not sure why Trey and Natalia did not understand what I was asking since this is what they do for a living. 1 Star - Called to make an appointment and they were booked until 35 days later (march 24th). Only available was a 10am on a weekday. I was told someone would call in between to get the documents together. No call till day prior to confirm scheduling. Ran late day of and was going to be 30-40 min later, so called ahead and was told to reschedule. The soonest available was after the deadline, in may. So my review is a 1 star, I feel like this company is just a cash grab, fill a form out for you, and send it. No matter how good the service may be it is not worth the hassle this company obviously does not want to help you. My recommendation is pass on them and find an accountant willing to help you, my situation is complicated I explained that over the phone when scheduling and still no help when scheduling the first time. My recommendation is pass on it and find a business that will help you. Rather than constrain your life into fitting into their schedule. Hard pass on any recommendation find some place else.Or just use TurboTax. read more

I visited Debbies accounting firm to prepare an amended tax return for a previous tax year. I was told to acquire from the IRS my past tax transcripts to ensure all income was verified and properly accounted for. Two days later, I receive an email stating Debbies accounting now wanted to perform additional bookkeeping services to verify past expenses. All my expenses were documented but this request to provide expense documentation from Debbies accounting was never requested from me so she could finalize and verify the amended return. Instead of asking for me simply to provide my balance sheets with backup, Debbie went ahead and stated my expenses would be surely overstated without even asking for my backup and balance sheets. Instead, she wanted me to hire her firm to perform bookkeeping of documentation that was already completed. This was not only inappropriate to suggest something was wrong, she never asked for anything but IRS transcripts. She makes brazen statements without asking for documents to back up the expenses. Debbie wanted excessive work for no reason and questioned my integrity along with making false accusations so she could garner more work. I would not recommend her services to anyone and will not be doing any further business with her firm. Debbies accounting wanted to attain as much as they can out of you for billing purposes without actually asking questions. She completely missed the mark in simply asking for backup documents, but instead was greedy and wanted additional unnecessary accounting services that would be completely unnecessary. Be warned and careful with how they might handle your returns. It was crystal clear, Debbies Accounting was trying to get as much as they could out of me for filing a simple amended return. I hate to leave a bad review but my consultation left a bad taste in my mouth. I was referred by a relative who used to help fix their taxes and I called for the same. I requested the same person who helped my relative since our situations was similar and that person was Debbie herself. I had to wait over a month for a phone appointment. I emailed all requests docs and they were good a follow up to make sure that they had all docs for the appointment. When the appointment arrived, Debbie was ..... something. I didn't need her to be my friend and be honest but she took being blunt to another level. She basically kept telling my taxes were bad and I would owe, which I was aware of since I was seeking her help. She just kept on this tangent and it made me uncomfortable because the way she was talking, she was going to do more damage than help and I'm a student. I explained everything, answered her questions and she was just extra. In the end, she told me she would call me back that night with the adjustments and cost for her services and my taxes. I never heard from her. Not later that night, the next day, let alone week. That's bad business especially when I needed your assistance and I waited for over a month and she's the business owner. If you didn't think I wanted to use your services, be up front and say so, instead of no contact. Come to find out she wasn't the person who assisted my relative, who I could have had an earlier appointment with instead of waiting. My In laws have been coming here to do their taxes for years when they used to run their own company. I have a small business I run out of my home and so we decided to come here also. At first I was not prepared like I should have been so we weren't able to finish filing. I called and was able to give my missing information over the phone and via email. Everything worked out wonderful! Their prices are very competitive but they are also very busy at tax season. You really need to make an appointment to come in. I alway do my taxes for my family and this year I thought that we see if an expert could possible get us back more than I do each year. We went to see Debbie and she was eating when we she called us into her office and then she took a phone call on her cell phone and it was another client of hers that she put on speaker phone in front of myself and my husband, she asked a lot of personal questions about this man that she was talking to on her cell phone on speaker right in front of us. She filed our federal 1040 form that I file on my own every year. She refused to look at any of my deductions and filed it with a standard deduction which was 849 dollars less than the itemized deduction because she was running behind and she had a waiting room full of clients to see so she rushed us through the 1040 form.  she then started our out of state taxes, where she put in the wrong county code and failed to add together two lines and then carry that a number over so  we ended up owing that state $395 when in all reality we should have got $160 return from that state she is the worst tax accountant I've ever seen in my entire life do not go see her she cost us $849 less in our 1040 form and she made it to where we had to pay $395 to another state even though we were not residents of that state! Debbie wasted my time, my patience, and worse or all my money! When I called to tell her about what she had done she acted like it was no big deal and she didn't even offer me a refund for what I paid her that she didn't do! Debbie is not professional or even accurate! I also never saw her CPA or her diploma from whatever school she says she went to! Save your money and time and just use TurboTax at least they ask the right questions and add  everything correctly and TurboTax will not share your personal information with whoever happens to be in her office at the time! read more
