We have purchased pavers in memory of lost beloved Veterans and the process is easy and the people are very professional and prompt. One purchased recently should be installed by the 4th of July. When you order one you get the option of having a certificate mailed to the family of the honored Veteran. I highly recommend this. The certificate is of good quality and comes with a brochure of the memorial and I think, the general location where the brick will be. So happy my hometown honors our beloved Veterans and our great nation with this memorial. There is a lot to see here, so you can stay and learn and walk through all the displays or just get the main gist where the flags and the fountain are. Do check it out - you won't be sorry!

Main Street is surrounded by unique 1800s period architecture including homes on Church Street. The gazebo and surrounding historical markers on Main Street are worth a stop, albeit brief, to check out! I agree with yelper John M.'s review! And, honestly, one can drive right by Main Street Madison, AL without noticing it. Since the Town Madison development has come into play, the area around the Toyota Stadium now offers many entertainment, dining, and housing options and is considered "Madison" also. Of course, Town Madison does not have the old school charm and coziness of Main Street, Madison.

There is a small pull over area and the marker so you can stop and read about it. It was erected in 2000 and reads, "The restorative qualities of the mineral springs here attracted settlement in the early 1800s. Variously known as Chunn Springs (after Lancelot Chunn) and Manning Springs (after Robert Manning), the spot was named for early developers of the resort where a hotel and surrounding cabins were erected between 1818 and 1823. By 1834, when the first post office was established, it was called White Sulphur Springs. Jean Joseph Giers acquired the hotel and surrounding property in 1856, renaming it "Valhermoso Springs." Into the 20th century, travelers from all over the world came to the hotel and springs seeking relief from rheumatism, insomnia, consumption, and ailments of the skin, kidneys, stomach, and liver. The hotel closed in the 1920s and was destroyed by tornado in 1950."

I wanted to a. renew my driver's license and b. remove my organ donor status. I assumed the organ donor status change would involve some paperwork. I checked online and did not see any. Off I went to the Annex, and within 5 minutes, I had the organ donor status changed to non-donor, my new temporary driver's license printed out, and new photo made for my driver's license. And the lady working the counter was beyond kind and courteous! All these great experiences at the Limestone County Courthouse/Annex have nearly erased my bad memories of Madison County Courthouse. All courthouses could take serious notes from the manner Limestone County operates - professionally, kindly, and expeditiously!

Built for the von Braun family in 1958, he and his family moved to DC in 1970 and the Space and Rocket Center bought it in 1970. It's been owned by two families since. My sister and I drove to it last Monday and really enjoy the quick peek we got of it from the street. It is a mid-century modern, 2,633 square-foot house with a breathtaking combination of its original vogue and modern updates that respect its late 1950s design. But this is the Morgan County Archives which houses huge tomes of records, genealogical papers and a most interesting display (with original documents/photos) of the Scottsboro trial. I initially went in to ask about the Garth cemetery which lies untended in the thickets behind Rose Lawn Cemetery and had a fascinating conversation with John Allison, their archivist who gave me a more detailed study of the families buried there. One of the more interesting things displayed on the first floor was original documents, court papers and photos of the Scottsboro trial where eight young African American men were put on trial for raping two white women (One later recanted her story). I have seen a documentary on this farce of a trial and it was intriguing reading excerpts from the actual trial. Upstairs on the third floor is a conference room/museum that Mr. Allison is working on. It has a confederate soldiers complete uniform, WWII uniforms and military items donated, household utensils, several weaving looms, old cameras and office machines. This is definitely a hidden gem in the Old Decatur section and worth stopping by. They normally open around 8 a.m. but are closed on holidays.

Totally worth the drive than having to wait a couple hours or half a day at the local HSV office. If you don't know about the REAL ID Act... Effective January 22, 2018, air travelers with a driver's license or identification card issued by a state that does not meet the requirements of the REAL ID Act (unless that state has been granted an extension to comply with the Act) must present an alternative form of identification acceptable to TSA in order to board a commercial domestic flight. Over the next two years, those states that are not REAL ID compliant are strongly encouraged to meet the requirements of the law for the benefit of their residents. Upon successfully getting through the metal detectors on the 1st floor, the license office is forward and to your left, then the first door on RT. Be prepared to read a lot of signs, but don't fret. You're in the right place. ;D There will be a screen to check-in at to obtain a # specific to your visit. STAR*IDs (whether drivers license or non-driving ID) are on the 1st floor in that office where one gets their #. DL renewals are on 2nd floor. Appointments are recommended, but who wants to wait 2-3 weeks out, right?! Came in here recently to get a STAR*ID drivers license since I lost mine, and was quite pleased w my experience. From the officers at the front scanning machine / metal detectors to the worker (Michelle B.) who assisted me, all were genuinely kind and respectful! If you present yourself w respect & kindness to others, it'll be mirrored back to you here. Though don't take kindness as naive or weakness. They're tough cookies here yet respectful. Gotta love when you come across kind government workers. They're far and few, especially in SoCal. Lol. Anywho, if you had to choose between HSV and Decatur, I totally recommend getting your necessary documents done here. I was in @ 9:02a, seen @ 10:20a, and out the door w a new STAR*ID DL at 10:35a! Thanks Michelle B. for being quick, efficient, hospitable, and kind!! While the waiting room was tight, bring your patience for those around you, maybe even a book or a juiced up mobile phone (ringer off), and lots of grace and mercy for the irritable and disrespectful kid w their tiresome parent. Last but not least, be sure to leave your firearms, knives, and such weapons in the car, or risk having the metal detector go off. Lesson learned. Yikes! Had to go back out and secure mine in the car. The officers were super kind about it, I think surprised too. Lol.
