Our wooden deck was in need of new stain, new paint and new boards. Every year I stained the floorboards and washed the white railings. I really hate to do this as I have never written a negative review. But I am very unhappy with our finished product. We hired Deck Buddy to do some repairs on our front porch, and the work was done shotty. It was supposed to be a 1 day project and they ended up coming out 3 different days to fix different items. They were very communicative and friendly, but the work was just not done well. First off, we were recommended column wraps that were too big and hung out from the front of the porch outside of the roof. Luckily I was home and caught it, but unfortunately after they already cut 2 pieces. So we paid for the 3 pieces that were the wrong size, and then also the correct ones. Then the railings we previously had wouldn't fit, so we ended up having to purchase all new railings. This doubled the price of the project. After several calls with the foreman and owner (who did try to fix it) it was just never done correctly. We were left with a product that we are completely not satisfied with and were told that we essentially got what we paid for. Like I said, very nice and communicative up front. Very happy with the service we got from Deck Buddy. We opted not to stain our deck at this time and went for a power wash and had some planks replaced for a good price. My neighbors were impressed with how thorough they were with the powerwashing (it took several hours).The planks were replaced on a different visit and they did a great job there as well. Because of COVID-19 they were careful not to walk through the house and accessed the deck by using a ladder (we don't have stairs). I really hate to do a bad review: but you left me with no choice. I gave you (the company) ever chance to fix the problem and you refuse to do so. At first I was glad to hire you, but at the end I was totally disappointed. Initially they did a good job and responded on any area that needed attention. So, when it came time for the final payment; even though the work was not completed, I went on and made the final payment. Once the payment was done and the check cleared the bank, that relation ended. There were issues with the workmanship on the patio. He did return once to fix the issue; but it was not fixed. I called him a third time to inform him that original problem still exists and need to be fix. He (Doru Pricope) refuse to fix the problem; even though my contract had a "workmanship" clause in it. He said he came out once and will not come out again. He said that he is not making any money by sending the worker back out. He went on to say; if I did not like the work, then hire another contractor. At this time, I asked for my money back that I paid for the patio. Again, he refused. My lesson learned here is not to hire this company again and never make the final payment until you are completely satisfied. I did call the DA's office, the Warrenton Police and a lawyer; it was recommended to take him to court. All of the costs for court outweighed the monies I lost on the patio. I have a deck made of a mix of older wood and newer composite, where the old deck posts were in various states of rot. The first estimate I received, from a different company, was convinced I would have to replace the entire deck and could not re-use the newer composite decking. Deck Buddy came out, did there inspection and found no issues with simply replacing the rotting posts and deck beam. They even commented that when the newer composite decking, joists, and flashing were all good and up to code. Deck Buddy gave me a great quote to make the necessary repairs and I accepted on the spot and paid 50% up front. Due to their schedule and recent weather, they informed me it would take about 3 weeks before they could start. Three weeks later we ran into some weather issues again, to include a tornado watch, and Deck Buddy contacted me to let me know they would have to push back a couple of days. Another company advised our deck rails and support posts would likely be rotten underneath the handrails we wanted replaced. They estimated an entire deck rebuild at $30-40k. We had a second estimate from Deck Buddy and were able to get the repairs we needed within our budget and found we did not have the level of rot that the first company implied we had. Deck Buddy was communicative throughout. We had some damaged wood pieces uncovered during the process. The damaged pieces were shown to us and the additional prices were reasonable. We appreciated them doing the extra work and having the job done right. We did have some items that we asked to be fine-tuned at the end. Those were remedied without question. Deck Buddy was fantastic!! Doru, the business owner contacted me right away after I submitted an online estimate request to repair and restain my 30 year old deck. Within one day, he came over and did the estimate himself, identifying damaged boards which needed to be replaced and stability/safety issues with the deck railings. He walked me through the entire process, answering all my questions along the way. He assured me that he would be working on the deck himself. His estimate was fair and affordable and although he gave me a tentative schedule of a month out before work could begin, he was able to start the project earlier (two weeks ahead of schedule) and finished within a few days, despite the bad weather. Doru was a trooper, even with a near 100 degree heat index, he worked 12 hour days, determined to finish on time. Doru Pricope came to my home to do an estimate. First off, he's measuring up the side of my vinyl siding home with a rolling tool and then wondering why he's not getting a correct measurement (obviously you aren't rolling it on a flat surface). I grabbed my tape measure and showed him. Next, he started calculating measurements like number of risers and how long the staircase for the deck would be (this was important because I wanted a portion of the staircase to run along the deck, which meant this would dictate deck width). I asked him how wide each step would be and he told me 11 inches. I calculated the length the staircase would be on my own because I was quickly understanding that this guy just used a generic app to do his calculations and doesn't understand how they get there. So when he told me the length would be smaller than I estimated I tried to understand further. I asked again how wide was each step and he told me 4 feet. I was trying to get the run distance so I rephrased saying how long would each step be. He said he didn't understand. I told him, "look, you have rise and run, what is the run?" He then told me 10 inches. I said that wasn't what he told me earlier and he grabbed his stuff and said "I don't take this kind of stuff from my customers. You get your own contractor license and build your own deck." This guy doesn't know what he's doing. Be aware. read more
