Elizabeth calls itself a home and garden store, but it's a store you stop by when you have your…read moregarden essentials from other places and want to add extras in the way of decorative items. Most things seem too nice for outdoors, so perhaps they're more for an indoor garden room. Either that or I totally misunderstand the garden part of home and garden. It is a good store to find a nice gift, with the small statues of every kind, clocks, mirrors, pictures, wrought-iron wall ornaments, and even some personal items, like jewelry, scarves and handbags. In the back room is the most beautiful log cabin dollhouse that I've seen in some time. Elizabeth's is a relaxed store, where they've kept the feel of the house. There are two small rooms on the first floor and a larger room with the larger items, upstairs. Despite the limited space, there's still a light feel. In my visits to Elizabeth's there's been something new to see. Certain things are moved to another area, displayed in a different way, giving it a fresh look. The owners seem to have a great deal of retail experience that shows in how they treat their customers and in their down-to-earth attitude -- especially noticeable during the holiday rush shortly after they opened.

Streets of London Antiques - Beautiful decor for all tastes and styles

All I can say is "wow". I've driven by Streets of London for months, always meaning to stop in…read more This place is amazing if you're in the market for antiques from Europe (or from early America) circa 18th, 19th, and early 20th centuries. I've been searching for some smaller pieces for my downsized abode and haven't been too enamored of one store, yet. That may change now that I've seen what Streets of London has available. SLA carries some beautiful Georgian, Victorian, Edwardian, and early American furniture, some with the most exquisite carvings. They truly are works of art. There was a mirrored Victorian organ, a French mirrored armoire, and a 1940s era silk embroidered sofa, that I could not stop staring at. And for the sofa, I know I'd be sitting on the floor in front of it, admiring the detailing; probably defeating the purpose of having something that nice. There isn't just furniture here, either. For whatever period, there's art, lithographs, bed frames -- brass and wood, glass punch bowls, silver tureens, china, and tea services. One silver tea service was the type with the pot on a hinged device where it could be tipped for pouring without having to be picked up. That was the first time I've seen one of those up close. Although I was completely stunned at how many gorgeous pieces I saw, most of them were far too big for my available space. That's where the owner, Gill, came to my rescue. She told me the smaller pieces were always the first to be sold, but she was expecting another shipment later this year. As she's trying to sell down her inventory in advance of the new shipment, she tempted me sorely by telling me she may be willing to deal on some of the existing inventory. I now have a reason to go back besides just for a visual treat in the genre of wood. Until then, if there's any way I can make that organ or sofa fit . . . where did I put that measuring tape and yardstick. . . .

One very kind worker even walked around with my wife looking for a particular plant before realizing they didn't have it. Additionally, they have a wide selection of pots and gardening tools. They also have a better pottery/pot selection than many local nurseries. Their Giant Calla Lilies are actually fairly priced considering how long it takes for those to size up and flower well. That said, prices in general are quite high, which would be easier to justify if the plant quality and expertise consistently matched the premium pricing. Plant health is usually pretty good overall, but I have still come across plants that were not especially healthy despite commanding top-tier prices, which is disappointing at those price points. The staff knowledge also feels fairly average overall. I once had an employee confidently tell me that Red Maples do not grow well near intermittent creeks, which was surprising considering Red Maples are commonly found in wet areas throughout much of the Southeast and are even nicknamed "swamp maple." Their Japanese Maples are also definitely overpriced considering you can get similarly sized specimens locally for much less, including at places like Get Rooted, which also has an excellent selection. Overall, the nursery is still worth visiting because the selection really is broad and varied. I just wish the pricing better reflected the average level of expertise and occasional inconsistencies in plant quality.
