Avocado on toast with poached eggs
    Lani P.

A Recipe for Suburban Cafes 2014 Ingredients: 1 x decent coffee blend. In this instance, Uncle Joe's 1 x convenient location 1 x mix of accessible, family-friendly, classic food menu (think eggs, bacon, avocado on toast and a selection of cakes) 1 x funky fit-out with a pinch of kitsch for good measure Method: Take all ingredients and blend well. Open with a team of friendly faces and watch as eager locals take residence at your tables. That added dash of high-chairs and faux grass for kids worked a treat at making a welcoming space for Mums catching up. I visited Deedot Coffee House after reading several rave reviews by my fellow Yelpers, and the experience didn't stray from their accounts of their own visits. For me, it's just what the 3-stars says, "A-Ok" I arrived mid-morning to a bustling cafe - a mix of mums, bubs and groups of young teens enjoying morning tea. The menu is concise and bonus points for them offering an all-day breakfast. That said, don't visit expecting out-of-the-box breakfasts. It's a classic eggs, bacon and avo on toast affair. All in all, I'd pop by Deedot again. It's a great addition to that side of town and further proof of Brisbane flourishing in the suburbs!

    'Stacks on'... Delish!

The DIY coffee was super cute when it came out and was actually really great coffee! 'STACKS ON' was amazing! Will defs be back!

Good food and mismatching cups and saucers :)

A slice of West End in Brisbane's South-East! Picture this: you're greeted by a smiley (but not creepy) waitress. She invites you to sit at a cute table suited to your needs (high chairs for kids, long table for groups, two-seater tables snugged up near the wall - whatever you need hey!). One look at the menu and your mouth waters. Then boom! They serve your AMAZING breakfast on a wooden chopping board #ontrend SO. GOOD. The mochas are good too. I will definitely be back :) My photos say it all *drools* Oh and they also had some Dean Martin music playing. Good vibes complete!

    Vegetarian Breakfast

Deedot has just became one of my breakfast faves. Cute layout, super friendly staff and amazing food. I had the vegetarian breakfast, accompanied by a Lemongrass and Ginger iced tea, great value and everything on the plate was delicious!

    Street view.

A place packed to the rafters is good indicator on what's installed, having said that, we did find a seat very quickly . Service was quick and friendly , and breakfast was fantastic . We ordered the smashed avo with poached eggs and halomi on Turkish bread, also the traditional eggs Benedict .

Bacon eggs benedict. Bit disappointed. 2 large peices of bread (on top of each other?) not enough hollandaise.

The baristas are exceptionally skilled, and there is a selection of roasts to choose from. While I normally like my coffee black, something that isn't too hard to make, I've had a few flat whites from Penny which have been excellent. A friend of mine asked if they're able to pull a piccolo using soy milk, without the milk splitting. Despite indicating that the barista don't need to try if they haven't made one before, they produced one (after two failed attempts) by slowly adjusting the extraction to the point where they could add a shot to soy milk without producing soy cheese. Doing this despite explicitly not needing to is the sort of above and beyond that earns long-term customers. The food is similarly stellar. The avo on sourdough may at first blush seem like a pricier version of what everyone else is doing. The flavours in Penny's version are, however, inventive and balanced to a point I haven't had elsewhere. There's a nice balance between the feta, dukkah and pomegranate where you can taste all of them without one overpowering the other. The vegetabowl is similarly great. There's just enough of each ingredient that you can taste them, without the dish being overpowered by one note. Penny's interior makes maximal use of the space. There are comfortably sized tables out front and inside, and some bar seating by the espresso machine. The best seats in the house, though, are out back, and include a few longer tables. The staff at Penny are attentive, friendly and great at pulling a coffee and making food.

The Jam Pantry, in Greenslopes, is their newest venture and could be considered a more polished and grown up Comfort. The country-cottage chic design is still there but it's more refined (hello beautiful wallpapered back room for group dining!) as is the menu. There's old favourites including Nims' Eggs but then there's the specials board. And this is where Nims' shines. French toast with raspberry ripples, Tomato and Strawberry soup, Cous Cous cereal with coconut yoghurt, confit salmon, and a few other treats sure to leave you considering a two or three course breakfast or brunch, or at the very least plotting your immediate return. We dined here early on a Thursday morning in their first week of trade. Service was top-notch, attentive and being asked just what I meant by "iced long black" was a welcome question to ensure my coffee was a rousing success. To be fair, there were only a handful of diners while we were there but I'm confident even during the busy weekend periods, brunch hunters wouldn't be waiting too long for meals. My Zucchini and Cumin fritters with bacon, beetroot relish (able to be purchased in-house alongside Nims' other preserves, jams and relishes), garlic yoghurt and poached eggs were much larger than I'd expected and finishing them became quite the mission whilst chatting away to my dining companion. Served in a bowl, it was liking digging for hidden treasure as I made my way down to the fritters - soft, pillowy and light. There was a moment of ordering regret upon seeing my friend's french toast! The best thing it's the type of cafe you can take a paramour, your girlfriends, or your Mum. It's just like going home!
