The Deep Bay Marine Field Station supports both pure and applied coastal and marine research activities related to sustainable shellfish aquaculture development, preservation of coastal ecosystems, and inter-disciplinary projects involving local communities.
In addition to doing actual science, the University also opens up the Field Station to the public so that folks can become better informed about important issues related to the sustainability of coastal communities.
This isn't necessarily a destination facility where you can spend a whole day. But it is worth an hour or so of your time, and of your kids' time too. And the very reasonable entry fee supports a great cause and effort.
The spectacular setting and very cool biosphere-like architecture are also worth the visit, even if you don't go inside. But please do go inside.
