I would strongly caution anyone considering Deerbrook Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation for a loved one. During my mother-in-law's stay, our family experienced repeated failures in communication, lack of proper medical notification, poor wound care, untreated infections, and an overall disregard for her dignity and safety. She ultimately developed a Stage 4 bedsore, sepsis, multiple infections, and was hospitalized after serious issues that we believe should never have been allowed to progress to that level. Questions from family members were often met with hostility or dismissal, and the facility consistently smelled strongly of urine. After transferring her to another facility, the difference in cleanliness, staff professionalism, communication, and quality of care was immediate and heartbreaking to compare. No family should have to experience what ours did at Deerbrook. read more

Horrible, horrible, horrible. Made my mother's passing harder and more difficult than it had to be in every way. It was so bad that we complained to the State about the low standards of care. They straight lied to our faces. When my mother had to wait more than an hour for them to even see why she was calling for assistance, they said, "we have other patients." No concern. She could have been in pain, on the floor, anything, but they couldn't be bothered to stick a head in the door to see if she was in crisis. We left her alone one night to return in the morning, finding her confused, with no water, and covered in feces because no one had checked on her for God knows how long. They were good years ago, but the quality has plummeted. read more

I will say this place should be investated for nelegect my friend was here and they left him in bed with just a diaper with no sheets no blankets for two days and he told us they was rough with him to the point he refuse us to bring him back inside he has bruises on him for someone that can't walk shouldn't have they wasn't even giving the mouth swabs to wash his mouth out bc he has a feeding tube and can't eat are drink his mouth was full of crust when we left they didn't even give him his meds like they was suppose to they're was patients yelling for nurses and no one went to check on them and the nurses would be sitting at desk on phones watching videos and they are very rude and unprofessional I can't believe half of what I saw if you are thinking of this place don't do it and if you have a love one there go get them they're not safe ... read more

This place is the worst at customer service and patient handling. The nurse took my dads phon without his permission, threw water on him, and elbowed him in his face by accident supposedly. Also one nurse told my dad whos 83 and stage 4 prostate cancer that shed have her husband come and beat his ass...unbelievable they are in business. Truly unprofessional and threating to assualt an elderly man is out of pocket. I wish i knew who to call to sue this place...very upset at the way we were treated. read more

My mom has been at this place for 2 days now. I have been up there both days. Going back tomorrow because they won't give her her pain medication. They gave it to her one time this morning cause I was there raising cane with the her LVN. There are no RN's to be found!!! LVNs are not suppose to be able to give medications especially narcotics!!! They left my mother in her own urine from 7am till I got there at 10am and I changed her!!! When I was there I could her a man and a woman yelling for help and no one did anything for them! My mother says a couple of people yelled all night for help! I never thought a place sooo bad as this one could ever exist! Boy was I wrong!! I can't even imagine what's going to happen tonight and tomorrow morning before I get back there!!! I am looking for other places to take my mom to. I can't leave her there any longer!! If those people that work there think the Good Lord doesn't see what they're doing they will be Judged come judgment day as they stand before God!!!! read more

The Administrator they have there now is the worst person l've ever met. She's unconcern and have no compassion for your Love ones. I recently had my wife there at Deerbrook Skilled Nursing in Humble, Texas and I want to start off by telling anyone reading this to stay as far away from this facility as you can keep your loved one. My wife has Dementia and when first placed there she was place in a room with another Dementia resident but within a matter of days was moved to another room. Then the medication started, or I should say over medication started and my wife was so over medicated she could not hardly talk but that gave the people of Deerbrook total control over my wife. I have filed a verbal abuse complaint against one of the nurses with the Houston Police department, which I personally heard, and the officer I talked to told me this was not the first complaint of this type they had investigated at this place. I have moved my wife from this place but let me say again, the management of this place, in my opinion, does not care about the residence and the director of Deerbrook is far to busy on the phone and holding meetings to know what is happening to the residence. Stay away from this horrific place! read more

The only thing you 'strive to deliver' is proving your staff doesn't know or care about the patients at your facility. The fact that you did not realize your mistake until much later, after putting a woman through the emotional turmoil of believing her husband was dead and going to the hospital to identify his body. That's when you realized your error, BUT HER HUSBAND WAS ALIVE AT YOUR FACILITY THE ENTIRE TIME AND NOBODY NOTICED UNTIL THE WIFE COULDN'T IDENTIFY THE BODY??????? AND YOU HAVE THE AUDACITY TO PUT THAT CRAP ABOUT STRIVING AND CARING AND BULL$HIT? THE ONLY THING YOU SHOULD HAVE POSTED WAS A SINCERE APOLOGY TO THE FAMILY AND YOU'LL 'STRIVE' TO DO BETTER. I absolutely love this facility!!! They took amazing care of my father in law after his hip replacement. The team of nurses and aides that work on 200 hall were awesome at ensuring that every need he had was met. The front office staff was great as well with communicating information in regards to his discharge. Everyone is super friendly and always smiling and that's EXACTLY what the patients need to see. I would recommend this facility to anyone who has a family member in need of skilled or long term care. read more

Very pretty building, but soooo many problems. Keep in mind, the only RNs in the building work in administration and do no quality checks on the staff or treat any of the patients. LVNs and CNAs run the show. That would be okay if they were all consistently good, but many were defensive, slow, not very skilled, and too often 'forgetful'. Head nurses were hard to find and administrative family reviews were nearly fruitless. We often found our mother with food from her feeding tube in her hair or in her bed because they "forgot" to reattach it. You hire staff that might forget once, but not repeatedly. Because of a stroke, she was not able to swallow. After a few months, the Speech Pathologist thought she had improved and could swallow puree. They did not order a swallow test to confirm and a couple months later, we learn she was silently aspirating and actually had only progressed to a severely delayed swallow. So, she should never have been getting food. We liked the Speech Pathologist a lot, but that shouldn't have happened. She had a new onset cough her last week there, but was only given a couple doses of Robitussin. I am a Physician Assistant and a new cough in a nursing home patient basically requires an xray. When our mother started to look clammy and did not want to get out of bed for 2 days, we had to go to the head of nursing to inquire, who didn't even TOUCH her, but said annoyed, "I'll ask the doc to order one if you want." Thank goodness, because she had Aspiration Pneumonia and needed to go to the hospital. They don't always use the fancy shower they have. More often than not, the patients are getting bed baths and her last week there, she began to smell SOOO bad because she had not had a REAL bath in a week. She gets her bath and when she's done it's the same time they realize she had pneumonia and we want her sent to the hospital. When we arrive she is nearly sopping wet in her gown from the shower in her bed...they didn't even dry her off and she had pneumonia!! PT - would lift her up by her shorts which really hurt her. This is not a good way to lift a heavy patient. She had left-sided paralysis from a hemorrhagic stroke and got drop foot and a very tight shoulder. They wanted her to be able to stand but did very little range of motion and didn't get a boot on her foot. So, they dropped her from PT because she plateaued when really they made her plateau. Her insurance required weekly progress, but shouldn't you continue care so that she doesn't deteriorate? 5 months out of a hemorrhagic stroke where the patient can't even move their leg and you expect them to want to stand for you when you have done nothing to make it less scary or painful? They said they would work with her again if she improved, but how is she going to improve if she just sits in her bed?? Who would even notice? Some of the CNAs and therapy staff worked really hard, but OVERALL, some key mistakes and problems occurred or were not addressed. We just felt like if we raised any concerns, our mother payed for it. We felt like the longer she stayed the more she was neglected. I would not recommend this place primarily because MOST of the staff is not as attentive or responsive as you would like for a not so full facility. If your loved one needs aggressive care, this is not the right place. read more

I want to make you aware of what was happening that location while my mother reside there. The nursing staff were being abusive towards her, they dropped her on the floor (the staff didn't want to use the hoilift, so they tried to move her manually), they gave her to much blood pressure medication, not to mention someone stole her cell phone while she was there, and if all that wasnt bad enough the staff even spoke in front of her that they hope that they would never be in a place like this. There was also an incident of her being left for over 6 hours in her own feces. My mother was challenged when it came to feeding her self. She was able to feed her self better from the bed than the dinning table. When she got back from dialysis they asked her if she wanted to go to the dinning room to eat, she stated no. They took her anyway, and left her there. When the staff member came back they asked her why she didn't eat, she told them she was unable to reach it. Can you imagine the suffering someone who is hungry and cant reach the food. That is torture! When my sister brought her home she had a severe bed sore on her lower back where her tail bone was. And as for the physical therapy that she received in that place, it was worthless. She did 100 times better with having a physical therapist coming once a week.    The staff there is uncaring and unprofessional. She left the facility towards the beginning of January. I had paid through the time frame that she was scheduled to be there, which I believe it was till the 15th. A refund was owed.  I have been contacting since January about that refund and i was given the run-around. The last time I contacted that location over the phone  a staff member insulted me when I stated I was going to bring my lawyer up there they hung up on me multiple times and ignored me everytime I called back. I dont understand how someone can treat people like this. I worked in a facility that cared for the ederly and i have never seen such things. I know i can not place the blame on anyone for my mothers passing, but i do believe that if she didnt go to that facility she would of lived longer. read more

My husband had triple bypass surgery and wears a Fibrilator Vest. He needed lots of care since he is 84 years old and not able to get up alone. His light is not answered for up to 45 minutes at times, so he had to go to the bathroom in bed. He has a terrible bed sore and he is diabetic. It is like pulling hen's teeth to get his wound taken care of at times, then the nurse argued that it was to be changed only every three days. The battery on his fibrilator must be changed every 24 hours. Again two nurses argued that it only needed changed when the battery went dead. I took the course and have the book to prove what Zoll recommends. I have had to go to Administration several times to get things done. I would definitely NOT recommend this place to put anyone in who cannot fend for themselves. Nursing staff are argumentative and not the kind of people I want tending to my loved one. We are leaving in a couple days and both myself and my husband are counting the minutes until we are away from this place. Nurses need training in taking care of special incidents like the fibrilator and wounds. An "I don't care attitude" is prevaient in this place too many times. I would let my loved one stay at home and pay for care before I would put him/her in this place. How it even stays open is beyond me. read more
