We had 4 people on our table and each meal was enjoyable. They serve freshly squeezed juice and coffee was made as ordered. Also they serve European hot chocolate in 15 different flavours. There were two guys there that looked like brothers (possibly the owners) which weren't dressed as well as their staff & were much ruder. The decor is warm and inviting with lots of outdoor seating. The service is fantastic with staff being warm and chatty and very good at good service, making sure you feel like royalty. There is a community here of regulars and the staff all know them well. Inside there are pillows along two wall-seating areas so you can read a good book or just have a great place to sit with a friend over breakfast or lunch. I've had quite a few meals here and my all time favourites are the french toast and the chicken caesar salad. The french toast is done just as it should be, not soggy, but well done and comes with lightly cooked banana halves and crispy, crunchy bacon. The flavours all go so well together. The chicken caesar was perfect with all the components...crunchy homemade crouton slices, poached egg, crunchy bacon and a light dressing that was just right, not too oily and full of flavour. And of course I have to comment on the coffee.....excellent of course!!!! You know I wouldn't come back unless it was LOL It's one of the few places I can "not" order a "strong" latte and it comes out strong (as in not milky and full-flavoured coffee). Highly recommend this place and, it's owned by the same people as Cocos Lounge in Glen Waverley that I rave on about. It also came with a warm round pita that provided a tasty way to mop up runny yolks and tomato salsa. The ricotta hot cakes were superb. Sweet but naturally so. They were topped with Greek yoghurt, fresh berries and drizzled with honey and crushed pistachio. The texture was excellent and flavours worked really we'll together. My mouth is watering just thinking about them. Coffee was excellent too and service was friendly. The also have a great range of breads, deli goods and wine that you can take home. We were told to go to Blackbird by a local shop owner and were so glad we took their advice! Blackbird Cafe is off the main drag down a laneway about halfway down Main St. We went for breakfast on a Sunday morning and though it was busyish they were happy to accommodate a table for 6 without a reservation. Breakfast menu had all the usual faves plus a couple of great vego options for us so yay - Vegan Breakfast and Baked Eggs. Our friends had The Big Breakfast, Eggs Florentine and Avocado Smash. Also each coffee comes out with a itty bitty piece of cake on the side - too cute! The Big Breakfast definitely lived up to its name - huge! The hollandaise on the eggs was raved about and my Baked Eggs were AH-mazing. Lesson learnt - listen to locals! Check out Blackbird if you're ever down that way.
