I flew into Dunedin with some colleagues and we were in need of a venue with great food. I also wanted a something to wet my whistle. Del Sol is pretty easy to find. We walked from our hotel and made our way in. Décor is a fusion of Mexican cantina and modern grafitti art. It's suited to large gatherings with long tables and bench seats. There were three in our party and we sat at a table with seating for six. On the table were colourful Mexican hats which we initially wore. It was a fairly quiet night on this occasion yet the atmosphere in the restaurant seemed jovial and boisterous...or maybe that was the décor. In any event, it was a great atmosphere with friendly staff who were on hand promptly to take our order. The menu has lots of options available if you're into carne otra pollo. (Beef or chicken) I went with the pulled pork nachos with a side of the chipotle aioli. To be honest I didn't need the chipotle aioli. The pulled pork was cooked to perfection and was succulent and tender. The aioli was delicious though. I ate as much of that as I could but the nachos were so filling with its generous portion. I was thoroughly impressed with the skill used in assembling the dish in a way that it looked just as delectable as it tasted. As a side, I also ordered the calamari which is what my chipotle aioli was mostly used for. My colleagues gobbled up their meals and were sated as well. I had the El Chapo Mule as well as a Sol beer. Really happy with the meal and I'll be back there next time I'm in Dunedin to eat more of their delicious fare.

Good atmosphere, we like the decoration and mexican hats you can put in the head during diner. My daugther liked the hat. We chose a chicken Nachos and beef tacos. The tacos were delicious, but the nachos lacked of cheese otherwise the taste would be better. No wifi so i'm not giving a 5*. As a traveller, a free wifi access would be more than welcome
We walked in after 1p and the place was completely empty for some reason. We have a tradition of having Mexican food on our last day of vacation, so here we are. There is one person working the entire restaurant, but he was very efficient with just us present lol. We split the chicke quesadilla (needs to double the chickenand a polenta chicken (fried chicken bites). We also had two draught beers (export low carb, which were nice and cold). Service was very friendly. The place is bright and colorful with Latin music blasting. Full bar so perhaps they are busier in the evenings. You pay at the bar when you are done - total for these snacks and two beers was 48 New Zealand dollars or $30 USD. read more

Very Americanized food. They had no idea what a Cadillac Margarita was! Pretty authentic interior, but downtown Dunedin is worn out! read more

The chicken was amazing, they have the best spices ever. When you imagine a "Mexican" restaurant it's everything you expect, the vibes are definitely on point. read more

When we arrived we communicated with our waitress that we'd have to leave early, and in doing so we asked for our drinks to arrive before we had to leave. She (blonde haired) was perfectly pleasant about this, but the dark haired bartender felt that she needed to make condescending comments to us on rushing her, despite us making her aware of the situation more than 20 minutes prior. She made comments aimed critically at us about the restaurant being understaffed, as if we could fix it by chucking on aprons and giving her a hand behind the bar. I do understand that working in the service industry is frustrating- but these comments were intended to belittle us and were spoken in contempt. We're not Karens, we're just a bunch of teenagers trying to have dinner. She also made snarky comments when we were paying making the overall experience finish on a low note. Very disappointed, as some of the staff were lovely and the food was pleasant read more
A really well decorated place, with a wide selection off the menu, and we had gone in not knowing that they had early Tuesday specials where each taco was 4 dollars each, and was a perfect dinner before catching our movie at the Rialto across the street. We had all four tacos and I must say the chicken taco was the best out of them, with the fried chicken strips resembling chicken karaage! read more
