So I told them that I was smiling because I was exceptionally excited to try all of their vegan goodness, beany gluttony and lacto-veggie lurv that I had read so many wonderful Yelp reviews of. I had porridge with nuts and dried fruits on top, and it was exactly as it sounds. It was a huge portion, especially for the price/location, and it was so filling that I didn't even finish. My friend had waffles with a house-made hazelnut-chocolate spread. It might have been ok except that the waffles were not heated all the way through, so they were tough and chewy. The guy that made our order looked like he might have had a little too much fun the night before, so that might have been the issue, but he did put the waffles through the toaster, so it might also be a hardware issue. Whatever it was, my friend did her best but eventually gave up on the unappetizing waffles. The espressos were good, though.

The food is decent - I always seem to get something disappointing, but it's moderately good. It feels like it's getting more expensive though, as my husband and I spent £12 and 15 (respectively) the other night, and it wasn't exactly piled high (I was still slightly hungry afterwards), and that was without drinks, bread, or dessert. They also have changed dinner drinks ordering to where they give you a plastic card as your tab. You weigh your plates at the till as normal, but instead of ordering drinks there, you have to do so at your table. (They won't even let you order at the till - they instruct you to go back and order from the table.) It's needlessly complicated for something that should be a simple concept.

Finding Tibits was exciting since they had a huge selection of items we could both eat and the food was delicious! If you have food allergies you will be excited at the spread at this restaurant. If you don't have food allergies or restrictions, you will be surprised at the amazing flavors the restaurant has evoked from the food! My biggest revelation here was the "egg" salad. I have an egg allergy and haven't touched egg in about 10 years. Egg salad is one of those things that I really miss and Tibits nailed the flavor and texture. They used a spice I hadn't heard of prior (Kala Namak) to get the sulfurous flavor of the egg and it was spot on!
Such a great aesthetic

I came to this place with two of my friends from Delhi and they were explaining the origin of the food before me: what region it came from, the cultural reasons behind the use of those particular ingredients. They serve platters with all kinds of yoghurts, nans and house specialties. I got the smallest platter thinking that I could devour it whole in a matter of milliseconds, but surprisingly it was very filling. My other friends who got the larger platter couldn't finish their meal. However, my most recent visit to an actual branch proved that Masala Zone is not a good option if you just fancy a light meal. Having been lucky to get an outdoors table on the patio out front (overlooking traffic, but still ...) we decided to leave without ordering. Sushi across the road was the answer on this occasion. The upmarket chains (Wagamama, Dishoom, Busaba Ethai et al) all seem to employ the same interior designers, this branch of Masala Zone was dimly lit with dark tables - very pleasant but formulaic.

From their drinks menu, their super yummy chiku milk shake hits the spot and is a nice alternative to the standard sweet, salty or mango lassi. I've also had the ragra patties, aloo papri chaat and dahibhala chaat and they're all excellent and the best thing about all of them are the portion sizes. They're crazy huge and fit for a king! The restaurant was empty save for one other table when I arrived - absolutely no atmosphere. I should have left then. Proceeded to look at the menu, when the food arrived it was clear it was very expensive for small portions. The waitress didn't seem to know anything about the menu and had to call the manager over. Half my meal arrived within 5 minutes of ordering so it was clearly just reheated. It was taken back until 10 mins later my full meal arrived - obviously reheated for a second time. The portions were small for the prices charged. The dosa was pleasant enough. The Channa Masala is amongst the worst I have ever tasted, and had the most repugnant aftertaste - it tasted like a ready meal prepared days in advance and left to stagnate. I had to drink glasses of water to wash it down. The lemonade was grossly overpriced and served luke warm in a small grubby glass. When I had paid my excessive bill of £20 (I was aghast at the £2.50 service charge!!), I asked for the bathrooms, the staff were clearly disinterested once I'd paid my dues and I was vaguely told "downstairs". There were no signposts upstairs or downstairs for the toilet and when you did find it, you were almost walking into the kitchen as it was right beside the kitchen door, the bathroom was clearly used by the kitchen staff as it was dirty (and had a urinal beside the sink), and I couldn't wait to get out of there.
