Everything was good enough to want to come back again. Parking is easy enough, and it's set in a quaint little area in Middle Park. It seems to be a local gem, as the guy doing everything, seemed to know so many people, so that's great as it speaks a lot to the business and the food. With that said ... I know staffing issues can be a problem in restaurants right now; I get that. But I first booked here a few weeks ago, and when the guy on the line said that we'd need to be patient as he's the only staff member, we cancelled the booking. We tried it again now, and it's the same issue. Surely you can hire your niece or your neighbour or just someone, to help bring out food to speed things up. They were slammed with take away orders (I felt like disconnecting the phone line, lol, as patrons were put on the back burner a bit) so that did make things slower, and granted, the guy running around was busy and trying his best. But don't come here if you're in a rush. If you want a slow, long meal, then this is fine. I didn't like how he told one lady sitting down (who'd been there 20 minutes waiting for their order to be taken) that he would tend to the takeaways first. That doesn't sit well with me. But ... the food is good, and in winter when it's cooler (there was only fans spinning and they weren't using the A/C), if they have more staff, I'd definitely try it here again.

Little Buddha has just opened and is the only Thai place on the Armstrong St strip, replacing the former Japanese restaurant Tomoshibi (sniff, sniff - no more Japanese in Middle Park, boo) Thankfully the staff maintain the friendly service and casual, quaint vibe that Tomoshibi had, there is no pretension here. Amazingly for Melbourne not only can you reserve a table indoors but wait for it...shock, horror, you can reserve one outside too! Hurray! Making this place even better is the ability to BYO wine with $8 corkage per bottle. Good times. On this occasion we had takeaway which was ready promptly within 15 minutes and able to be paid for on credit, rare for a new place to have their eftpos sorted in the first week. Kob khun ka. The pad thai didn't look amazing but it was addictively tasty, the roti was better than most places I've tried, the chicken larb was fine and the red beef curry brought it all together. I have sampled two of their offerings to date - first was the Brazilian chicken and quinoa salad and on my second visit it was a Brazilian cos boat which included delicious morsels of chicken atop a large cos lettuce leaf with brown rice and a few vegetable items on top as garnish. Both dishes were extremely tasty and I only wish I knew how to get chicken to taste that damn juicy and delicious myself! Staff were welcoming and friendly and the end product perfection. I cannot recommend these guys highly enough. Don't be surprised to find the shop full of patrons during the lunch time rush, but there is usually always a spare seat to pull up and enjoy your dish of choice (with both indoor and outdoor seating) and on the rare occasion this is not possible, take away is available.

The rice servings are huge, with menu items like eggplant in chilli, chicken curry and more. The spices are great without being artificially over the top (you know the chilli sauce you find that makes your face explode, but it's chemicals? It's not here, thankfully) Never busy enough to serve you within five minutes of walking in, Norsiah's hidden winnings are well worth discovering for yourself.

I made sure I tried the fried chicken and asked them to add the sambal sauce on the side. The fried chicken was nice and crispy but I felt that it lacked the spice punch of traditional Malay fried chicken. It should be more fragrant and probably a little saltier. The sambal sauce was okay. Just okay because there wasn't enough spice (Again!) and too watered down for my liking. The two complimented each other well, the sauce making up for the blandness of the chicken. I also had Tofu with Tao Gey (bean sprouts) which was too salty and Beef Rendang (A thick curry) which was also a tad too salty but the meat was fall-off-the-bone tender, so it was definitely a saving grace to the meal. The curry was not quite thick enough to what I would call a 'rendang'. It was a little watery. All of that for $7, I think its a pretty good deal. I'll say this, I finished the whole plate of food because I was pretty hungry and because I believe we should never waste food. I ordered a cuppa the famous Teh Tarik (lit: pulled tea Google it its quite a sight to watch it made traditionally) for $2.50(?) and a 10 min wait. I was quite disappointed as it was watered down and it took so long to be made. The tea is made in batches due to its popularity. I actually think I can make a better Teh. Sorry to the Uncle who made my tea! So! Here comes the long awaited conclusion. It was okay. I will probably not go back unless I was desperate. I really wanted to write a raving review for this place but upon thinking back on my experience I realised that it was what I have to call it a mediocre one. I give it 5/10.

The bar programme looks tempting - but sadly it was a work night for me. The fish here is absolutely outstanding. We had first rate oysters on the shell. They were small, but utterly packed with taste. Non-Aussies - Australia is where you want to eat your raw oysters. They have the cleanest oyster beds on the planet. The oysters served at Ichi Ni Nana are absolutely outstanding. We also did a kingfish sashimi that was completely primo. A pleasant kingfish taste stayed in my mouth for a long time after finishing. Gyoza are standard fare in Japanese restaurants everywhere - often based on perfectly lovely commercial pre-mades. What matters is the in-house cooking. They do a nice job on theirs. * * * Other items were not so lovely. A Dragon Roll was spicy but not interesting. A fried soft shell crab had to be sent back to the kitchen for a bad oil taste. (I almost never send things back to the kitchen.) My wife did not like her Agedashi tofu. * * * Normally a place with this many misses would not get a four star rating. But their raw seafood program is pretty darn fine. Lots of places fry up a good tempura. Few places serve up really really wonderful fish. Stick to what they are good at here and you can do well. And I suspect the bar program just makes everything better.
