After hearing rave reviews about Delice et Chocolat, I finally was able to swing by. Though the weather was gloomy, Delice's interior was warm and inviting, with whimsical macaron window displays plentiful seating spread across the cafe and bakery sections of the shop. Unfortunately, since it was late afternoon on a weekend, they were sold out of most items. (We had been warned by our friend that Delice often completely sells out, so we were just happy there was anything left at all!) We ended up with a strawberry mousse cake and a tiramisu ($5/ea). The lady behind the counter was attentive, friendly, and careful in packing up the cakes. Both cakes were absolute winners - the tiramisu had all the flavors of a traditional tiramisu, but was presented in such a beautiful French style that really elevated the dessert. The strawberry mousse was a bit sweet for me (definitely catered more for the American sweet tooth), but the fresh fruit flavors really shone through and again, the cake had a lovely presentation. The lady who helped us informed us that the pastry chef is from France (and we got to peek into the kitchen to see the pastry team hard at work whipping up more macarons), and the high level of training really shows in each stunning pastry. Will definitely have to find an excuse to stop by again and try some of their other cake flavors! read more

FDC is most definitely a Francophile. She studied at the Sorbonne. Her degree is in French Literature. So, when her half-century birthday came, I made a point to stop at Delice et Chocolat for their macaroons. They are her favorite. The shop is tucked in a row of c 1900-1925 storefronts directly next to the Ardmore Train Station. The space is bright and sparkling, not cluttered, with bakery cases not so full of items by the time I got there because they make everything by hand each morning. When it's sold, there are no freezer cases full of more inventory to sell. This is the real deal, so get there early. They were as nice as could be in helping me select a variety of macaroons for FDC, and my order was packaged nicely. They've recently expanded to the next storefront over (where Radio Shack was for many years) and are now serving lunch items. Price was not inexpensive but reasonable for quality hand - made fresh baked goods. Parking is not the easiest, however for a fairly quick dash in on a weekend I was able to park in the train station lot. There's some metered parking on the street and a public lot 1/2 a block away. Also, the train is literally right there as are the bus stops, so very transit friendly. FDC was ecstatic, said theirs are the closest she's had to when she was studying in France. Delice et Chocolat offers an extensive selection of French lunch and dessert foods. The main room off of Lancaster Ave offers soups, salads, sandwiches, sweet and savory crepes, gelato, pastries, smoothies, drip coffee, and espresso and tea beverages. The back room off of Station Ave offers more decadent items, like macarons, cheesecake, and beautiful layered desserts (maybe dacquoise? Opera cake? Mille-feuille?). I ended up ordering an apple tart and English breakfast tea. The apple tart was very good. The pastry crust was light and flaky, and stayed crisp even under the rich custard and apple filling (no soggy bottom!). The apples were baked well, though I would have liked for them to be a bit more tart to cut through the sweet custard. Coupled with my tea, the tart was a delicious afternoon snack. Although this cafe's large menu was slightly overwhelming (the cashier, for example, did not know all the tea options), I would love to come back for another lunch, dessert, or caffeinated beverage. read more

I FINALLY was able to go to this bakery! Wish it wasn't during COVID, but better now than never. I appreciate the safety precautions that they are taking - only enabling 1-2 customers in at a time and of course everyone wearing a mask. Since I went a bit past noon, the selection was small, which I was sad about - lesson learned. With that said, I was able to get their croissants, chocolate croissant, caramel/coconut lime macarons, apple crostata, lorraine quiche, and tomato/mozzarella sandwich. Long story short - I need to come again! For the details... - I'm not a huge fan of macarons and truth be told, coconut either. With that said, I loved these! The cookie was soft and the cream inside wasn't too sweet. - Sandwich was delicious - the bread was tasty with a crusty outside and soft inside, their pesto with the tomato and mozzarella - yum! - Croissants were solid - I like the outside with a bit more crunch, but it was still buttery yumminess - Quiche was also great - creamy with enough salt from the bacon Can't wait to try other things when I go in the morning next time as well as their desserts! read more

I have been here numerous times and everything is delicious. I originally came here because finding good fresh French macarons in the suburbs can be difficult. They are very very good here, but what I find amazing are their cakes. I understand at first glance they might be a bit pricy for the size, but looking at the beautiful layers and intricate yet delicate flavor profiles make them soooo worth it. I've tried the chai latte and hot chocolate. The hot chocolate is not powdered or some mix. I'm not exactly how much chocolate/cream is in it but it is ridiculously rich. read more

I visited here with a few friends for the first time and I am positive this is not my last! I was awestruck with the beautifully decorated pastries on the one side and the main part of the restaurant had more appetizing pastries and savory dishes (quiches, crepes, etc). I needed coffee so that was the first order of business. I ordered a vanilla latte and chose to have a spinach feta croissant nearest to the cashier. While I was waiting, I noticed the barista was steaming the milk and it was not "screaming" (you know, that piercing whoosh sound some people make when they're essentially burning the milk lol). I knew it was going to be good and I told the barista! lol The croissant was awesome and full of flavor in every bite. Unfortunately, I didn't take any pictures this time around because everything was so good and I ate and drank too fast! Next time, though. I heard amazing things about Delice et Chocolat from friends and on Yelp, so I decided to check it out for myself. When I walked in I was greeted by the sight of hard-wood floors, a few tables and glass-paneling allowing for a view of the bakers. Best of all, they had a large glass display filled with a variety of treats including cakes and macarons. I decided to get a couple chocolate macarons and a piece of the chocolate mousse. All I can say, is that they were both amazing! I thought the macarons were the best! The outside was crunchy, but not too hard and the inside was filled with delicious filling! The chocolate mousse was also really good. It had a great proportion of mousse and cake. It was perfectly topped off with chocolate shavings on top. Also, I liked how it was not too sweet. They also sell drinks here including smoothies, coffees and hot chocolate from melted chocolate! The staff here was really nice and gave me tips on what I should get! She also suggested I refrigerate everything once I get home. In the future, they plan on selling gelato and ice cream and adding a chocolate bar. Altogether, this is a great shop that is a great addition to the Ardmore community! read more

I guess I just don't buy into the hype of places like this. It's beautifully decorated and very clean but the prices are quite high in this tiny cramped spot. It was difficult to maneuver anywhere including leaving when I took my items to go as there were no seats. My small latte was very good, the croissant was really nothing special and was small for the price tag. There were only 3 flavors of macarons left when we got there and none of them sounded great so I did not try. Maybe that's the only thing they do really well? I guess I have to try again and see. They do seem to be expanding but as it stands it's too cramped to be comfortable in there. Will update hopefully after they have expanded. read more

OMG. Desert nirvana. Former pastry chef of 20 years at Le Bec Fin says it all. Tried two pieces of their cake and can't decide which is better...both were incroyable! Macarons were also fabuleux. Everything was decadent without being too sweet or rich. Perfect balance. Beautiful presentation. Will absolutely be back to try more deserts and their savory options. Two checks-ins from the same week... They weren't open on Monday though... The door was open, I walked in to a dark room and I was greeted by two pleasant women, but they weren't open... I came back later in the week and bought some incredible Macaroons... An eight pack for my wife and I to split of various flavors. These could have been the best I've ever had... Some were better than others, but it was perfection for the most part. We buy and make macaroons often and I'm shocked these aren't more expensive... Incredible foods and now I have to come back more often. So glad it's located close to my work and I can't wait for them to expand into the next building. read more

My mother lives in Ardmore and there aren't many coffee shops with such good pastries where you can just hang out and chat with friends. I like coming here to relax with my family (other than being at their home). The aesthetics here are nice and bright - all white minimal decor and lots of open space. Some outdoor seating as well sometimes, if the weather permits. They have great iced coffee, croissants, and plenty of options if you need! Besides croissants, I think they have other good pastries, but I haven't tried them yet. Just very loyal to croissants since my mom is all about it. Great spot - hope they stay in business and prosper even more. We need more cute little joints like this. read more

Great espresso/coffee drinks made properly, delicious salads (the quinoa one is a fave), and the desserts are OMG AMAZING. But.....the service is slow and the seating is limited. This is definitely one of the best pastry shops in the surrounding area! The owners are from France, so expect to get authentic and beautifully made pastries! I ordered the Fiji (made with coconut lime mousse, key lime center, mango gelee, lady finger and almond coconut base) and I also had the their strawberry shortcake. Very disappointing. I went in hoping to purchase a cake for a dinner party, only to learn that cakes are made to order and need a 24-hour window. That's reasonable, during COID, so I ordered a chocolate croissant. I found it barely above the frozen variety. Five stars. No question. The Piedmont tiramisu was downright divine. It was delicate, it was proud. The hazelnut flavors blended perfectly with the chocolate. The crunchy layers gave way to light fluffy layers of chocolate deliciousness. The twirls of chocolate that graced the top of the tiramisu were artistic and playful. The cappuccino was among the best I've ever had. It was strong as a horse. The crema lingered just long enough and the foam was created to showcase the barista's design skills. If I could give them 0 stars I would. I was in the mood for something sweet and made a special trip to check them out. When I arrived, I stood around being ignored for about 5 mins in one room of the bakery before I noticed an employee directing a customer to a second room. I followed because I thought based on other yelp reviews there had to be more to the bakery. I was ignored again in the other room, where the pastry cases were almost empty. When someone finally decided to help me, the pastry I wanted was "on hold" for someone else. I decided to get a chocolate croissant instead and was told to go back to the first room to order it. I went back to the first room and decided I did not want to give this establishment my money and left. Based on the empty pastry cases, I assume the food is good.
