Nice campus, some of the teachers don't care about their job or students but most do. Wasn't sure…read moreabout attending because of the reviews but now that I attend the school I would recommend

If you're considering taking a class at Holmes, just run. Run far, far away…read more After recently graduating from a real life 4 year university, I decided to take a history class at Holmes just for my own interest. The tuition was cheap and they offered an online version so I thought, why not? I was so wrong. This one $250 class has turned into a nightmare. I have yet to deal with one person at HCC who is a smart, competent person. This includes their counselors/advisors, records department, head of e-learning, testing department, and my online professor. This has been my experience with each of the following, in brief: 1. Counselor/Advisor -- Refused to accept test scores from other schools which exempted me from various prerequisites, even though the class in which I wanted to enroll had no prerequisite requirements. Also refused to send test scores from Holmes to other colleges so that I might enroll elsewhere. Keep in mind that I PAID to take those tests. 2. Records Department -- Insisted that I was an out of state resident because I attended college in another state. Never mind that I never became a resident of that other state, and still have my MS driver's license. Never mind that I have paid taxes in MS for the past 5 years since I became eligible to file. I was finally able to sign an affidavit to prove my residency. A week later they sent me a bill for Out of State tuition. 3. Head of E-learning -- I called to complain about my professor, after never hearing a response when I tried to contact her personally. So far I've left 3 voice mail messages for the head of e-learning. No response. 4. Testing Department -- Their online proctored test system was down, so I called a week prior to my test closing date. Left a message. Sent an email. Finally was called back the day before my test closed. The head of the testing department left a nasty voice mail accusing me of being irresponsible. Out of his good graces, I was allowed to test "even though they were completely booked." When I arrived to take my test, the computer terminals were more than half empty. 5. Online Professor -- I would be astonished if this woman holds a high school diploma, let alone a college degree. Her notes are atrocious -- grammatically and factually. And this is history we're talking about here so facts are kind of important. She regularly misspells common words, and confuses elementary words with their alternate counter parts. For example, on my FINAL EXAM, when discussing the higher court system, she regularly spelled it "HIRE COURT." This school is one of the reasons Mississippi is 40th in education. It's a complete joke. Don't waste your time or your money.

They are the only place in the state that do many procedures, so you have to take what they give. The worst thing is the assembly line care from each specialty consulted where the many students and interns see you, but aren't there to make decisions, they are there to learn....on you. When they made rounds, it was hard to know when you were talking to the doctors who were the decision makers, or their minions. If at all possible avoid health crisis on the weekend, the place comes to a standstill and the least experienced people get to keep the ship afloat till Monday. Care wise, most nurses were okay and almost all were nice. Paula, the nurse tech on the transplant floor was angel with earthly wings. Across the board in Mississippi, they don't know how to swab IV ports or keep IV tubing capped, a potential sepsis problem. They kept the place clean, had working equipment and a decent cafeteria. The patient food was awful, but after all, they are not a hotel.

Though I do not work in the medical field, in the office I have always felt welcome and never like I did not belong. The UMMC campus is HUGE and working here for three summers I still only know where certain places are in the hospital. If I ever need help, I find someone wearing a UMMC badge and they are always ready to help and usually they even walk with me to the exact location. I would definitely come here for medical needs in the future.
