Danish artist Thomas Dambo has built seven giant trolls from reclaimed wood using old shelves, pallets, and branches from fallen trees. Trolls are 13 to 60-foot-tall sculptures and are dotted around the forest with some practicing chores and others taking a rest. Super fun to discover! But be careful for mosquitoes - they are brutal in the wooded area. Mr & I got totally eaten. But better than being eaten by the trolls. This place absolutely rocks!

The Linnaeushof has equipment for kids of all ages, ranging from a simple play area for toddlers, to go-karts, an indoor playground, huge slides, a small waterpark, and really cool chairlifts that took you for a ride across the lake, which you could also explore by paddle boat! At the heart of the playground stands a restaurant, though perhaps snackbar would be a better term. Basic french fries, kroketten, etc., and ice cream. Nothing special, but it's perfect for kids parties and long playground days.

Chaos, but charming chaos. The main paths are wide, but that doesn't stop near‑misses from happening every few minutes. You learn quickly that eye contact is optional and braking is a luxury. Still, there's something undeniably lively about it: the energy, the noise, the constant movement. It's the opposite of remote -- you're never alone, even when you wish you were. Find a quieter corner and the park shows its softer side. Lakes, trees, open lawns, and the occasional heron staring at you like it knows something you don't. It's peaceful, but with that faint undertone of "someone is definitely smoking something nearby." Classic Amsterdam ambiance. And unlike the more feral parks on the city's edges, Vondelpark keeps its surprises relatively tame. No cows. No sanctioned adult zones tucked into the woods. Just people, lots of them, all doing their best to coexist without turning the place into a full‑contact sport. I used to think it was a few blueberry bushes and maybe a gardenia plant or two with vines of midnight jasmine but now I'm tossing an entire courtyard of daffodils onto that list. This is where kids learn traffic rules and how to maneuver through realistic-looking traffic obstacles. Basically, you grab a paddle go kart, called a skelter in Dutch, and make your way around a miniature traffic park. And who says it's only fun for kids? The house in the hill: This indoor playground is made to look like grandma and grandpa's home and uses the child's imagination of it's fantastic play potential. It has secret passageways, crazy bathroom parties, trampolines, and more. This definitely is the ultimate indoor playground. Swan boats: There's something about sitting in a plastic swan and floating on a lake with good company. Our favorite game was to race the other swans on the lake. Word of warning: this activity can be exhausting for those paddling. Children can spend an entire day at this park and still feel the need to return for more. Activities/rides: swan paddle boats, many indoor and outdoor play grounds, splash ride, train ride, outdoor pool, boat ride, go-kart traffic garden, zoo, raft ride, walking gardens, gnome forest, merry-go-round, zip line, and I'm sure more.
