Definitely not what this place used to be. The service has gone seriously downhill, and the food wasn't even hot. We visited on a Saturday afternoon when the restaurant was nearly empty, yet staff repeatedly walked past our table without acknowledging us. There was no greeting, no update, and very little attention from anyone. When we finally received service, the staff seemed distracted and uninterested. After a long wait, the food arrived lukewarm, with stale fries and the appearance of an order that had been sitting around or reheated. Watching food sit before being served is extremely frustrating, especially when you are already waiting far longer than expected. To make matters worse, the order was incorrect, and there seemed to be little interest in fixing the problem. We have been coming here for years, which makes the decline even more disappointing. Dining out should be relaxing and enjoyable, not an experience where you feel ignored and leave angry. Sadly, we won't be returning. There are now so many better options in Livermore with better food, warmer service, and staff who actually value their customers. read more

Came around 530 for evening show at Bankhead theatre. Tried here 2 prior times and either all the tables were reserved or the wait was crazy. Ordered seafood penne pasta, Giro Platter, Mediterranean Salad, fried calamari, and Baklava Sundae. The seafood pasta was the only "just ok" item we ordered. Had mainly calamari and some feta sprinkled on top. Nothing wrong nor overwhelming right about it. She remembers every face, and if you haven't met her you need to! She brings so much light and positive energy to our visits, is always on top of providing the up most service even when she has enough tables for 3 servers. We've been going to Demitris for years. Most recently we've been doing take out and it never disappoints. Last night we placed a take out order for three entrees. One we paid extra for the garlic fries. When we got home it was just the regular fries, so called them up later. We got lucky and Dimitri himself offered us several options to make it right! First, it wasn't a big deal but he handled it like it was. Made us feel heard and was very apologetic. He's got a customer for life. Food was great as always! read more

It is sad to say that my experience with Demitris has change over the last few years. What was once a consistent experience has turned to missed items, less welcoming, and not what the restaurant used to be. I have tried Demitris multiple times in the last year and without fail, one or more of the items we ordered does not come, both when in restaurant and delivery. The final nail was when we had a reservation recently that was confirmed by email and also by phone with them, and when we arrived we were first told that the reservation did not exist and after we showed our reservation confirmation, they told us that they were full so they wouldn't accept the reservation. When we have gotten our food there has also been other issues such as portion sizes very small or not prepared correctly. read more

My wife and I shared the falafel pita which. And with fries and I had the vegetable bean soup and a side of rice pilaf. The food was amazing and the service was great and fast. My wife and I had lunch at DT recently and had not been here for about a year. Some of the faces have changed but the food is as good as ever and the service was great. I really wanted to love this place and I've given it 3 tries. I'm Greek so when I first moved here, I immediately had to try it. First off - all 3x they haven't had Mythos so I wish they'd take that beer off the menu. The first time, I got the mousaka, which was very bland and a little mushy. The next time I got the gyro, which I did like and the fries were pretty good. The last time I got a burger which was perfectly fine. I just wasn't impressed with anything I'd gotten. Horrible service! Terry, waitress with the long pigtail rushed my order, gave me a 3oz pour of wine (worst pour ever). I then got my food and explained I was allergic to something in the sauce and asked for a replacement and she told me she would have to upcharge me for it. When I finally got the bill because she was having a long discussion with a bar patron, she charged me for an extra item I didn't order. Just horrible service and I won't go back! There are too many options now with Greek food, so if the service isn't good and I'm paying $14 for a 3oz pour of wine, I will take my business elsewhere. read more

Lots of feta cheese, olives, olive oil, spinach. Basically everything that is good for you lol I had order a peach drink and it was supeeeeer food. A completely wonderful find, thanks to Yelp. Atmosphere offers pleasant Greek decor and music at just the right volume to allow conversation. Lots of outdoor seating and a good amount inside too. Server and kitchen/bar attendant were pleasant and attentive. It was mid-afternoon so we stuck with appetizers and side salad, and they were all excellent and filling. There were six large meat- and rice-filled dolmathes with gentle seasoning and a delicious creamy sauce. The Greek salad was vegetables (no lettuce) with a just-right dressing and a huge slab of feta. And the feta and olives plate with four spreads, pita, and lots of olives was generous and all delicious. One side salad and two appetizers fed three of us very well. One very small negative was that I encountered a few small bits of bone in the dolmathes, but it's certainly not worth deducting any portion of a star from this excellent restaurant. I venture to a lot of Mediterranean and this is the first time I've seen pasta on the menu with Greek food. I tried the gyro pasta and was fully satisfied. The portion was enormous. I tried the gyro platter and highly recommend it. it was very busy, so when the owner Demitri came to check on us, I let him know the wait was a little long. Demitri's Tavern has a rustic, casual vibe and a Greek-inspired menu of appetizers, salads, pitas, and more! We were started with a basket of grilled sourdough bread and skordalia (potato garlic spread), and we also ordered the plate of House Spreads and Olives, which came with spicy feta spread, hummus, tzatziki, Mediterranean salsa (chopped tomatoes and herbs), olives, cucumbers, and slices of chewy grilled pita bread. The Falafel appetizer was a plate of eight baked chickpea balls, served with a creamy "Demitri's sauce" for dipping. The Greek Village Salad was a classic combination of tomatoes, cucumbers, bell peppers, red onions, and olives tossed in a Greek house dressing and topped with a slice of feta cheese; and the Skewered Prawns Salad was a refreshing mixture of lettuce, Mediterranean salsa, feta cheese crumbles, and juicy grilled prawns on top. Finally, the Gyro Platter came with a generous serving of ground chuck and lamb gyro shaved fresh from a rotating spit, along with sautéed vegetables (bell peppers, onions, green beans), rice pilaf, tzatziki, and pita. Overall, the food here was tasty for what it was, but much of the menu and flavors were Americanized and not as authentic as they could've been. Went to Demitri's Taverna for the first time yesterday. First thing that hit us, was the smell coming from the restaurant when we were down the street. Smells just like the restaurants in Greece! That was a good sign. Inside, the ambience also felt like we had just walked into a neighborhood restaurant in Greece. Charming decor, including a couple of real bouzoukis hanging from the walls and some pictures of past rembetiko greats! Felt just like home to me! The staff was very welcoming and the menu offered a varied selection of Greek favorites along with a few non-Greek options. Our server, Miranda, took incredible care of us. She was warm, friendly and very attentive, making sure that we were happy with our food and never in need of anything. The food did not disappoint either. We ordered the moussaka and the gyro platter. All well prepared and flavorful, and very generous portions. I wish Demetri's Taverna was located closer to my home on the peninsula, as I'm sure I would be a regular customer. But I guess I will have to make an occasional trip across the bay to get my "Greek Fix" again soon! read more

I had a wonderful meal yesterday at Dimitri's. The chicken pesto with mushroom pasta dish had the right combination of sauce chicken pesto and cheese. Nick, our waiter was happy to answer our questions, gave us suggestions and made sure our food was exactly what we ordered. He even helped take our pictures so we had captured the fun moments.
