We were passing through Düsseldorf for half a day and saw they're known for their Japanese food, so we decided to check out Takumi! They have both indoor and outdoor seating available. AJITAMA TONKOTSU RAMEN: I'm a tonkotsu person and almost always order this over other types of ramen. Not sure if I was just so severely deprived of Asian food, but I felt Takumi's tonkotsu ramen ranked pretty high on my list! And coming from SoCal as well as having lived down the street from both major Japanese food hubs in Los Angeles, that's saying a lot! Good amount of pork, the noodles were cooked to the perfect texture, and the broth was rich without being overly salty. I don't usually enjoy other types of ramen so I can't speak for those items from their menu. But I slurped my entire bowl of tonkotsu ramen dry! KARAAGE: Large pieces with crispy exterior and super juicy interiors! I wasn't expecting much but in the end I was super happy we ordered this. Overall, amazing tonkotsu ramen located in Düsseldorf's Little Tokyo.

The decor of the place is nice but the service was not great and because of how quickly our food came out, i'm pretty sure the Sushi rolls are not made to order. I've been to a lot of sushi restaurants in multiple countries and I have never had my order come out this fast. The quality of the fish was ok to mediocre. My friend went to the restroom and then suggested I wait to go until I got home if I could because the smell was so bad. Gross! We will not be coming back.

Lunch for One. I…read morelike minimalism so the simplicity of this cafe (restaurant) is just me. The decor has plenty of exposed brickwork, semi industrial feel with a "gigantically" high ceiling with some super light-fittings and massive windows giving an airy open feel. But the wooden floor and tables add the warmth to this eating space. Overall it's relaxed and spacious, even busy you don't feel squashed by the neighbours, and not the sort of place you feel to conspicuous as a single diner (although you shouldn't at lunchtime generally). Lunchtimes are busy enough but I always find a free table. Also the lunchtime menu is just one sheet neatly placed on a clipboard. English included. I didn't need help ordering but the two servers really seem approachable and their smiles seem genuine. I choose the teriyaki chicken which comes warm and succulent, with rice and "salad" - which means green iceberg style lettuce with a vinaigrette dressing. So it's kinda basic to some but pure and simple for others. Other lunch choices include Gyoza, pork or fried rice with shrimp. There is miso soup and a ramen option. All washed down with matcha green tea. (Meal approx €9-12) I see them wipe the tables after each set of diners leave. I did check out the bathroom facilities this time. It's kinda a hidden stairway behind the service area. For tall and elderly maybe not ideal but the place was clean and tidy. "Seoul" is still holding on to The 'Bathroom of the Year' Award. There was no one to see as I left but I got a cheery smile and bye through the window as I passed their service area...proving that it's the people not just the food that often makes us go back.

FOOD & DRINKS Okonomiyaki in Düsseldorf is not very common…read more That is why I wanted to see how good it actually is. If I am not mistaken, what they serve here is the Osaka style okonomiyaki where everything is mixed in the batter and served as a thick pancake. I much prefer the Hiroshima style where it is more of a thin pancake and the ingredients sit on top of that and also often comes with fried noodles. It gives more layers of texture and is less heavy on the stomach. But that is just my personal preference. Osaka style oknomiyaki can be pretty filling and I did the mistake in ordering it with the fried chicken. Batter on batter and on top of that with Japanese potato salad. While the size of the pancake is pretty small, it can fill you up in no time. And if not then just add some protein and cheese on top. You won't go home hungry. The execution of the okonomiyaki is fine. I am just not a fan of this style because the pancake can be so dense. That is just me though. Other than that I would have preferred to do it myself. I also find it more fun that way but having an experienced chef to do it for you is by no means a bad thing for the majority of customers. Furthermore I'm happy to see that they also offer vegetarian items. SERVICE I think the service was alright. It felt very formal which is not my preferred style of service but that doesn't make it bad. You will be in good hands. ATMOSPHERE Here comes what I think is the big seller of this restaurant besides of the okonomiyaki. The decoration is just phenomenal but also very untypical for most oknomiyaki restaurants you find throughout Japan which are more simplistic. While most of the other Japanese style restaurants in the area definitely try to adopt and make a more modern approach to interior design, this place takes a slightly different direction. This place is packed with decorations about Japan. From the traditional big lamps to the japanese sake containers on the wall to the cute details all around. This place wants to make you feel as if you were in Japan not just by the food but also with their sense of decoration. RATING This place can be packed if you come here with a group of more than two and want to sit at a table. I highly recommend to reserve a table to make sure you don't have to wait too long. Come here if you miss Japan or if you want to immerse yourself into Japanese culture. This restaurant is worth trying out! NOTE One review mentioned that you can't get oknomiyaki for dinner. That is not true. You can get it every day for dinner. That is what they are known for. Just make sure to check when the kitchen closes. You can't get them too late into the evening.
