Horrible experience! Zero stars would be too many. On deciding where to go for a quick dinner with family from out of state and some local family as well. I suggested Denny's at 5 points. We always eat there and we didn't think twice about it. I really truly regret my choice. Their air conditioner was out, this is Modesto it's hot!! The bathrooms didn't work and were closed (but they did suggest we could walk across the street to Jack in the Box and ask to use theirs). Good thing my daughter had baby wipes so we could kind of wash our hands before eating. My daughter ordered an omelet with steak... they were out of steak. My husband ordered a burger with fries... they were out of ketchup too. I really wish they would have told us what they were out of before we ordered so we could have adjusted our orders. My son-in-law walked across the street to the Jack in the Box to ask for ketchup and their dining room was closed (so much for using their restroom), so he walked to the hotel next door and asked for ketchup and they kindly donated some ketchup packets to us so we could enjoy our meal. Our waitress was a trainee with no trainer. We were also informed the cook was new and he was alone with no help, so it would take a bit to get our food... and they were right... it took a bit and then some to get our meals. All this we accepted and still smiled, not complaining, but then to add insult to injury and what finally got me upset was when we were going to pay we asked if we could get the military discount. Well no... we were informed you can't use it if a kid ate free. Even though when we were ordering the half dollar pancakes for the baby, fully intending to pay for them, the waitress said, "kids eat free tonight." Making us believe "kids eat free tonight." Then made us feel bad for asking about a military discount. Like we were just asking for way too much. 10% off of a $140 bill would have been way better than the $5 pancakes the baby had. I was asked by management to go back to this location and try it again. The manager was notified I was coming and I spoke with her before I ordered. We got there and no one came to help us we asked in the front and they said someone would come and help us, we waited for a long time and then another group of people came in, the people at the front were going to take them to their table even though we were waiting there the whole time the people who came said we were there first so they took us but they didn't come to help us, a couple came in and they took their order for drinks and we were seated first we don't recommend this Denny's if we could put 0 stars we would. read more

I had to come to Modesto from sacramento. I was hungry for breakfast, dennys never lets me down, but this review is more than just about good food, it's about great customer service. They were slammed and kept up kind and cheerful attitudes - hard to do in a fast paced environment. Went in for what's was to be my Free Birthday Breakfast. Came in Manager handed us Menus at counter, didn't say hello or seat us, counted booths and told us where to sit, 10-15 minutes later they came and asked us if we wanted a drink, 10 minutes later took our order, meals came out incomplete and cold. They would not honor my email showing free birthday breakfast. Restaurant was pretty empty, now I know why. I hate writings negative reviews :( So my wife for the first time agreed to go to Denny's. So we went over the usual place that we go to but her agreement was to go to the one closest to us as they have not ever steered us wrong before... Until today. My wife and 2 youngest daughters were with me for this experience. So she proceeds to take our order after 5 min of sitting @ the table and the waitress hasn't even gotten our drinks. Telling her reply, "I'm sorry I am new." So she is by herself, yet at the same time never waited on someone before ta boot. This is gonna be fun... Also, she was wearing a mask halfway over her face barely even covering her mouth and her nose sticking out of the top of it. Look, all I can say is this.... If you are gonna wear a freaking mask either wear it or don't! Don't try and insult people in front of you like you are following the mandate or even safety like you care about people around you. Condescending bullshit! Either wear it or don't for the love of god! Either backhand the rules of the establishment, or wear it and respect people around you. This was my mistake thinking that I was going to enjoy this. When you get fish and chips what do you expect to get with it which is tartar sauce which is not what happened. So the kids food came out first and my youngest was good as she got her Mac and cheese and for the most part enjoyed it. My middle got the same thing, Mac and cheese when she ordered potatoes. She proceeded to eat it as I was apologizing to her about the wrong food being brought. My wife's food came out next and the steak was over cooked and cold. Mind you the steak came out 10 min after my kids food came out. Finally the fish came out with the seasoned fries on the side since they told us earlier they didn't have regular fries. Then she pops what looks to be a bowl of cheese sauce next to me. My wife immediately goes for it with a fry thinking the same thing that it was cheese sauce and she was shocked to find out it was thousand island dressing. What the hell? So I asked the waitress why she would give me thousand island dressing. She told me that she was out of tartar sauce and that was all she could find. I was freaking heated at this time. I purposely did not eat all day and this is what I get. I will say this is actually the first time I have ever in my entire life NOT eaten the food. Thinking of whether or not I want to sell my principle now due to hunger or return it. In the end I gave it back stating I would not have ordered this if they would have told me the one thing that goes with fish and chips is not available. She goes into the back of the restaurant looking for tartar sauce and 10 min later after my kids and wife finished their food I am still staring at my dinner, lifeless in front of me she brings some out stating that it was hidden away. My wife brought the plate up to another person (yes she said she was the only one tonight serving) stating that we would like this removed from the bill. In the end the waitress charged me the amount for my wife's steak and my 2 kids meals who BTW were supposed to be free but I was so freaking pissed off I just wanted to pay the bill and leave this shithole of an establishment. I have NEVER in my entire life been so dismayed by the atrocious and disgusting behavior of the establishment @ Denny's and I will PROMISE Denny's this. If this is how they treat their customer's, then the whole establishment can take a flying leap off a cliff. And if they don't treat people like this now, then they should just close this store entirely as it is just horrible! Sad to say I really enjoyed this Denny's but after getting that experience. I am just flabbergasted at the absolute worst experience I can actually say of my life at a restaurant. The waitress did not literally have a clue or even care about getting the order right, nor did she know how a restaurant actually worked. Yeah, let's serve the appetizer 20 min after the main course. OK let me start off by saying I hate giving bad reviews on certain restaurant companies that I like to go to and this would be one of them. regularly I go to Denny's for lunch and for breakfast for many years and for the most part they are pretty decent. OK so today while I was in Modesto to take my mom for her surgery my wife and I decided to grab something to eat so we say let's go to Denny's we need some coffee. So first of all we walk in getting ready to be seated I noticed people just staring at me so I waited. Then finally we got seated the lady asked us what we wanted to drink a coffee. So she brought us all the creamer and sugar and my wife asked if she could have some more certain kind of creamer and the lady looked at her kind of weird but she brought it then a few minutes later she asked if she could get a refill. She said OK and walked away fast so we waited and waited and still nothing then I asked if my wife could get a refill a coffee the young lady looked at me like I just asked her for her last dollar but she went in the kitchen stood there for a few minutes I came back out and poured my wife a cuppa coffee with an attitude by then my cup was empty. So I assume she would just fill it but she didn't she just walked away like she was mad at the world so I said OK that's fine so from then every time she came back to our table it seem like she had an attitude towards my wife I didn't know why but we said no problems so the food finally came and the toast was burnt the chicken fried steak was kind of burnt but then. She finally asked me if I would like to have another cuppa coffee I said no thank you but I would like to have my milk now that I ordered. So we ate it wasn't that good and the service was bad and everybody there look like they were pissed off at the world so it's safe to say I will never be back to this Denny's in this town ever again. Also I've never done this but it just happened at the end I didn't feel this person deserved a tip so I did not tip this person. I don't think I've ever not tipped anyone in my life being that I come from a working family and tips are a big part of it I just wasn't happy at all and actually was kind of pissed so anyway if you are in this area please do not go to this Denny's go to the other one in town there are plenty of them don't know if there any better hopefully it's not as bad as this one sorry! I shy away from rating chains like Starbucks, fast food outlets and restaurants such as Perko's and Denny's. However, I will call out lousy service, dirty establishments or truly obnoxious or atrocious service. My wife and I experienced Denny's after many years of avoidance, but we were thrilled to re-discover their new 2 - 4 - 6 - 8 menu, new décor and excellent service. Susan M. is a star...so on-the-spot and personable that we went back on another occasion specifically asking to sit at her table. Even the homeless and destitute can afford to eat at Denny's, and eat well and cheaply. The cheese burger flatbread was a 14" tortilla open-faced with hamburger, cheese and lettuce which was very filling for only $2. I ate more than I wanted with a grandslamwich of grilled cheese and ham for $7.95 and I was truly stuffed. Soups are fresh made daily and here are menu specials for all meals. I love all dennys but this time around I came as a food critic due to the fact that I myself work at a diner. Overall it was dirty my table wasn't even clean nor the carpet below me. My family had visited a day before and they had mention they got the runs. Hint don't go lol yet I still came and it's was okay. Coffee a little too overdone not too mention the thin paper like bacon. Can it be any more cheap. Any how I don't plan on coming back the staff is a little too rude. We stopped in tonight at Modesto's Denny's and boy! I haven't seen such poor service in a LONG time. (And we have eaten in 48 states!) We were told the cook was on lunch (at 9pm) but we could order shakes. So we did. The waitress was terrible, didn't even know what malt was when we asked if they had it, and struggled taking a simple shake order. Twenty minutes later- still awaiting shakes- we were told the cook was back and we could order food. So we grabbed fries and waters. The fries took forever and STILL beat the shakes coming to our table. When the shakes finally did arrive, we were charged incorrectly and the cake batter shakes were plain vanilla because they were out (didn't inform us they changed the flavor either!) The rest tasted less chocolatey than chocolate milk- and watery like no icecream in them whatsoever. They were a waste of calories. The waiter informed us that the dishes were dirty so we never got our waters. Or any napkins. On the way out we used the restrooms- which were filthy- and they had no paper towels to dry on. 0 stars is too many. Don't go here to eat. It was ridiculously bad. read more

The food here is good and cheap, especially if you order off the value menu. They often have coupons as well which makes it even a better bargain. Kids eat free on Tuesdays and Saturdays from 4 PM- 10 PM. The biggest problem here is management continuously understaffs the restaurant leaving many unhappy patrons due to slow service. It has been like this for years and the owner doesn't feel the need to change things. Whenever I dine here I presume they will be understaffed and know what I am getting myself into. Often if I see it is too busy, I will dine elsewhere. There are several servers here who are great and others not so great. If you dine here frequently you'll know who to ask for. A major downside to this place are the homeless people begging in the parking lot and even inside the restaurant. It can get annoying when they do not stop even after you tell them no. If you live nearby or are in the area, this is a decent place to go on the cheap. It is the only restaurant dowtown open 24 hours. read more

My children, Husband & I went to dennys last night for a lite family outing because I'm pregnant and was tired and didn't want to cook dinner . Everything we well UNTIL the food came. I ordered a grand slam which .. (my favorite) well, my food came and luckily i inspected it before biting into it . I was served a sandwich on MOLDED bread . When i told the waitress she said "no that sausage " so i had to POINT out the fuzzy green mold all over my bread . I asked her the take the food and remove it from my tab as i was NO LONGER HUNGRY. As we are leaving , my 4 year old daughter had to use the restroom. I take the the restroom and the floor is SOAKED ! We both almost fall. This place has wonderful workers as far as waitresses and waiter but the cook needs to pay more attention to the food they are serving. If I could give this place zero stars I really would. Do not waste your time coming here. Last year I made an order through DoorDash and selected pickup. I ended up waiting over half an hour just to get my food cold and listen to two of the waitresses argue back and forth. A few months ago I decided to give it another try, we ended up leaving since the manager said that she has a meeting and there is no one to seat us. Today we went in and it was not crowded at all. We stood there for about 10 to 15 mins just to be told that they are not seating anyone because they are understaffed and that she was too new to serve us. Worst Denny's ever. My husband ordered food for us on 3/312020. Win they came with the delivery I answered the door and took the food in . Delivery girl was very nice. But win I came in and we started to eat some of the stuff was under cooked. All 4 orders of the hash browns where under cooked and my biscuit was really doughy. So I called Denny's back and told the girl who answered the phone she said if I came up their with the food she would replace it. Win I told that I did not have a way back up there she told their was nothing she could do. She couldn't replace the order then or give us a refund for the purchase made .
