Very unassuming restaurant. Looking from the outside on some corner of a random strip mall, I'm surprised this is Yelp's top restaurant in Plano. Once you enter though, suddenly you understand though. Dimly lit decor, friendly wait staff and sushi chefs are just the tip of the iceburg. It got packed really quick, so make reservations if you can. A friend and I split the Superman burrito, eel roll and pink dragon. The fish here is really fresh, velvet like in texture and feel and done very very well. I really liked the Superman: just huge chunks of fish in a wrap; I didn't actually expect it to be a burrito heh. The eel roll was ok, kinda falling apart a bit before it could make it to my plate. The sushi chefs forgot about our pink dragon roll before our waiters came by later on and asked if we had gotten everything: it ended up at the wrong table apparently. Surprised I wasn't compensated for it, but a new one came out pretty quick. Lots of fish on that one, a nice spicy sauce to add some kick and lots of shrimp tempura. Yum. Presentation is meh, but I could care less... Also had some miso soup which was alright, but nothing too special, but by far the best sushi I've had in Plano minus the waiter mix up. Solid sushi here. Typical sushi atmosphere- small quaint restaurant with a sushi bar, the sushi chefs yell at you when you enter the establishment, same ol same ol. For a Monday,this place was very crowded. Did not expect that at all. Waitstaff is great, very attentive. Started with miso and edamame. Both good. Miso here is better than most places. Edamame is nice and salty, my blood pressure says so. Sushi is very good. Fish is fresh. No fishy tastes here.Had an eel roll, superman burrito, crazy horse roll split between me and a friend. Typically, I can usually roll through 3-5 rolls on my own without an issue. This place makes their rolls larger than most places, so it was a pleasant surprise and between those three rolls, I was decently stuffed. The superman burrito is basically a roll on roids- if you took a normal roll and just magnified it by 2, you got the superman burrito- giant cuts of fish rolled into a whole boatload of rice. You eat it like a burrito. Ain't no shame in eating with your hands. This place is a little different than other sushi joints, due to the fact that they have a large assortment of their own special concoctions. Some of them original, some of them insane. To give you some context, I learned to eat sushi in California, where the quality of the fish is amazing even at the cheapest, hole-in-the-wall place. So, I'd like to think I have fairly (but not unreasonably) high standards for sushi. This place has HUGE rolls...good bang for your buck in the sense that you can actually leave this place feeling full without breaking the bank, which is more than you can say for most sushi places. I HIGHLY recommend the Red Mountain roll. The combination of "crab" (California roll) wrapped in salmon, then laid flat and topped with spicy tuna, along with the sauce they use...well, the combination is divine. You also get a lot of fish for your dollar with this roll. Not a fan of spicy tuna? Simply swipe it off the top of the roll and let your dining companion(s) eat it, and you still have an Alaska Roll but you've gotten a ton more fish for just a dollar more. I was NOT a fan of the heavenly roll...it's a bunch of poorly paired fish wrapped in clumsily cut cucumber, and it's impossible to eat in a single bite simply because the minute you lift the roll, the inner contents fall out. Even if you are successful in taking one bite, the remaining contents fall out. And it just was so overpowered by the chunky, thick-cut cucumber wrapping that I could barely taste the fish. Also NOT a fan of the "Hawaiian poki," which actually should be spelled poke and should NOT be served with random chunks of raw tomatoes!! WTF. I did learn to eat poke in Hawaii, too, so I feel like I can speak with some authority on what poke should be. This is NOT it. There was hardly any seasoning/sauce, just teeny bits of tuna chopped up and mixed in with a few chunks of avocado and an unexplainable abundance of raw tomatoes. Gross. I also ordered an ordinary salmon roll and shrimp tempura roll to-go. Imagine my surprise when the total for these two basic rolls (typically $5-7 each at most sushi places) was a stunning $18. Also imagine my surprise when I opened the box to find that the shrimp tempura roll was a California roll with two pieces of tempura shrimp on the side. WTF? The salmon roll was decent but was overpowered by the amount of rice in the roll...the ratio of fish-to-rice was way off for a basic roll like this. I would go back again for the Red Mountain roll, and I probably wouldn't order anything else. read more

Best rolls in DFW. I live in Valley Ranch and drive to this place because it's that good. They serve large, well-constructed rolls filled with fresh fish. I love the variety with their fresh rolls, tempura rolls, and baked rolls. I love their fresh-made sauces. It makes a huge difference. My favorites are the Godzilla, Lion King, and Volcano. Try them. You will thank me. They have more than just sushi on their menu and I suppose I might try it sometime. But I'm always too tempted by the rolls. read more

Sushi is like a everyday craving for me. Usually I would go to edohana in Irving ,because its cheap and not too far.. but the drive to Plano for this?!?! It was so worth it. My friend and I ordered the Ahi tower, and I think the caterpillar roll. They're both amazing... and we only got two orders~ and we barely could finish it... THATS HOW MUCH I LOVE IT. When I eat sushi...I still get a little bit hungry. 5 stars for presentation. 5 stars for freshness. 5 stars for customer service. 5 stars for interior. 5 stars for just AMAZING sushi. Cute little hidden gem. Maybe it's not so hidden since its has already gotten so many rave reviews. They (the whole staff) says hi and bye in Japanese to every SINGLE customer! It was almost distracting since the restart is very small. Our waiter was okay, she didn't really smile much, maybe it was because we had a large table of 10... But the food made up for the lack of service. The rolls seems a bit pricey but when you get the rolls, they're are huge!! So it's worth the price. One word describes this place: Presentation. Its what you see the entire time, and its a factor into the $10+ entrees. I came during lunch on a Monday. Its pretty small, so I can see what other yelpers mean by big crowds and long waits. I sat at the bar, and got to see most of my meal prepared right in front of me. I ordered the dynamite roll, and it was delicious. They pile most of the ingredients on top of their basic California rolls. The grilled onions were wonderful and the seaweed was a welcomed addition.I will say, within the first few bites, I was a little surprised by the hot and cold parts of my meal. For some reason, with the roll being baked, I figured all of it would be warm. The rolls themselves are huge, to the point where you question if you should break them down into two bites. I wondered if I was going to finish everything, but I actually did. I also like how you get a free orange for dessert! this place may be a bit pricey, but I feel its worth it. This is by far the best Americanized sushi I've ever had. Sure, Japanese people may cringe at the idea of a sushi burrito (huge roll stuffed with tuna, salmon, and crab salad) or baked lobster roll (topped with a mountain of fried lobster bites) but they sure taste amazing. My personal favorite was the pinky promise roll - I loved the spiciness of the tuna and albacore, and the topping of scallops. The scallop nigiri is worth a shout out too - the scallop was perfectly textured and very fresh. In fact, for those of you searching for a more authentic japanese experience, I'd recommend the nigiri or sashimi - both of which were well done. The Heavenly roll is perfect for those looking for a little less rice - the roll consists of a combination of various raw fish wrapped in cucumber instead of rice. I'd write more on the others but we honestly ordered so many rolls that I lost track. All of them were fantastic though and I was impressed with the size and creativity of each dish. I've been pretty pleased every time I've been here. The service is pretty quick and the fish is very fresh. Also, their prices are on par with other sushi places, but their portions are so much larger. Expect to be full off just one roll. This time, I got the superman burrito and the chirashi bowl. Similar items but different tastes to some extent. Both were really good and I was stuffed coming out. The last couple of times, I had sushi rolls, sashimi and even some sort of teriyaki and it was really good! Lunch was crowded on Saturday, but again, they're so quick that it's not a big issue. We have enjoyed Densetsu for years. Lately, the to go fish portions have been quite skimpy. Tonight, I ordered to go for our family celebrating ours sons birthday. We ordered 6 rolls / meals. I was quite disappointed w the amount of fish in several of them. The tuna tower, which we ordered 2, had less than a tablespoon of spicy tuna and 1 1/2 tablespoons of tuna and huge scoops of imitation crab as well as rice. I called to share our disappointment. No manager, so spoke to a "second chef". I very nicely explained my disappointment, explained we have been customers for years. They did not care. Did not compensate us at all. Most disappointing. This is the very first negative review of any restaurant or establishment I have made. If this was the very first time this happened, it would be overlooked. But it is not. Food is great. Beautiful presentation. Sushi rolls are huge, a little too much rice for my liking, but nonetheless still good. Their sashimi is fresh. We definitely appreciate that! When you order sake bombs, it's restaurant policy to buy shots for their chefs as well. They strategically line the sake shot on top of the beer and put on a little show prior to knocking them in. The chefs put on wigs, sing and dance. It definitely lifts up the atmosphere! Everyone had a great time, we had to get more sake bombs! I'm sure they appreciated the shots too! I came here with a friend for lunch (her recommendation) and was impressed by the food and service - both were very good for a busy week day lunch, especially considering the area. They have well priced lunch specials of bento boxes and sushi/sashimi combos. All come with miso and salad and range $8.95-$15.95 with sashimi taking the high end of the price range. The sushi being served looked good but I opted for the spicy chicken as I was craving teriyaki. I didn't find it to be at all spicy (hence the drop in 1 star). It was delicious though. Not overly salty and had a dynamic flavor. The salad, gyoza, and miso were also quite good. The service was prompt and kind, despite how busy the restaurant was. They don't open until 11:30 and I was one of 5 people waiting for the doors to open for lunch. The restrooms are clean and the atmosphere is adequate. A few days after our visit my husband was looking at his bank account and they had hit his debit card 2 times for our dinner. The food here is amazing, in ridiculously large portions, and played ever so prettily. There are so many roll options that it's hard to decide which one to get. I'm usually not a big fan of eccentric fusion sushi but Densetsu does it right. All the rolls are crafted very delicately and thoughtfully. And the flavors are just spectacular. I got the spicy Murphy roll - which was spicy tuna, rolled with salmon and topped with freshly cut jalapeños. For how small the place is, it seriously attracts a lot of customers so make sure you either have a reservation or come early. I have a very high standard when it comes to sushi, and this place was impressive. I went for a late lunch/early dinner, and the place was pretty empty. The server was attentive, but didn't hover over me (which I think is easy to do when they are so slow), and I appreciated that. She recommended that for one person, one roll was plenty (most places you would order two). I am so glad I took her advice! I ordered the Hot Night Roll, and it was absolutely delicious, and plenty of food. Am I the only person that thinks rice can make or break a roll? This place had wonderful rice, and not too much of it (the real star is the filling and topping!). The ingredients were all very fresh and the roll had the perfect amount of spice. Afterwards, they bring you a sliced up orange with your check. I wish I had taken a picture because the presentation was wonderful. I asked the server why the orange (I had never seen this before), and she said it was to cleanse the palate and the breath after eating fish. Genius! This is an excellent addition to Plano's local restaurant scene. Very friendly service, excellent food, large portions, reasonable prices, great selection, cozy atmosphere. Densetsu has it all. I had nabeyaki udon, a California roll, salmon skin roll and the complimentary shrimp appetizer that they gave me, probably due to their Grand Opening status. Sometimes, the little details make a big difference. One of the first things I noticed upon arriving at the sushi bar... Jay gave me a huge heap of both ginger and wasabi. At every other sushi restaurant I've been to, while I'm sure I could ask for more, they have always put a too-small amount of ginger and wasabi on the tray. I love ginger! The sushi rolls were EXCELLENT, very beautifully presented, as you can tell from my photos and those of others. The udon was equally awesome, and arrived in a large pot. A 32 oz. Kirin Ichiban topped everything off very nicely. This was a LOT of food. I was stuffed when I left. Yes, this was a gluttonous quantity of food that I had on my first trip to Densetsu, but I wanted to try it out! I will be going there again tonight, for more udon. SO YUMMY! You will not believe how friendly they are in this restaurant. I almost felt isolated because I was listening to the radio with my in-ear phones, but they continued to try to talk to me anyway. We mostly communicated with big smiles and thumbs up, because I was very satisfied with all aspects of my first visit. This will be a very frequent haunt of mine from now on. And a good thing, too, because I've been looking for a nearby Japanese restaurant to populate! Welcome to Plano, Densetsu. Went by after 2 pm on sat... Place was clean, new and everyone greeted with a smile... Ordered the popcorn lobster roll and chicken bento box... So much food... it was all I could do to finish. Roll was fresh, lots of spicy tuna in inside with eel sauce, tempura fried pcs of crawfish...aka,lobster on top... Kinda reminded me if a volcano roll but with lobster. Service was excellent, I will say, I saw other rolls customers were eating and wish i could have tried them all!! Looks like I have a new favorite sushi spot!! read more

I've definitely had much better Japanese food. I came here to meet with friends, but had I known the price and menu beforehand, I would not have come. First of all, I'm vegan, and there were almost no vegetarian options let alone vegan options on the menu (not even a tofu option for protein in stir fries, etc). I ended up just ordering the vegetable roll, a sushi roll with lettuce, avocado, and some pickled vegetables, and a soft tofu appetizer dish with the fish flakes "omitted". The roll was extremely underwhelming and dry, probably because it was half filled with lettuce, which doesn't really add anything taste wise. Definitely not worth $7 +tax. I think changing it to a veggie pumpkin tempura roll would be a much better option. The sushi ginger on the side didn't seem fresh- it was quite dry, like it'd been sitting for a while or something. The tofu dish ($6) was literally cut up soft tofu sprinkled with green onion, with a dipping sauce and fish flakes on the side (even though I explicitly said no fish flakes twice). I guess it was my mistake for expecting more, but I needed some source of protein and this was one of their few tofu dishes. I could have cut up a block of silken tofu myself for less than a dollar from the supermarket. There were actually some flakes that made their way on the tofu, probably accidentally, but still not great. The only thing going for them was the presentation: everything looked beautiful even if the taste was lacking. My friend ordered a chicken Katsu Don, and she didn't even finish half of it, as the sauce was much too sweet. The restaurant deserves points for service and atmosphere; the servers were very friendly, calling "thank you" in Japanese after each customer leaving. Unfortunately though, the food at Densetsu definitely did not live up to our expectations. read more

When I looked at the menu I though their prices were outrageous 14.99 for 2 Spider rolls 4 per roll. What makes Densetsu unique is their rolls are gigantic. The quality of food is great but, I would suggest you go early. Their business hours are a bit vague. If you arrive an hour and fifteen minutes before what the advertised closing time your seating selection is limited because they are cleaning up with a half full restaurant and we were nicely asked if we wanted to take our dinner to go. We decided to stay. Appetizer and sushi rolls came out very quickly...at the same time. We asked for our check because we didn't want to hold them up. Before we left they were turning off the "open" sign 30 minutes before closing time. They started to clean the sushi bar when we sat down but people were still eating sushi. They just couldn't seem to get people out of there quickly enough, with an hour before closing. Maybe change it to "last call" for sushi at 9:30 so they can close the doors at 11?
