5 star dentist! Dr Scaffa and his staff really exceeded them selves w knowledge of dentistry, accommodation and quality of work. I had a severe toothache Sunday morning and couldn't find a open dentist. I called dental arts and this office provided the doctors personal line for emergency's. I got in touch with him immediately and was put in first thing the next morning. What I like most about Dr Scaffa is besides the normal protocol of just taking x-rays and explaining, He takes additional steps of examination to validate the suspected route of cause. In thorough detail, he creates the best options of treatment based on his 30+ yrs of experience. Here is the best part, I was not pushed or pressed to make a decision. I could've got up and left. knowing my pain and his clear understandable explanations, I made the best decision. What I also like about The Dental Arts is their staff. Very warm and friendly. My original dentist that I usually go to is in Jersey and ever since Covid hit, his office has been closed and so I figured to find someone good around SI. When everything opened back up again, the soonest appointments for several offices were far out and I knew I had to get in fast for cleaning because I could already feel the plaque building up and didn't want to get worse or to get a cavity when I never had one in my life. I called Dental Arts Center and they immediately put me down and the guy was so nice and helpful. So I go in today being alittle nervous of what they would tell me, but Tatiana the hygienist was the sweetest! She is very kind, thorough, and explains every detail while making sure your comfortable. Even the other staff in office was very nice and brought me a blanket because I was so cold in their office. After Tatiana completed my cleaning, I met Dr. Scaffa who was also so sweet and gentle. Overall, it was honestly the best dental visit I had in years and I recommended it to my sister in law. First and foremost I would like to say it is a pleasure going to Dr.Scaffa's office for my annual cleanings. In my entire life I've only had one cavity so I haven't had much dental work except for the veneers that Dr.Scaffa did for me and they came out exceptional.. he is very honest and down-to-earth and I even referred my wife to him. He's very modest and straight to the point. He also worked with us on pricing which most dentists don't. I needed a new dentist and a new dentist fast after an emergency (cracked my tooth). I found dental arts on google and had a very good experience from the first conversation. The receptionist was not sure if they took my insurance so he took the info and called me back with all the information and me in to see the Dr. within 24 hours. I'm am the BIGGEST chicken when it comes to the dentist. I was warmly welcomed by Lisa and Donna when I walked in the door. A little chit chat and friendly faces go a long way when you are petrified. Dr. Scaffa was just as wonderful as his staff! He explained everything to me and did a root canal and gave me a temp tooth. The ladies held my hand when i got nervous but I felt nothing. I'm so incredibly happy to have found Dr. Scaffa and his staff. They really made the best out of an unfortunate situation. read more

At my routine 6-month cleaning, I attempted to decline x-rays and requested to have x-rays performed less frequently than every year. The hygienist strongly insisted I must have x-rays done. I proposed every 2 to 3 years instead, or sooner if there is reasonable cause (pain, discomfort, etc.) to suspect a tooth issue. Dr. Scaffa and his hygienist both proceeded to inform me their office policy is that x-rays must be conducted on each patient every 12 to 18 months, or the office will refuse to see the patient for a routine cleaning. I voiced concerns about a medical issue I have for which it is important for me to limit x-ray exposure, and I offered to sign a liability waiver. I also mentioned that guidelines set forth by the American Dental Association do not require or recommend that x-rays be taken as frequently as every 12-18 months. On the contrary, the ADA recommends using x-rays based on patient need (not as a routine, uniform standard) and that adults with good oral health and hygiene (of which I am, and have been for my entire life with the exception of one cavity as a child) are not at increased risk of serious consequences by receiving x-rays every 24-36 months. Dr. Scaffa stated he is aware that his own policy is in direct contradiction with the ADA guidelines, but that it is within his perogative to make any policy he wishes in his practice, regardless of a patient's medical concerns or dental history. Fair enough, but it is certainly concerning when a practice seems more interested in generating money than with individualized care based on patient need and a consideration of a patient's unique medical/dental history. I, or others I have now spoken to about this issue, have also never been to a dentist that mandates x-rays with the threat of refusing to see a healthy patient who requests to decline. I confirmed this the next day when calling a different dentist to arrange my next appointment for a routine cleaning. As an ironic aside, during the same visit, the same hygienist stated she could not walk in front of an x-ray machine that was in use by her coworker because the hygienist was pregnant and therefore could not be too close to the radiation from the machine. Also, please be wary of his 5-star reviews, as he posts signs throughout the office (as of February 2022) offering incentives in exchange for positive online reviews. I can not say enough how great it has been to have dr scaffa I've been going to him for the past 12 years and I was never a person to like going to the dentist. But when I went he is the kindest person and understanding and I enjoy going and he saved my teeth the staff is wonderful just as well. Staten Island Dental Arts Center is without question, one of the best dental clinics on Staten Island. When I moved to SI, a colleague suggested I call Dr Scaffa's office. I've gone to many dentists over the years with very few that I'd write home about however from the moment I walked into the office, I felt a positive energy and was greeted by Dr Scaffa's wife Donna and cheerful staff. The clinic environment was very clean, fresh and well lit. My Dental Hygenist, Collin, a seasoned professional and super friendly, immediately put me at ease and offered dental advice and tips to make the most of my experience. Dr. Scaffa is certainly one of the nicest and most genuine dentists I've encountered. He takes the time to find out about you and makes you feel 'at home'. He spends the time to explain things and asks for feedback before doing anything. He's a dentist that truly engages the patient throughout the visit and never makes you feel pressured or nervous. I continue to go back for regular visits without hesitation...best place ever! Sadly, I'm moving to another state soon but will surely make the trip back if can, for my yearly appointment. I have never been to a dentist as good as Dr. Scaffa and I have had a lot of dental work done I had come in with a dry socket after being told by the dentist who pulled the tooth that caused it that I had to go home and just deal with the pain well turns out Dr Scaffa had different ideas he got me in within hours of the first phone call and was able to clean out the dry socket and fill it with a medicinal paste to relieve my pain by an easy 80% which he told me would be the case. This was on a Monday we then decided a Thursday follow up was the best route to go. Would you believe this man took time out of his personal time at home to call me at 9 pm on Tuesday night to check on my well being that is a quality that goes a long way with me and should with any one. I will be putting a review up anywhere I can to rave about this Dr. And his amazing staff who were beyond compassionate and just overall very nice people. Thank you to you all. And i will be a client of Dr. Scaffa as long as I live on Staten island.
