3 stars for the dental salon. Concern up front: they are giving out unnecessary treatment plans. I have been to multiple visit with some good and some bad experiences. My 1st experience: just a standard cleaning and oral check up which went well but I was told I had a few cavities that needed filling. 2nd experience: had one cavity filled. Went fine except 3 week after filling, the filling popped out and I went in for a replacement and that was an easy process 3rd experience: got my replacement filling from a different dentist, she said the original filling was done over my gum and it popped out when my gum healed. 4th visit was a follow up to get some fillings done with a brand new dentist to avoid my last experience. To my surprise I had no cavities, but rather stains that were in the groves of my teeth, no fillings required. So that is why I am concerned read more

I've been going to the Dental Salon for about 15 years with no disappointments at all. I have had several dental implants and crowns made at the Chicago location. The end result of all of the procedures, have been of my entire satisfaction. Throughout the years I usually go, at least every six months for dental cleanings, which have always been done with the outmost gentleness. The doctors, hygienist and administrative staff have always been there to help me understand any of the procedures, and also get Finance to cover for the cost. AVOID THIS PRACTICE. Their treatment and advice have been dismissive, negligent, and unecessarily costly. In February I saw a dentist at the Dental Salon for a routine cleaning and exam. I asked about the chipped filling in one of my wisdom teeth and the dentist dismissed it as not being a problem and not needing attention. When I returned in October for my next cleaning and exam, I saw a different dentist. I again brought up the chipped filling and that it concerned me. She agreed that it needed to be replaced. We did so. Within a day or two of replacing it, I began experiencing pain which became progressively worse, spreading throughout the whole side of my mouth, causing swelling and sensitivity, difficulty chewing, swallowing, etc. I returned to have it looked at. I saw the same dentist who replaced the filling the week prior. She told me I had an infection in the wisdom tooth where the filling had been replaced. She said the infection had been there already before she'd replaced the filling the week before. (This was, however, the first I was hearing of it.) She said the infection had been caused by the chipped filling which had allowed food and debris to get in (exactly what I had been concerned about when I brought it up in February). She said the infection had not been an issue because I was not experiencing any pain from it, but that it had flared up after the filling was replaced. She recommended that I have a root canal and a crown. I was surprised by her recommendation and the fact that she did not present any other options. A root canal and a crown are an expensive course of treatment, and the wisdom tooth in question is essentially unecessary, anyway. I inquired about extraction. She acknowledged that this was also an option. Again, I probed, asking about pros and cons of root canal and crown vs. extraction. She said if my lower wisdom tooth was extracted (the one with the infection), I would also need to remove the upper wisdom tooth. She also said that because the crown was going on a tooth which was right against my gumline, it might not last as long as other crowns and might need to be replaced within the next 5-10 years. Why then was she presenting this as my best option? I requested to speak with someone in management and shared my concerns about how the chipped filling had been previously dismissed as not an issue and now had clearly caused an issue. The manager I spoke with said they would review the records and get back to me within a couple days. They prescribed antibiotics for the infection, gave me a referral to an oral surgeon, charged me for the visit and x-ray, and have not been heard from since. There are so many issues with how they have handled this situation -- both the individual dentists I saw and the management team. Their advice has been incomplete to the point of negligence, causing problems, pain, and expenses which could otherwise have been avoided. They failed to give me all the relevant information I needed to make informed decisions and provide informed consent for treatment at every step along the way. Had I known about the infection, I would not have gone to the trouble and expense of even replacing the chipped filling in the first place. The second dental opinion I sought confirmed that their treatment has been alarming and not at all in line with basic knowledge or best practices -- beginining with ignoring the chipped filling, to recommending to replace the filling on an already infected wisdom tooth (when replacing the filling was likely to cause the infection to flare), to presenting an expensive root canal and crown as the solution. I have been a patient of the Dental Salon since 2018. They have lost my trust and my business and I share this publicly as a cautionary tale. Going to the dentist is already unpleasant. What is the point of going when they're not even doing their job to protect my teeth, and are instead recommending unecessary expenses for ill-advised treatments? read more

It's a little odd to review your dentist, I guess. But most online reviews are negative - and it's important to make sure good experiences are shared too! I have to say that I was really blown away with the experience at Dental Salon. Granted, "a good dentist visit" is perhaps a low bar to clear... but boy, did they clear it. I've never actually felt comfortable at a dentist, but somehow Dental Salon managed it. Trust me, I'm as mystified as you are. Why can't more dentists be like this? Not only was I actually comfortable, and more or less pain free during the visit... I also left understanding the what and why of my treatment plan. That's also amazing, in my opinion. I can't say that all medical professionals are that patient and thorough with explaining what's happening or with answering my questions. When my former dentist office closed without notice, I was super stressed about where to go next. I found Dental Salon due to proximity, but I have since moved and continue to go back to the office because of excellent experiences. Dental Salon has you fill out a survey before your first visit, that asks questions about your past dental experiences. Dr. Khanna reviewed this and made sure to discuss my past experiences and concerns, to ensure I never had to go through these things again. All the hygienists and assistants have been kind to me for every visit. I feel like I get the appropriate amount of attention and support, along with all my questions answered. It might be somewhere in my records (or it's just their practice), but they always tell me what they're doing and what I should expect. I LOVE that because it makes me feel much more settled and clear of what's going on, especially when feeling as vulnerable as getting dental work. I went through Invisalign recently, and the Dental Salon team was kind, helpful, and thorough. I had lots of questions and had support along the way. Dr. Khanna also didn't pressure me to start Invisalign. He said I could wait years, but my problem would continue to get worse, so it was really up to me. He also reviewed my Invisalign plan on the computer, so I knew what my treatment plan looked. He was so thorough and helpful throughout, and I am so glad for my decision. I live a bit farther away now after moving, but the exceptional patient care keeps me going back. This is for people with dental anxiety: the dentist in general is the only place I've had actual panic attacks. It's a real condition IYKYK. This practice helped me so much to make my experience manageable. They were very empathetic and kind and made sure I felt almost zero pain. They have exam rooms with big windows (I would ask for one of those in advance) which helped a lot. Everything was explained to me in a very calm, clear way so I knew what to expect at all times. I visited the Dental Salon for the first time this week. It was my first time visiting a dentist other than the one I grew up with, so naturally, I was a little nervous. They were incredibly comforting. I had some issues with my insurance, but we were able to get it sorted out without too much of a headache. When I entered the office, they immediately greeted me and helped me settle in. Throughout the entire process, they updated me on what would happen next, how long I would wait, etc. They were very communicative and helpful. I have always been extremely happy with my experiences at Dental Salon. I've been going to them for years now, and won't even consider going anywhere else. I usually see Dr. Stef, but everyone I've seen has been great. There's never any wait, the pricing is clearly explained, the facilities are comfortable, and everyone who works there does their best to put me at ease. They are very clear about what's needed, but I've never felt like they push extra procedures or anything on me (something that's happened at other places.) In addition to regular 6 month check ups, I've had numerous crowns put on, as well as several emergency procedures, and they did a fantastic job with all of it.
