We had a very disappointing experience. My teen was scheduled for dental work with nitrous oxide due to anxiety, but we were never informed of a "no eating one hour before" rule until we arrived--after lunch. The dentist told us it was fine and not to worry, yet we were later charged a $100 "cancellation fee" for an appointment we did not cancel.
When I called, the office changed their story about how and when we were supposedly informed. This inconsistency, combined with the lack of written instructions, felt dishonest and unprofessional. To make matters worse, the charge was sent to collections.
This incident increased my teen's fear and distrust of dentists, which is heartbreaking. Compassion and clear communication are essential in healthcare, and unfortunately, this practice failed badly on both.
Also, If this "no-eating" rule is truly important, it should be clearly provided in writing before the appointment instead of relying on verbal reminders. That would prevent confusion and eliminate any "he said, she said" disputes.
