We came back today, a holiday Monday morning. Unfortunately, the waitress we had today was not the best. She didn't check in on us until after 10 minutes we had been seated, by a different waitress, and kept checking in on the table next to us while ignoring us. We have been here 2 times before and both times our waitress was fantastic, which is why this time it was a shock to us that this was not the case, especially since the place wasn't as packed as it usually is. The food was amazing, definitely top tier diner food. Thw omelette I ate in the restaurant and the pancakes I got to go both of which were good experiences. The omelette was very tasty and a solid portion size. The pancakes were very fluffy and soft, and they smelled so good in the car I knew they were going to be great. The service was quick and they were very attentive there. The diner itself is small and offers a decent amount of seating for parties under 6, I'd call to check if you're going with more people. Also it's on Main Street so it does not have a separate parking area but there is a lot of parking on the street. read more

This is my second time here. First time for breakfast this time for lunch. Small diner in downtown Denville. Not many tables but both times I've been able to walk in and sit down. They also have some tables outside. The staff is friendly and answers all questions. Their burgers are pretty good! The waitress told me they're freshly made which was the selling point for me. On a friends suggestion I took a short ride to downtown Denville for lunch at the Denville Diner. Located on Broadway in the middle of Denville's very cool, eclectic dining scene, I was expecting your basic diner with often great food, but basically cookie cutter style ambiance. This small venue was quite different. With cozy, small town Americana décor, a homey, mom and pop vibe, with a sort of yuppie touch, it presented a very vibrant, comfortable, and interesting dining scene. Plus, I loved the very large American flag that covered a portion of one wall. The place was bustling, yet the staff was very attentive and provided fast, friendly, and welcoming service. There is also dining outside if that's your preference, and by the time we left there were people lined up outside to get in. That speaks for itself. I had a Rueben Sandwich, which was very tasty. Not too big, not too small, and the sandwich was well made, with ample slices of corned beef, and plenty of sauerkraut; enough to leave me satisfied. My friend had a 1+1+1+1 ((French Toast, pancake, egg, and sausage combo), sorry I was to slow to get a picture of that dish, but it looked good. No doubt there's been a lot of talk of all the new places in town with many posts about the experiences. While these new places are always a welcome to what is already a fantastic dinning scene in downtown Denville, we can't forgot about the Denville landmarks that are just as awesome. Today's breakfast outing was to the Denville Diner, located at 17 Broadway pretty much smack dab in the center of downtown Denville. When going out for breakfast with two teenagers, you really don't have to be to concerned about waiting in lines because by the time we actually got out the door, the crowds were gone and we only waited for a few minutes before sitting down. Whenever I go for breakfast, a great way to start off the meal is the time it takes to sit down, have a server get the drink order in, until how long it takes to sip my coffee and will say Denville Diner did a great job! The menu had a great choice of lunch and breakfast choices and they even get extra points for their "plant based" menu options that were available. To set the record straight, I'm a meat and potatoes guy, but happy to see these options are available for my daughter. We stuck with breakfast and had the 1+1+1+1 (Frenchtoast, pancake, egg and sausage - instead of the sausage, they accommodated and egg swap without any hassle), the chocolate chip pancakes and a side of bacon, and the Spicey Omelet (Chicken sausage, jalapenos, roasted peppers and mozzarella cheese) with some whole wheat toast. The food was prepared quickly and was fresh and tasty and the service was good. A refill on the coffee was poured which also makes for a great dinning experience. Overall, it was a great meal and a great reminder to support all the local businesses in town. Not sure how long they have been around, but they are definitely worth visiting when looking for a great breakfast spot. I left full and satisfied and that is always a win in my book. read more

Maybe this place was a miss the day we went but ... will not be returning. Every single order we had was wrong. 1. Ordered two orange juice's, two waters and one coffee and we only got the juice. Waitress didn't hear our other two drink orders, we had to ask twice. 2. Ordered corned beef hash and a side of Taylor ham, waitress didn't hear the corned beef hash and only brought out eggs with a side a ham. 3. Ordered the strawberries and cream French toast that comes with fresh strawberries and whipped cream and it was soggy and came dolloped with lemon ricotta, the lemon ricotta compliments a pancake special they had, so kitchen must've not been paying attention. 4. Ordered 1 egg with home fries and toast and only got 1 egg - that was covered in grease and a long hair ... disgusting. You can see the grease on my plate and they looked like someone's leftovers. We had two separate severs for the drinks and food so unsure if they just weren't fully paying attention, overwhelmed or what; however, they were very nice. As for the hair and greasy nasty scrambled eggs that looked like someone leftovers, unacceptable. The waitress also took really long for our check. Like oddly long. My wife and I had lunch at the Denville Diner today and were disappointed. I have been reading good reviews, and since we were in the area, and my usual place there is closed on Mondays, I figured we'd give it a shot. The service was average, what you might expect, not overly friendly but they get you what you ordered.. We ordered one chicken soup , one bowl of chili, and a turkey club to split. My wife liked the chicken soup, and I thought the chili was pretty good, but I was shocked to see they charge $7.95 for a medium size bowl of soup. The turkey club was the skimpiest turkey club i've ever seen. Two slices of turkey , hardly any bacon, with lettuce and tomato. No pickle no Cole slaw no chips $10.95. The turkey club is my standard diner order, how I form my opinion of a place to decide if I'm coming back or not. I'm not coming back. read more

I've been craving waffles or pancakes for a while now. I went to three different locations before stumbling upon Denville Diner, and man am I SOOO glad that I did! I decided to be adventurous today and ordered the lemon ricotta blueberry pancakes and they were .... Well... chefs kiss The pancake was so light and fluffy. The ricotta topping had the perfect balance of sweet and tart. The fresh bananas, blueberries and strawberries just added the perfect texture to each bite. Truly a delicious meal. I had the incredible fortune to find myself in Denville this morning with both an empty stomach and two hours to fill. The Denville Diner was the perfect solution. I was able to sit in leisure while being introduced to the most incredibly authentic Corned Beef Hash I've ever come across. A hearty breakfast being necessary for the later toils of the day. Kathy was not just a joy, but was also completely understanding that I'd be sitting long enough to get through a few chapters in a rather long book. The Denville Diner is worth the trip for breakfast and I will see if I can return for their "Gourmet Burger Pop-Up" later in the week. read more

The last time that I had been to the Denville Diner, which was several years ago, it looked like a run down typical town diner with food to match. Fast forward to today, wow, what a difference a new owner can make. The place has been completely gutted and renovated to an open, modern concept with an equally awesome menu to match. The service was superb, the coffee was delicious, and the food was mouth watering. Both my wife and I got typical breakfast faire. I got the diner's special version of corned beef hash, eggs over easy, toast, potatoes. It was delicious, flavorful, and extremely delicious and well portioned (so much so, that I was wasn't able to eat the pancake I ordered). Traveled from NY to PA googled for a nice breakfast place and I found Denville Diner. Right off the I80. The Ambience is calm and very homey mostly older people but they were able to accommodate us and had enough high chairs. We were 2 groups of 1st group of 6 ( parents and 4 kids (6,4,2,1) and second group of 4 people. The servers were so kind, considerate, checked in on us constantly. The food was amazing we ordered goat cheese omelette, cheese omelette, 2 pancake stacks, chocolate chip pancakes, French toast, eggs Benedict . Can I say the food was to die for! It smelled so good and tasted amazing! Kids gobbled it up. Kids got hot chocolate and got whipped cream on top. This diner is a treat! It's worth stopping by. Only things I would recommend that could have been better to heighten the experience would be to: 1. adding a changing station in the bathroom. 2. Tables tops are a bit loose, so the slightest bump and drinks get spilled. 3. Coffee taste was nothing special could have been better. 4. Maybe adding maple syrup. read more

We usually are out and about in Morristown, but wanted to check out Denville for breakfast. The diner is on the Main Street it's small but has a great vibe, the atmosphere is small town America with where regulars come in and the 2 Hosts or owners know you. The food is outstanding the Apple French-toast was not soggy with syrup and had an upscale look and taste, coffee was fresh and plentiful. I would definitely recommend it, and the only reason not 5 stars is the little surcharge for noncash transactions which doesn't make sense. read more

I hardly ever leave reviews but felt this experience warranted one. Been here a few times and the food is good. Unfortunately today my friend and I had a poor experience. When we were ready to order we were told to wait as the waitress was not sure of the order people were next. We explained that we were seated at the same time as the couple next to us whose order had just been taken. Then when ordering I requested a take home order however was told it would be taken once we are served. The waitress forgot and I got up to place the order. She did not come by our table to see how things were. Then we were asked to leave our table and stand at the bar (which did not have enough seats for us) as there was a party waiting while we waited for our take home order. We understand it was busy but there was an attitude each time we were addressed. Not sure if it was a fluke or if intended as we were the only 2 of color there. After all the years of driving on route 80 up to PA I can't believe I have been overlooking the Denville diner, which is probably the best diner I've been to in a 15 mile radius (probably larger). It's a case of overlooking a gem right under your nose. It's understandable because it is not visible from route 80, but it is located on the main street a 1 minute off of the highway. This whole area has a great 1950s old fashioned town feel (like the Erie, PA depicted in the movie "That Thing You Do!") and has many great shops (a bonus) The diner is relatively small with comfortable booths and a long counter. Formica decor with many classic diner/coffee shop elements. The place was busy, and it would probably be more so if it wasn't so early and rainy. Plenty of helpful waitstaff here for the size of the place - all very friendly, efficient, helpful and ladies - do any men work here? An observation, but not complaining at all :). The food has all the classic diner staples for breakfast, but I was impressed with the special menu with items like pancakes made with quinoa, smoked salmon scrambled eggs, chorizo and bean hash for some examples. I went with the vege hash topped with over easy eggs and asiago cheese this also came with a choice of sides I choose the blueberry biscuit with apricot jelly. My wife had a swiss omelet with a side of bacon - this came with excellent potatoes and toast. The coffee here was very good and the refills plentiful. With prices that are easy on the wallet, great food, service and old fashioned decor this place has become my new breakfast/lunch destination on my way to see my folks in the sticks!
