Came on a Tuesday at 730 with a large group for a birthday dinner. This was my second time here and I'd say this time was better than the first but it was still meh. I ordered the Pasta DePalma with prosciutto added as a premium topping. The prosciutto comes baked into the cheese, not actually on top so it may look a little underwhelming but trust it's actually there! Id highly suggest adding a topping though because without it the taste is very underwhelming. I added pepper and salt to taste. They are large group friendly, they have a little private room for groups which is convenient. But they only let you split the bill 1-4 ways as a heads up. Overall, decent pasta. Nothing super crazy but it gets the job done. read more

Absolutely loved having dinner at DePalma's with my daughter and her friends after looking for her wedding dress in Athens Ga.. We ordered several appetizers to start with and they were all phenomenal. Stuffed mushrooms, Mozzarella and Pomodori, Goat Cheese Ravioli with spiced walnuts, gorgonzola & a sweet pear wine sauce ( my fav), and savory Breadsticks dough braided with spinach & onion or meatball & onion, baked with mozzarella half order 12. full order 16. (breadsticks are made from scratch, yesss! For dinner I ordered Pasta Margherita penne with tomato, basil, red onion, garlic & fresh mozzarella and it was delicious. I sampled off the other plates as we all did and was extremely pleased with all the flavors of the others dishes. Beef Short Rib Ravioli with asparagus, thyme and wild mushroom, Fettuccine di Parma Alfredo, pancetta, peas & grilled chicken, and we all had side salads and I chose a jalapeño-citrus vinaigrette. 2 Stars - Disappointed Lunch in the Middle of a Busy Workday I'm in Athens for work this week and have been loving the local vibe -- trying out different spots during my lunch breaks has been a highlight. I came into this Italian restaurant really hungry and excited to enjoy a nice meal. Unfortunately, it didn't go the way I hoped. The service felt really inattentive. After my food was dropped off, they gave me a spoon for my pasta ---- nothing. I had to chase down a server just to be able to eat get the right utensils after a 30 mins waited for my lunch. When you're on a tight lunch break, that kind of delay really ruins the flow. The food itself was also surprisingly plain. I spent 51$ for the pasta and a pizza. But this meal didn't hit the mark at all. In the end, I boxed it up after the first taste and gave it to someone in need, because it just didn't feel worth eating, tired of the service, taste like water. Still love Athens and will keep exploring, but this spot isn't one I'd return to. read more

I saw a lot of mixed reviews before coming here, which made me skeptical at first, but was proved wrong. We had a reservation and it wasn't as busy so the wait was nothing. Once we got seated, we were greeted by our server and got us all settled in with drinks. We ordered the breadsticks and tomato and pomorio (basically a caprese salad), which were both good. We also ordered the seafood charmaine, spaghetti with homemade meatballs, and ceasar salad with chicken. It took some time, but not too long till the point i was getting impatient. Everything came out nice, tasted good, but my only downside is the pasta sauces were very chunky. I personally like my pasta sauce more saucy than chunky, so that was the only downside. The interior was dim, and gave off a fancy restaurant, but nothing too serious. Overall, I had a good experience, and would go and try something else!! read more

Out to lunch and dinner with others from work , in groups for a little while. Keep trying new things to try & find a good dish. Small amounts for expensive prices. Never got a good pizza. Most times crust is hard and difficult to eat . Last two times of just cheese pizza even had very little cheese on it at all and we thought did they forget it . We all thought it would be a better place and better quality food due to the high prices. After our fish dinners here and us getting "Very sick "and to see Dr.s for bad stomach distress, the quality is severely lacking is this case. We ask the server and ask manager bc the fish had a little odor of to fishy which usually means , we have just learned from Dr's. that is bad fish. Server and manager seemed angry we ask about it .. Needless to say none of us will be retuning .BC we all just work 4 to 7 miles away we will be going to better quality restaurants . Costumer service will not be missed either. read more

We arrived early for dinner on a Wednesday and the place was not crowded. It was quiet and had a feel of an older restaurant with a nice wooden bar. Our server was top notch and got us started off right away with our drink order. We were hungry from a long day of training so we went ahead and put our food order in at the same time. The food came out quick and everyone was happy with their choice. Dessert was a must have and the cheesecakes and crème brûlée were delicious. This place is usually my favourite in downtown Athens with its tasty pasta and freshly made appetisers. When I recently visited, they took off some significantly tasty vegetarian dishes such as eggplant Parm and so on from the menu (which was very disappointing to be honest). The ravioli was deep fried instead of pan fry as said in the menu and the sauce was super salty. The pizza was ok but they have definitely slipped down on quality I must say. Very disappointed to see one of my fav restaurants go down in quality! I hope they get the favourite dishes back on menu! read more

I just had a lovely experience at this Italian restaurant in downtown Athens. Our waiter, Austin, was fantastic and helpful in getting us the best drinks and entrees. The complimentary, and of course shwae, bread with oil was a perfect starter. All of the appetizers we ordered (the mozerella, focaccia, breadsticks, and ravioli) were delightful in their own unique ways. I would highly recommend the mezcal margarita, as well as the tortellini and chicken sausage dish. Other than that, the pizza had good seasoned crust but overall was average. Walked inside and it felt like a truly authentic Italian restaurant, all the way down to the black and white pictures on the wall. The bread and oil starters were so delicious! The bread was flavorful and crispy. I ordered the white sauce mushroom pizza and that was my favorite! The margarita and Greek pizza were also super good and flavorful! The Greek pizza was stuffed with veggies and had a drizzle of balsamic. All of the pizzas were cooked perfectly and had just the right amount of crunch. Everything was super tasty here and was well priced for the amount of food we got! The servers were also really friendly. We are in town for the holidays and decided to go get something to eat last night. Here's my "review" Positive...staff was polite. Good vibe. Food tasted good. Negative... Extremely small portions. My son got a plate of pasta that he ate in 3 bites, maybe 4. My wife's pasta was not fresh but pre portioned out and had been frozen. Not thawed at well. Way overpriced. 6 people with one plate of small portion pasta, all drinking water was just shy of $200. Don't get me wrong I don't mind one but to pay good money for quality and portioned out well...this was not that. Just be prepared if you go here. My family and I will not be back. I'm surprised this place can survive in a college town with these prices. read more

DePalma's has a highly classy, classic vibe: old school posters, stained glass interior windows, and wine bottles abound. They have booths in the back, as well as a bar and private room. On the other side of the restaurant are tables by the window. It's one of the more charming places in downtown Athens. The staff is really nice. They make great pasta, especially the sweet potato gnocchi, but the sandwiches are mediocre. The foccacia bread is way overbaked, which is weird because the bread that comes with the olive oil is amazing. read more

Went there for lunch today. The people were very nice and it is a comfy little place, good ambiance but we didn't even get to eat our food. Arrived at 12:10 and left at 1:20. It took so long we just had to get the bill and have it boxed without eating a bite. While waiting I had two dirty martinis, one was filled to the top and the other was literally filled half way and tasted completely different. Here is a picture of my "lasagna" I opened after we left; no sauce, so very dry with large chunks of dry chicken in it. I ate one bite then threw it away even though I was still hungry. Well, I wanted to have a nice Father's Day dinner with my wife and daughter, but DePalma's had other ideas for me. We will start with the appetizers round. I placed an order for calamari and stuffed mushrooms, no problem, right? Well, 15 minutes after placing said order, the waiter comes to the table to tell us they ran out of calamari along with table bread. Moving to the main course, everything was going fine. We all knew what we wanted, but 5 minutes after I placed mine, I got told they ran out of lasagna. So okay, that's fine. I asked the waiter to tell me what you do have. I ordered spaghetti with meatballs. Once the food arrived, it all looked great, but the looks were very deceiving. We will start with my wife's she ordered a make your own type dish where you choose pasta, sauce, and protein. It had a great taste, but it was more like a water soup. They did not drain the noodles before putting the dish together. So her food had a great taste but the amount of water just made it unpleasant. Now to my daughter, she ordered chicken alfredo it looked great but had no taste at all zero flavor. I hate Alfredo, but I could eat it because it had no taste. Now to mine, it looked like they drained the pot they cooked the noodles in and gave me all the small parts that fell to the bottom of the pot. Not one noodle longer than 2 inches. The noodles were so overcooked it was just mush. So my 28 dollar dish got sent back, and I went without dinner on Father's Day. This was my favorite Italian restaurant but not sure if I will return after this experience. read more

Staff were wearing masks and the place wasn't busy In the least and staff were cleaning and wiping down surfaces. We had a reservation for 7:30 for 4 on a Friday night, and we were seated within a few minutes of arriving - thumbs up! Someone brought water to the table, but we didn't see a waiter for another 15 minutes. No big deal, as we weren't in a hurry. But it went down hill from there! Our waiter can best be described as an introvert on ADHD meds! He was hesitant to approach the table, he couldn't answer basic questions about the menu, and after we ordered, we didn't see him again for about an hour!! Seriously, this guy should NOT be a waiter at a restaurant where the total bill for 4 people is over $200. It's an insult. We each had a pasta dish, and reviews were about the same - it's OK/good. I had chicken parmigiana, and it was just OK. Actually, it was below average, but I'll give it the benefit of the doubt as some might like overcooked chicken, so I'll just say it was "OK". Portion size was very small, which is very unusual in an Italian restaurant. The bread appetizer with spinach and melted Gouda was ... just OK. Honestly, this was a very disappointing visit to a restaurant that has been a family favorite since it opened in the late 80s. It has gone so far downhill that it is completely unrecognizable from its former glory. It's a hard pass from now on! read more

I rarely go for any Italian places when out cause I'm picky. I walked in and there was a young guy behind bar and asked about old fashioned's well he made a stellar one, or was it three or four.. hm well they were good and he was really knowledgeable about the menu and the bar as well. I started with a Caesar and was torn on an entree or a calzone. I know really random but I will say that I haven't had a really good calzone in some time. That changed tonight I had pepperoni, prosciutto and Gorgonzola. It was the perfect size and wicked tasty. Wasn't a huge fan of the sauce, it tasted a little sweet for me but a little chili flake made it perfect. The calzone didn't even need the sauce anyway! It was a stormy and spooky Friday night in Athens. My friend and I contemplated getting food delivered, but we really needed to get out of the house. We ran into DePalma's as the rain poured down. We were welcomed to a cozy, dimly lit booth at the very back of the restaurant. We had a lovely wine that my friend recommended. I went with a simple fettuccine alfredo - it really hit the spot. After being in the pouring rain, a glass of red wine and cheesy pasta was perfect. The serving sizes are generous size that you don't leave hungry. Highly recommend. read more

So full disclosure. I used to wait tables here 20+ years ago. I loved working here because the staff was great and the food fantastic. So I had very high expectations coming back after all this time. Wow. It was even better than I remembered. The spinach and onion breadsticks were heavenly. The angel hair with pesto was delicious. And my family loved the pizza. Service was friendly and efficient. I had a wonderful main course here and had a very friendly helpful waiter. i had pick your own pasta and sauce. I had the Fettuccine with bolognese. It was really good and I couldn't stop eating the focaccia bread with oil and balsamic vinegar that came with it. The only negative I would say about the whole meal was dessert. I got the crème brûlée. I get this normally as my go to dessert so I am familiar with what it should taste like. The dessert that was brought to me tasted like a ramekin of baked scrambled eggs with a sugar crust. This was nothing like crème brûlée is supposed to taste like. It wasn't bad per se but very weird combo of having sugar on top of scrambled eggs. The rest of the meal was so good it didn't effect my rating it just means I won't order that next time I'm here. I was looking for a dog friendly joint in Athens and came across some reviews for De Palma's. There was a couple of other restaurants I saw but their prices weren't reasonable in my book so DePalma's it was! This is a wonderful dog friendly place if you're in Athens. They have about six or seven tables right in front on Broad Street that have two to four chairs each and room for the pups. The wait staff brought out a bowl of water for my dog immediately and he even got to canoodle with a cute girl at the table next to us. When I looked at the menu, I was completely pleased. They have standard Italian fare, pizza, pasta, salads, appetizers and tons of wine with prices that didn't make me wince. Score! I got the $6 pinot noir and it did the trick. Since it was June .....in Georgia and we were sitting outside, pasta or pizza was the last thing on my mind. I needed to cool down! I ordered the Insalata Cecilia-grilled shrimp, scallops, pineapple & tomatoes with feta over field greens with jalapeño-citrus vinaigrette. Holy crap, this was a refreshing salad with a generous portion of seafood. Pair that up with a handful of feta cheese and I was in hog heaven. My mom got the pepperoni and green pepper pizza. I tried a sliver of the pizza and wasn't too impressed. The pizza was bogged down with sauce and make it soggy plus the sauce was very sweet. Even if I didn't enjoy it, my dog ended up getting some of the pepperoni so everyone wins!
