Stayed here on 2 separate nights roughly two weeks part as we flew in and out of Vienna airport…read more The first night we checked in was at quite a late hour and we made a last minute reservation right before 11pm. We arrived, parked, had a couple drinks in the bar, then went to our room. 6am breakfast then left. Staff were about to go home when we got there but they were helpful in answering our questions despite the late hour. The bar was open until 12am and the bartender was very kind. The seating is clean and the ambient lighting is extremely soothing. I imagine several weary travelers have enjoying the serenity of this bar and its simple menu. The room was quite small but I didn't care because I was doped up on Dramamine and Moretti and just wanted to lay down. The room on our first visit had hardwood flooring and a newly remodeled bathroom with an open shower design that had a half glass wall but no door. Cold. Radiator in the bathroom takes a while to warm up so my wash was militant. Body wash/Shampoo/Conditioner soap was singular and there were no toiletries by the sink. Small counter space and even smaller floor area. But I slept like a dead person for 3 hours then woke up realizing I wasn't in Kansas anymore and suddenly had nervous energy to wash up and leave. The newer rooms I assume are all this way since on our second night, we were given a room on a lower floor and this room was large, had carpeting, and the bathroom was generous. I enjoyed this room far more than the other one two weeks prior, and the shower, though a corner design, had a door (which didn't close entirely and surprised me in terms of workmanship and location) and decent water pressure. Our second night had a more reasonable check in hour at roughly 5pm and we sat at the bar again for a few hours with a few pints and we shared a meal of veal butter steaks with a side of mashed potatoes and frozen pea and carrots. I remember the bar the most and felt more comfortable there than in the room, but the beds were quite nice as well as the blankets and sheets. I slept very well this second night, though we did have an early start again and another 6am breakfast. Breakfast is wonderful, truly enjoyable. Fresh breads and pastries with variety and textures. Cold bar is plentiful with meats and cheeses, vegetables and spreads. Fresh orange juice and decent coffee/espresso. Eggs/omelettes are also on offer depending on the day. Fresh fruit and fruit cups are also nice for those traveling since the body is probably screaming for food that didn't come from a bag or box. The entire hotel is clean and simple and I will make this a default stay from now on.

Plus the proximity to the Uban made this a great property. I do have to mention that the food at this location was outstanding. Taking a recommendation from the staff, I ended up ordering a burger. To my surprise, this burger was out of this world delicious (even though they didn't have my ranch dressing --- i know it's an American thing). :) The breakfast buffet was also extensive offering any/all options. Service was great with check-in and check-out being a breeze. If you are looking to stay in Vienna on a budget, this location offers a lot.

The step down from the tub to the floor is quite steep but there is no safety handle or anything to hold on to. Seems very dangerous. There are no ice machines, even though there are places for them. You have to go all the way down to the bar to get ice. No electric outlets on one side of the bed. There are those awful card slots by the door for the electricity so when you come back to your room, the AC has been off for hours and it's hot and it takes hours to cool down again. While I was there, several youth sports teams checked in. Good for business. Full bookings. But no additional provisions were made for the breakfast buffet. The young people were like swarms of locust. Of course. Long lines and empty food containers. Really ridiculous. Generally not what I was expecting from Marriott.

Due to it's almost austere location, I'm not sure if I would intentionally choose it, however, it definitely caters to the airline industry. Along with us, were literally dozens of others all sent there from the airline. The architecture is extremely unique! It stands out like an oasis in a desert, towering above everything else nearby. Speaking of nearby, it's situated right next to a huge outlet mall with all the name brand stores, e.g. Adidas, Nike, Gucci and so on. It's almost as if you're in the States when gazing upon its sheer size. Mind you, this whole spread is an easy 30 miles from the Vienna Airport. Once again, almost austere. The lobby has a small bar/restaurant to cater to their stranded travelers in true opportunistic fashion. Not bad, but that burger was nowhere near a 16 Euro burger. Is any burger, by the way? The rooms are very accommodating, clean and comfy. Actually refreshingly sizey compared to many European hotels. Very modern and stylish! The staff was extremely nice! They took care of everything, to include providing us with a box breakfast for the road since we had to roll out at 0445 the following morning. In addition, they arranged for our taxi the following morning and like clockwork, the driver was there waiting for us as we checked out. Other than the fact that our return flight to Germany was delayed a day, this hotel experience turned out to be a nice respite in an otherwise hectic and tiring adventure. Once again, I doubt I'd intentionally stay here, but if you're hankering for a shopping spree at that super mall, or the airline puts you up, I'm sure you'll be pleased with the stay. Cheers!

I definitely wouldn't recommend staying here if you need a good sleep and you're over 5'5 feet…read moretall. They put two really small twin size beds in a really small room. My dad and I stayed here for Nova Rock (4 day rock festival) and we barely slept at all. The room service staff was very rude and stingy we constantly had to ask for another pillow because the only give you one that basically feels like its filled with tissues. They came and made the bed but didnt clean anything else and then would turn off the air conditioning so it was uncomfortably hot in the room when we got back. Every time we would call they would complain bluntly and ask why we needed things like forks or a hair dryer. I feel bad writing this because although the stay was over all not very good for the price the desk girls were very very kind and helpful. The hotel was pretty clean and the food downstairs was really good, I would recommend the goulash. The breakfast buffet was also really good.

Perfect spot to stay in Vienna!…read more First of all, I want to highlight how wonderful and accommodating Ulla Spiess is! I may have been a bit of a difficult visitor after I wanted to swtich rooms. Ulla was accommodating and wonderful about everything. She's also quite nice and really friendly. I visited this spot recently and it really is a super spot to stay in Vienna. It is approximately 3 stops from the "center" of town (depending on what you consider the center) and it's really easy to navigate the trains. The location that the B&B is in is really quaint and there are local restaurants nearby as well, so you don't have to travel to the more touristy area. Ulla had a great restaurant recommendation for my first night there (delicious and inexpensive!). I stayed four nights and had a great time. I was in two rooms while I was there (my fault that I moved). Both rooms were impeccably clean and comfortable. The breakfast area is really charming and there is an area that has glass windows where you can feel like you are eating in the garden. The food is really great and fresh. Cheeses, meats, cereals, juices, pastries...I could go on and on. The made to order scrambled eggs are great, too! Coffee is delicious! Everyone is really helpful and they really make you feel like you are staying in their home. The B&B is expanding - I'm not sure when everything will be open, but there may be more room options soon. Thanks to Hotel Pension Spiess & Spiess Appartements for a great visit! I hope to be back!

As a matter of a fact you could use the touchscreen device to check in and even print the keycards for your room. The check in area doubled as both a bar and the breakfast area. In the US we would have called it trendy and hipster and I think that it would have fit right into the Kimpton or Ace hotel groups. Our room ended up being on the fifth floor and we had to pass both a sun terrace and a yoga terrace. Whenever we made it to our room we entered to the music of the radio that was on in the hall. They actually had a Samsung Galaxy tied to the lock. Unfortunately, I ended up having some issues with it turning on in the middle of the night but powering it off quickly solved that. Our room itself was different and interesting. There was a large flat screen tv on a desk and then side by side shower and toilet areas. These were both quite ample in size but the weird thing was that the toilet only had frosted glass outside of it while the shower had clear glass and a curtain to pull over it. Rounding out the room was the sink/mirror area. The bed in the room ended up being comfortable although I found it weird that a room for 2 would have 1 normal sized pillow and 1 mini pillow on the bed. Both the bathroom and sink had ample amounts of soap and other toiletries in them. The bottom line for me is that I would come back here again in the future and would recommend everyone else to as well. If I had stayed here in the US I would have expected droves of hipsters around but this place seemed to cater to both the business and vacation crowd, none of which were actually hipsters. Due to that I really ended up enjoying the vibe of this place and I feel like we got good value for our money.

It is next to a Shell gas station and a car dealership, but I felt safe walking to and from the conference. There is also a metro line about a five minute walk from the hotel. I don't know anything about parking there but the breakfast that came with our stay had plenty of food. Sorry I didn't take any pictures. There were two kinds of egg, sausage, cheeses, and cold cuts, cereal, a pancake maker, lots of breads, different kinds of coffees, three juices and a machine where you could make your own fresh carrot and apple juice. The room was clean and just what we needed. The toilet is in its own little room. the shower is in the room with the bedroom however there was a curtain that could be pulled to separate it off. Our room was in a different building than the main hotel and breakfast area. But it was a 15 second Walk in the back. There was a full service bar downstairs, which was pretty lively at night. Plenty of things to choose from there. It was a solid option convenient to the convention center. If I were going to Vienna to sightsee only I would probably not stay there as it is on the opposite side of the river, but it's convenience to the metro station made going into town very simple. Our last day was the day of the Vienna marathon. It was a bit crazy outside our hotel and given we were not there for the marathon it made getting to the metro a little more complicated. However, there is a place to cross the main street underneath the road right by the metro so don't you know that trick you are all set to go.

The general area of the hotel seems a little sketchy, but the hotel itself is quite clean and updated. The rooms are very utilitarian, clearly geared toward a younger population that are satisfied with just the basics. Unlike our other scheduled hotels on our rail tour, this was the only hotel that charged guests for breakfast (and not a small sum at 23 €). I passed on this opportunity and bought my breakfast in town and on the train after my departure the final morning. The check in was self-service, which seems a little impersonal to me, but the bright side was we were able to check in before 1:00 pm. Staff that issued our room cards were friendly and answered our questions about the local tram. There was a free area to get water, so we used it to fill our travel bottles in the never ending battle to stay hydrated following nights of mulled wine. That was a feature none of our other hotels had, so this was a big plus. This hotel is definitely worth considering, just don't expect any luxury touches.
