I called Babcock dermatology about an important issue I had very early in the day. I called back later in the day and was told they are very busy and nurses do call backs at the end of the day. NO one called me back. I am not used to Dr. Babcock's staff not being timely and showing concern. When I have reached out to them over the years they seemed to convey concern for my issues and be proactive when I called the office. I asked the office staff if I could possibly be fit in for an appointment that week because the nurses hadn't called me back and it was a serious issue. They told me only the nurses can help with that. Keep in mind I could not get them on the phone. I called back again the next day and the nurse said they had the information for me because of my voice messages. However, when I gave them information for my issue and reason for calling they didn't seem to have an idea who I was. Fortunately, when I did get them on the phone they were able to get me in the office that day. Which was great! I appreciated that. When I was at the appointment there seemed to be over ten people or maybe just a few less working in the back. However, I'm wondering if all these people are there why I couldn't even get a callback saying they would get back to me or anything. Maybe they did not work the day before. In addition, I am not sure what there positions are. The PA I saw was knowledgeable and the service was good as usual at my appointment. I was hesitant to see someone else because I normally only have appointments with Dr. Babcock who is a wonderful doctor. I have been going to her office for over 10 years years plus. The people at the front desk and addition staff (i.e, nurses) seemed to be more white gloved before which I extremely appreciated. However, it seemed to be People that I was familiar with. Currently, it seems to be quite a few new people in the office in general. I am not sure if they have so many patients now it is affecting their ability to deal with patients timely and in a more concerned manner. The office may have more turnover. I'm not sure about their hiring practices. I am just speculating why the service I received was different. To be clear the medical treatment here is good and the physicians I have seen have been good which is probably the most important thing. My primary care doctor recommended this doctor office. Allison Williams is an amazing physician assistant! I typically prefer being under the care of a physician, but it was more convenient for me to see Ms. Williams and I'm glad I did. I was having acne issues and she got me right. I wanted a care routine that was simple and not over complicated. She prescribed three prescriptions. They use a third party pharmacy because acne treatment is often considered cosmetic. One prescription was pricey and upon my request they took the extra step to contact a second pharmacy and got a cheaper price (and applied a coupon). The nurse also provided me with samples in the event I had to wait for prior approval from my medical insurance. Overall, Ms. Williams had a pleasant demeanor and I had a great vibe upon meeting her. I'll admit I was hesitant due to reviews I read for this doctor office, but I had a great experience. I've have been seeing Alison for a couple years for disport injections in my forehead. It is $280 a visit. Last time I was there I asked her 2 questions. She answered them looked at a wart she had treated twice that was not gone. She gave me a phone number for a compound pharmacy and the other stuff she looked at and said nothing can be done. I left and paid $280. A few weeks later I got a bill for a office visit. When I called they said because I asked questions I was charged $100.03 for a office visit. I had no idea that questions were an extra hundred dollars when I was already in the office paying almost $300. This is very upsetting and I will never be going back. Once in a great while I run across an occasion(s) that I feel should be recognized. Having had a rare skin disorder for multiple years with no cure nor even solid treatment I found Dr. Babcock. Her staff are just what you need: smart, informed, dedicated and the added touch is they are nice and actually have personalities (often rare these days). Dr. Babcock herself is extremely pleasant and confident. She listens well, has a "two way conversation" (a much appreciated bonus for any doctor) with you and thoroughly explains what treatment or procedure she recommends. Dr. Babcock is EXCELLENT and so is the young man that assisted her for my and my husband's appointment. PA Meredith Brazell and her assistant are racist beyond belief and the completely opposite experience. It's a good thing I had been seen by the owner before this last visit else I'd never return to this office ever again because of her. She's needs to be fired and the woman assisting her during Ruža's appointment too because they are going to get this place sued. I encountered such racism taking my mother in law to the dermatologist Tuesday 01/28/2020. We saw the namesake owner when my husband and I went to our appointment previously, but saw a physician assistant for the mother in law's appointment (and I'm the one that made the appointment because of how great Dr. Babcock was) and first PA Brazell's intake assistant asked me my relation to the patient, then instead of just waiting on me to answer, she assumed I was the nurse... I was really wondering why she jumped past wife or daughter, the normal logical assumptions, to nurse, or why better yet she didn't just shut up after asking the question and let me speak for myself and answer it. I'm dressed in unprofessional clothes NOTHING like a nurse uniform and if I was white she would have assumed I was the wife or the daughter, but because I'm the only black person in the party, my husband and mither in law being white, she assumed I'm the hired help. Then the PA the appointment is with comes in and after ignoring me when I answer her initial questions until my mother in law finally tells her she doesn't speak English so she was forced to turn and address me as she should have been from the moment she heard me answer the first question, she spends the entire appointment trying to get our unpronounceable last name right even though I told her she can just use my mother in law's first name... Then calls me MONICA instead of Michelle as she's about to leave. I glared at her and corrected her immediately. I'm black I must be the hired help, I'm black so you can't bring yourself to turn around and show some respect when I'm speaking to you and address your questions to me until the patient forces you to even though I was the only one volunteering answers and obviously the best English speaker in the room, and I'm black so even though I am the person listed on ALL her paperwork and the name listed as her emergency contact information and I have the easiest most common first name to pronounce of the 3 of us, AND she had just been speaking to me (obviously against her will) most of the appointment, she can kill herself to get Bajraktarević right but Michelle was just irrelevant to bother remembering (and instead of just asking what's your name again she purposely says the wrong name entirely as if to make the point of how much she's been trying to ignore my existence as much as possible the entire appointment)? Compared to the thoroughly professional appointments me and my husband had with the owner there before with ZERO of these issues, the racism in the way I alone in that room was repeatedly mistreated was obvious. Especially since as the only other female present for the patient besides the patient, and already printing my SAME LAST NAME AS THE PATIENT all over her paperwork, and dressed in such casual shirt jeans and sandals, it was pretty well obvious from the start I wasn't her bloody NURSE and related to her, and if you can get my last name right you know my first name quite easily but choose to pretend it was so difficult for you... but no, your racial biases are so hard to control in a place of business that you must choose to find a way to disrespect my presence further. read more

Rude response from Dr.Babcock- Expect this kind of behavior in the office. Three visits is enough to know. She looked at my leg when she came in the office to look at the broken machine. I wasn't sold on "manual massage", I was sold on something that I didn't get. And that "guarantee" isn't a happiness guarantee, it's if you are within a couple pounds difference guarantee. I had the most amazing experience getting my very first facial ever at Babcock! I opted for the Hydro Facial and while I was in the waiting area I saw a woman who had just gotten her Hydro Facial and her skin was straight up glowing, so hydrated. I was pumped for mine! My technician, Kelly, was so great and very attentive to my skin's needs since my face is very sensitive. After the four step process of the facial and the red light treatment to help with toning redness my face has never looked better! I felt the regimen she put me on for my acne was good, I've never seen my skin look so beautiful. The care I received for my alopecia was also good. I'm not getting any younger and my hereditary predisposition to moles and spots is really starting to show. Since more of these things are popping up, I figured it was time to get them checked, since I haven't always been as serious about sunscreen as I am now. I found BD through my insurance, and was pleased at how they scheduled my appointment for a full body scan when it was convenient for my physical with another practice in the building. I filled out the paperwork in advance, so it was just a short wait when I arrived at the office. A nurse asked for my health history before the PA did the full body visual scan. When they noticed something that look different, they asked if I'd like it removed immediately, or later. I had it taken care of them. They called with results within a week, and then due to the size, I had a follow up about 2 weeks later to remove the stitches. That visit was easily quick and painless. I received a bill in the mail about a month after everything was done, and I was able to call and pay over the phone. My receipt was then emailed to me. All in all a quiet basement office with friendly folks and efficient operation in my experience. read more

This doctor was dreadful. She talked to me for 5 minutes. I asked her what I could do about the spots on my knees - she laughed in my face and said "stop cleaning while on your knees." The assistant was much more helpful to me - she said to just use vaseline, and then she took my tags off for $100. When I asked the doctor about my hair loss - she handed me a questionnaire and said "I don't have time for this. I have other patients.Make another appointment." I was impressed that she partners with the Univ of Michigan so my skin photos can be stored and compared (yes, I am very moley moley and moley some more). They saved my eye! I called in with a question related to the pink eye diagnosis my primary care Dr. had given me, and after asking just a few questions, Dr. Babcock thought something didn't sound right and I might have shingles in my eye - I didn't even know that was a thing! She had me come in same day, and the excellent staff saw to me right away - and sure enough I had been misdiagnosed by my primary physician and Dr. Babcock and her PA got it right! It's VERY serious to have shingles around your eye and needs to be attended to immediately or you can literally lose vision in that eye. . .I couldn't be more thankful for their expertise, attentiveness, and getting me through a stressful and scary episode with the utmost in professionalism. Dr. Babcock was amazing with my 8 year old daughter. My daughter had a mole that was growing and I was concerned. She took her time and measured it and asked us a lot of questions. She presented is with all of the options available to us. My daughter wanted it removed. She took extra care in making sure that she could not feel anything and used the real stitches not the removable ones. I did not understand why until my daughter was playing basketball this weekend and got hit with the ball. Clearly, doctor knows best. She was amazing! I'm a huge fan of Dr. Babcock! I had never been to a dermatologist before, never had the treatment I had done before. She was so warm and knowledgeable about the service I was requesting. I went in for the appointment, had a short consultation, and was given the treatment that day. She even saved me money! I had gone in requesting one service but during the consult, Dr. Babcock recommended an alternative solution that would be cheaper and often times seen as more effective. Came here on a whim and had a great experience. The receptionist was warm and welcoming and the location was very easy to find (with ample, free parking). I saw Kate, a PA part of Dr. Babcock's team and she was very warm, friendly and knowledgeable. She explained everything plainly and made sure I understood before moving on. She also gave me samples of their face wash and other products for my condition to test out before getting any prescriptions. Biggest perk of this office--they are open on Saturdays! That Friday that the doctor was not in-house turns out to be a rarity. In all the subsequent visits I have been treated well with minimal wait and attentive nursing. The procedure went out all right and the only concern I had further was that a new nurse didn't pull all the stitches out, which was quickly fixed in a subsequent visit. Don't go there if you look like me! I just left after having an appointment for 3 weeks. Where I was told the doctor participates in my plan. The day of the appointment I received an email with a lot of information which included make sure your insurance will cover your bill. I thought nothing of it and continue to my visit. When I arrived I heard the front desk staff mumble about my insurance and that she had not seen it before. I clarified what type of insurance it was. I immediately felt like they wanted to provide service and then say my insurance didn't cover it. I asked if they participated in my plan and they refused to say yes. I asked for a manger ( Gayle) and she was not helpful and also refused to say they accepted my plan. I asked about their process as far as checking for eligibility and they refused to tell me what that process was. I left and will be reporting them to the insurance company. I hope the responses I received and lack of assistance would be the same for someone who does not look like me. read more

I have previously left a review. However, I'm not sure why yelp is not considering and publishing reviews that are not in a possitive nature for this practice. I have let several good reviews on Yelp for other doctors and businesses. I unfortunately had a really bad experience with this office. I had a mole removed from my foot. Dr. Babcock's assistant stuck me several times to numb my foot, unfortunately for me did not follow normal protocol and did Not wipe my foot down with any solution to clean the area to kill or possible germs on the foot. therefore, I had a staff infection to deal with. When I spoke with Dr. Babcock, she said, well people do make mistakes and its pretty normal to have staff infection present on the skin. Needless to say, I will not be returning to this practice. Dr. Babcock stated I could have the mole removed that day, she had about 20 minutes prior to leaving and picking up her child or she could schedule another appointment. I chose to go ahead and get the proceedure taken care of that day. The mole was not malignant that she removed and it was more of a precautionaly proceedure that was performed. If you choose this practice, be aware that you need need to make sure they follow proper protocol. read more

I had initially positive experiences here, but it went downhill. I had a skin condition that no one at Babcock could identify, and no one could give me any suggestions or referrals that might have lead to a solution. It eventually went away, but it would've been nice to know what the problem was. I also needed an urgent prescription refill (of a relatively routine medication) just before leaving on vacation, and it was refused because I hadn't been seen by Babcock in a while. Since a visit to renew this prescription involves a highly cursory exam and a few questions (along with a big bill, of course), I think this is a financial policy more than anything else. My PCP happily took over the prescription and filled it immediately (with no visit required). This was the last straw for Babcock, and I won't be back, not that anyone there will give a damn. read more

When I tried to raise a question about why I was charged $178 for 1 unnecessary shot to relieve inflammation in a small bump on my arm (and for which I was not told about the cost), the office manager refused to consider it. My sense is that what they really care about is maximizing the money they make and selling as many procedures as possible, whether or not they are needed. This was my first visit to a dermatologist and I was very disappointed with my experience. They do not have a generous spirit in how they do business. read more
