This use to be a great clinic but not anymore. My daughter and I have been with them for years, but they have become rude and very dis-organized. They seem not to care about their patients at all anymore. They don't return calls and the front desk and medical assistance blamed it on being short staffed. The medical assistance made me feel like it's my fault they are not doing their job. The office staff need to be retrained on customer service. Heidi Holmes was wonderful to me while I was there, but the disorganization, no call backs, no prescription being given to my daughter correctly and after months her face a complete breakout mess I am switching clinics. Sorry Heidi but my daughters face is a mess, and I have been calling you for days with no call back on what's happening with her treatment plan and then to be treated like crap by your staff is unacceptable to me. Thanks for the many year's you guys were a great Dermatology to go too. I am sorry I am leaving your clinic, and I hope one day you can get your clinic back to where it once was. I was disappointed.. the provider was rather dismissive and really didn't take an adequate history. She jumped to conclusions. I was a nurse practitioner before retirement and I am pretty disappointed. I also received no info on how to manage my condition going forward. I was super disappointed with Deschutes Dermatology when I called to get an appointment for my youngest daughter. After giving my daughters info to the receptionist she asked me what insurance I had. I told her my daughter had OHP and we would be paying out of pocket. The receptionist then informed me her office was not accepting OHP clients and they would not see my daughter. Again, I stated I would be paying out of pocket. I have already had my older 2 daughters in with Deschutes Dermatology. I paid out of pocket for both Older girls As they were also on OHP. The receptionist was adament she would not take my daughter as a client. I have been in Bend for over 30 yrs. This is not a family oriented business. If it were, they would not split up a family full of girls who have the same genetics! This was a true disappointment. I would not recommend Deschutes Dermatology! read more

This office has way too many patients if it takes weeks to get a 10 minute appt, especially when I've gotten skin cancer screenings for close to 20 years, and this is the 1st time something has come up, and I actually need an appointment. read more

I had been diagnosed with dermatitis on my right ankle back in February by a Dermatologist in Arizona and was given an antibiotic cream and a steroid cream to combat the problem. After several months my deratiitis was spreading . Neither cream was working. Luckily I found Deschutes Dermatology and Dr. Baxter. She changed my medication and after 5 weeks my dermatitis was gone. The doctor said to continue to take the medication because dermatits can still come and go in the effective area. I have had toenail fungus for over 15 years. I discussed with the doctor the pros and cons of taking internal medication to aleaviate this pesky problem. Have to grow my nails out for 3 weeks. Then will send the toenail clippings to the lab to see what course of action to take. I have found a dermatologist I can trust. Will follow up with my story in the near future. read more

Ugh, haven't even had an appointment here, had to reschedule and called left a message as soon as I found out I had a conflicting appointment, because it was within 24 hours of my scheduled appointment, charged me 50 bucks. I have not even signed a single piece of paper or agreed to anything regarding this clinic. Then they asked if I wanted to reschedule.... As this would have been a first visit to any dermatologist and I already had to shell out $50 bucks to a place already making bank, with no prior experience or notification of fees, and not so great customer service, hard pass. read more

She has been great in helping with skin issues. We have really liked this place until today. In all the time we have been going here, have never been late ONCE. I was a little behind this morning by about 5 to 10 minutes, got delayed with detours/traffic. I had called them and let them know i am on my way and would be 5 to 7 minutes late, the lady who took my call ( i think her name was Gwen?) said ok, i will let them know you are on the way. We show up EXACTLY at 825 (our apt was 8:15) was not greeted with a smile or a hello, just we have to cancel your appointment today. I was instantly shocked and i said but i called and you guys said ok and i was on my way..I explained multiple times I CALLED AND LET YOU KNOW, AND YOU SAID OK. She says, well we already have clients cycling in. So 10 minutes into what would have been my appt, they already replace me even though i called. Both women behind the counter were extremely condescending. They did let me know that Carrie (the provider) would be willing to work with us and *maybe* fit us in today if we just wanted to wait a while. ( Meanwhile, i have to get to work, she has to get to school , and neither of them could say how long wed be sitting there to get "fit in" . Yes i did read their policy if you are greater than 10 minutes late, they reserve the right to cancel. HOWEVER, why didnt they just tell me on the phone dont even bother coming,were just going to give your appointment away by the time you show up? I was exactly at the 10 minute mark. So frustrating when you rearrange your normal schedule to make it to appointments and then they cant even have any understanding or grace when things happen. There has been multiple times we have been very early and sat and waited past our appointment time by 5 or 10 minutes, i explained to them this has never happened before and I EVEN CALLED TO LET THEM KNOW, AND THEY NEVER ONCE SAID I WOULD BE CANCELLED WHEN I SHOWED UP. WHAT A WASTE OF TIME. VERY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. EVERYONE CONSIDERING THIS PLACE, DONT!!! THEY WILL SHOW YOU NO GRACE, EVEN AS A GOOD CLIENT WHO HAS NEVER BEEN LATE. Carrie Baxter, PAC., did a wonderful job, she is smart, and knowledgeable, and does very good work under the needle and knife, great bedside manners. The front office, you know who you are, i won't blast you by personally listing your names, you need to up the level of your ball game, when people phone in and leaves messages, more than one time, but several times, on different days, own up, you did get the calls, and did get the messages that i left. The calls were not returned. To the IT department, make sure those messages that are sent into the office, get sent to the correct individuals, i sent a message, two times, i was told on the first attempt, it was not received. Maybe someone should check their inboxes, or spam boxes, My apologies for the rant, but it's true, the doctors are great, the front office, needs to clean up their act, send me an invoice, so i can pay the firm off in full, sorry Carrie, going elsewhere, your staff hung up on me, not nice. January 4, 2023 We want to say we've found a great compassionate office to visit. Also add that I worked as a back office nurse in a Dermatology Office and we never turned away a patient 6 minutes late. Like many offices we had to make patients wait for 15 - 20 and more minutes. It would be unethical, the height of hypocrisy to expect patients to do more than what we dished out ourselves. Debriding a wound from a fall and putting a bandage on it takes empathy and compassion! Not a lot of time! Not seeing your elderly patient who has Parkinson's who fell, was cruel and unthinkable. None of the offices I worked for would have turned him away. Reading all the comments from previous patients, my experience isn't the first such experience. We know this doesn't happen everywhere. Wishing nothing but the best for everyone at this office. Once you're in the back it runs quickly and smoothly. The front desk policies need to change. At least "ACT" like you care, don't check a patient in then immediately turn away visiting with a co-worker. It's cold. Rent a Nanny Cam see for yourselves. Best of luck read more

Front desk staff seems to be a revolving door, says something about the owner to me. I've worked in the medical field for over 30 years, do not go here. I don't even know what to say or where to start, from the over billing of the office copay, not refunding when insurance paid as well as me, " full" body skin cancer check, ect. Made an appointment to have my ear lobes repaired from stretching them years ago. I met with Dr. Carter and she was amazing! She looked at them and we discussed my options and price. I have had other consults in the past in Vegas (I moved to bend the beginning of the year) and the pricing and Doctors were ridiculous. She got me in pretty quickly and the whole procedure took a little over an hour. One of my ears was being a pain in the butt, but she took the extra time and care to make sure I wouldn't end up with "camel toe" ears! I didn't feel any pain and the healing process was a breeze. I am currently 3months post procedure and they look fabulous! I can not wait until they are fully healed (6months). read more

After an appointment with Dr. Carrie Baxter re: staph infection/eczema, the medical assistant called me to explain the results. I didn't feel she explained things completely, so asked her a few more times to explain. She sounded irritated, and explained things by first saying "AGAIN, like I just said...". Eventually I gave up, then called the office back an hour later. I spoke to the receptionist and explained to her that the Medical Assistant didn't know if I was a carrier of staph or had an infection so I needed to speak with the doctor. The receptionist said that the doctors do not speak to the patients over the phone. I had to further explain the circumstance and pushed to have the doctor call. Eventually the receptionist said "she could see what she could do". Three days later, Dr. Carrier Baxter called me twice and left a voicemail. When I called the office back, the receptionist fetched Dr. Baxter, and the doctor politely answered all of my questions. Advice to office: Get your receptionists and medical assistants to lose the attitude. Also, get on the same page about what the policies are regarding doctor-patient communication. In this day and age, we should be able to communicate to a doctors, especially after if we still have important questions after a very expensive appointment. COSMETIC SERVICES ================== Good results, but prices are about 35% higher than other places in Portland and Bend for the same services from my research. Co2 Fractional Laser Therapy** Quality of the CO2 Fractional Laser is very good. I had moderate cystic acne scars on the right and left sides of my face and about 70% of them were smoothed out with one treatment. However, the price for CO2 Fractional Laser is now - in Feb. 2018- around $4200. Back in 2011, when I had this procedure done with the same technology, the price tag was around $1800. After performing some research, I found that the average price in 2018 for this procedure is around $2500-$2800. read more

I was going here for laser treatments and facials... Probably been about six or seven times. The treatments there were fine, however my experiences with the receptionists have been so difficult I won't return here anymore. When I've asked "Can you have her call me?" I get the response "I don't do that" and I get blind transferred to voicemail. Twice this is happened WHILE I WAS STILL TALKING. Seriously?! That's like customer service 101 fail. To the receptionist: get off your high horse and help clients. That's your job... If you don't like, I'm sure there's a grocery store that need stockers somewhere. read more

I just moved to Bend from LA and was THRILLED to find Deschutes Dermatology. Heidi Holmes has incredible bedside manner and is a wealth of knowledge. She went above and beyond to address my issues. Patty, at Deschutes Dermatology Center is worthy of a drive from Portland to Bend. I come to Patty from Portland for Juvaderm, Botox and now laser. Patty is an amazing artist who can look at you and see exactly what needs to be done to create a NATURAL, result. No one knows exactly what I've done, they just tell me how youthful and great I look. The work Patty does for me takes years off my face, leaving me looking and feeling revitalized, healthy and most importantly "natural". I've been having fillers and botox done for 10 years and I can't recommend anyone other than Patty to give you the quality work you are looking for. Have went there, as well as the other three members of my family, for over 7 years. However the last couple times I called, in the past week they had no appointments available more than two weeks out, for an excruciating case of eczema on my neck and face. Just called for daughter, also extreme dryness on face, three weeks out, no such thing as an emergency. Called Bend dermatology and both times got me in within hours, my daughter has an appointment for tomorrow. Did not care for this practice years ago, but it does seem better and more concerned with patients. Perhaps the cosmetic treatments are more lucrative an therefore the doctors are taken up with these, but I go when I need a medical doctor to address a medical problem which needs something NOW. read more

I have been seeing Dr. Carrie Baxter at Deschutes Dermatology for a few months now and I am very satisfied with her as my dermatologist. Every visit she is warm, caring, and professional, and I am so grateful that she takes my skin concerns seriously! She has prescribed me a great medication to help and is so polite and patient with any questions or concerns I have about the new meds. First time Sculptra: I saw Patty for Sculptra after she suggested I might like the results compared to some of my regular injection fillers. She explained it may take a few weeks to see results but that they would last up to a year and a half and I would see some improvement in the quality of my skin also. I was an aesthetician for many years and have been getting injections of pretty much every kind in my face for over 10 years. Patty's injections are near painless, I had zero bruising and I was pretty shocked the next morning when I could already see how much fuller my face was in a very natural way-- I love this product already! And I am writing this review also to say that I wouldn't go anywhere else in Bend for any dermatology needs. Have been going to Deschutes Dermotology over the past many years. Thank goodness I have only had minor items to attend to and they were handled by the PA usually. Today I called for an appointment and was told because I had not been there for three years I was considered a new patient and they were not taking any new patients on Medicare. I guess it is good for them that they are do so well they are refusing to take older patients. For sure I will never return and never recommend them to others. read more

Nope, not a place I will return. Here is a brief list of the issues I encountered: - They make you make multiple appointments if you wish to discuss more than one topic with the doctor or PA. This means a copay each time you show up, and allows them to charge your insurance the maximum amount possible for each visit. I spoke with my insurance about this seemingly fraudulent practice, and all they said was, "Yea, we're aware of this increasingly popular practice and at this time there is nothing we can do about it." - Good luck getting in to be seen if you have a reaction to the prescriptions they supply you, further, be prepared to be charged yet another "office visit" copay, even though it is legally considered a "follow up" which would not require a copay. - An irksome finding when I arrived for my "follow up" appointment on an off-day was that the office was completely different than when I had shown up for the first appointment. Not only were the magazines on the tables geared for men, but the waiting room and staff were all men! It was like they have days for different sexes! It was so bizarre. - The PA who saw me for my severe reaction gave me some topical steroidal cream and sent me home. However, unbeknownst to me, the office ended up filing a new life-long and severe diagnosis (eczema) when charging my insurance (again, a greater insurance charge amount). I'm a grown woman who has no history of eczema and since ceasing their prescription regimen have not had the same issue again. This action by their office triggered a new medical historial record red flag, and the insurance company contacted me to find out what was going on. So this doctor's office has now permanently altered my true medical history by giving me a "preexisting condition". Unlike our credit reports, we cannot dispute these filings by doctor's offices. Not only will I never go back, I am sure to honestly warn friends and family to avoid this office that is seemingly juicing our insurances for every penny they can, down to inaccurate diagnosis. Horrible life-changing experience. I went to Dr. Leslie A. Carter with a miniscule problem of what amounted to a slightly-enlarged pore on my right cheek and a very small cyst on my forehead. She diagnosed my cheek as a ruptured hair follicle and said she could fix it along with removing the very small cyst. I made separate appointments for both procedures. She made an incision in my cheek and started digging around. She closed the site, stitched it up and applied a bandage. One week later, I removed the bandage and was horrified. It was about 5/8 of an inch long and all pouched up and pulled together and looked TERRIBLE! I was speechless. Just as bad, she had missed the actual site of the enlarged pore cutting just below it. I went back to her on the day schedule for the cyst removal and she told me (regarding my cheek) "sometimes when we introduce the anesthetic it causes swelling and we lose track of the targeted area". Really? Hey I'm just a Union Carpenter, but I could figure out a remedy for that mistake after the first time it happened. How about mapping out of the area with a pen, taking a photograph and putting it up on a screen with geographical landmarks for reference? She said she would fix it for free. Really? Like a fool I let her try to cut out the cyst. Same result: swing and a miss. Missed the cyst! She later gave me the same explanation. I unfortunately let her try and "fix" my face in both locations. My cheek now has an ever bigger hideous scar that is pouched or "dog eared" at each end. When I converse with people, EVERYONE's eyes continually move from my eyes to the scar on my cheek, back to my eyes and then back to my cheek. It's disheartening and embarrassing to say the least. Again she tried to remove the very small cyst on my forehead. It's been over a year and internal stiches that look like fishing line are still protruding from my forehead, eventually I am able to pull them out. Over a year! I complained about the hideous scar on my face and Dr. Carter agreed saying: "I wouldn't be happy with that either". Really? She then injected the site with a solution she said would help it to look better. Thank God it was a temporary solution at first, because it looked like someone had implanted a quarter under my skin on my cheek. When I smiled it move without the normal creases in my face (like Botox). It looked RIDICULOUS! I had her inject the antidote and it mostly went away leaving me with the original ugly scar that everyone stares at. I asked Dr. Carter "how is it that Kaiser has never left a terrible scar when they had done similar procedures? Why is it that when I have lacerated my face at work and applied butterfly stitches myself, that the scars are undetectable while hers look like they do? She had a number of excuses, all blaming me. "Your skin is too old.". I was 52 (51 when Kaiser did theirs). "The sites are not on a completely flat surface." All contradictory to recent procedures and injuries. What a letdown to my life. After all, a person's face is how they greet the world. I went to Dr. Leslie A. Carter for help and ended up worse off, after paying cash, and I was blamed for the outcome. Just sad. Don't go to her if you value your appearance. read more

I have been treated so poorly by the office staff at Deschutes Dermatology. They are so incredibly rude. The different times that I have called them I, I have been felt small, unimportant and a second class citizen. Bussy is one of the most rude individuals in that office that I've ever encountered. She has no understanding about customer service. I would not recommend this facility to anyone. It doesn't matter how good the doctors are, if they have an office staff that doesn't care about their patients - it's not worth it. read more
