We are in the process of redesigning our back yard. The previous owners of our house neglected to tell us that they painted all the tile in our pool (very uncool). I knew I didn't want to take the time to repaint all the tile every year so we decided to have the tile sandblasted. I called 5 companies. Barry arrived and I'm so glad I called him. Had an issue with my pool heater, had several people provide quotes, and one other business even came and briefly diagnosed (albeit incorrectly). Designer showed up rapidly -- same day -- and went through a very thorough diagnostic process, and ultimately found & fixed the issue during their initial visit. They're certified & trained by Pentair and have the appropriate "master tech" certification & the Pentair repair/diagnostic kit -- which means they'd have been able to fix just about any issue my heater could've had, all during the initial same-day visit. My heater was back up & running by the time they left! Highly recommended & will absolutely use them again in the future. read more

First and foremost, Barry is a trustworthy guy and I have nothing personal against him or his company, I just did not have a great experience as a customer and was disappointed with our results. The overall process of our pool plaster job was less than ideal, very disorganized, and characterized by poor communication. - Communication was not proactive and we rarely knew what was happening next. I had to chase for information and understanding every step of the way. As someone who has never had a pool plastered, I was expecting someone to jump in and guide me through otherwise I could have just paid a plaster company myself and saved some money. - The work was sub-contracted to another company, which was unexpected (until I signed the contract). - We were informed very last minute that work would begin and had to frantically rearrange plans in order to be there. - The pool was chipped out and then left for almost two weeks. It accumulated water due to rain and started to smell pretty bad. Not necessarily all on Barry as he can't control the rain, but still very frustrating to have a swampy backyard. - There was no guidance on after care until I reached out and asked. When the plaster workers finished they just left without a word. - The plaster work was questionable and we ended up having to have the "supervisor" come back and do touchup work. We also paid for bead blasting, which was no where near as effective as expected -- there was still quite a bit of residue left over and the process resulted in some of the tile grout being blasted out (but not replaced). There was a consistent theme throughout our project of me having to say "I misunderstood" when, in reality, we should have received better communication from the start. We are already starting to see what might be potential issues with the plaster down the road so I'll do my best to update the review if we end up having to have warranty work done. Like I said, nothing personal against Barry. I know if we do need warranty work done I can reach out to him and he will get it taken care of but I feel that others need to be aware of my experience so they can learn from it and handle their project differently. I hired Barry to install a new pool pump at our home. He offered a free consultation, and the verdict was that we needed a new pump, which was the result of a shady technician hired by my home warranty company one year prior, who installed an old motor on our equipment. Barry got the pump and was back the very next day with his wife. He installed the pump while his wife cleaned up our pool, which had gotten pretty dirty after sitting for a couple weeks without a functioning pump. He gave us a discount for my Dad being in the military, which was very nice of him. And he even came back a few days later to replace a cap that had broken off while he was working. Overall Barry and his wife were both personable yet professional. I would absolutely use them again and would definitely recommend them to others. read more

Barry was a pleasure to work with. Came out and gave a quote the next day, and was able to get on his schedule for equipment repair very quickly. The original quote had a replacement pool filter on it, but after determining it was just the drain cap, I wasn't given a hard sell on it, and we did only the pump repair. The only downside was that the gasket/seal kit he initially used was defective, so he had to come out the next day to replace it again (no extra charge to me). We've been looking for a good pool equipment maintenance/repair/upgrade company, and are looking forward to using Designer Pool Services in the near (and foreseeable) future! read more

I use my spa every day to relieve my lower back pain and yesterday (a Saturday), I noticed my pump stopped working. I called Designer Pool Services at about 9:00 and I had a new pump installed and running only a few hours later. The tech was very courteous, polite and professional. He was very knowledgeable and even gave me some tips on how to keep my pool looking as good as new. I was so impressed I asked if they do pool maintenance and he said they do. I have lived in LV for over 9 years and I have never had a reliable pool service company. I ended up hiring them and all I can say is WOW! I have never seen my pool so clean the entire time I have been here. They have been servicing my pool for the past 5 months and I recommend them to all of my family and friends with pools. My pool pump went out on the hottest day of the year so far. Barry was quick to respond to my call on Yelp, he also came out the same day to take a look and give me a quote. I had about 5 other companies provide quotes as well. Barry was great, he not only was very reasonable on the price but he provided the best pump, which included installation. Never received my estimate. Sent a message on Yelp for a quote. Gave my phone number to text to set up date and time for estimate. Date and time came and went and the guy never showed up. I sent a text and then he informed me he was still at a job site that was running late and could he come by the next day. Next day he comes by and takes the measurements and talks to my husband. Says he will send an estimate. We wait from Feb 28-Mar 7 then I text asking about the estimate and get no response. I even try sending a message through Yelp asking about an estimate and nothing. So if I can't even get an estimate I sure as heck won't trust this company with my pool! read more

Received a text from the city that I had a leak somewhere. Water bill arrived and I was dinged an additional $200 over normal. Called Barry at DPS and he was here early the next morning. He took care of the problem for a small fraction of what I paid the water department. I will definitely recommend DPS to friends and family. read more

Updates: Emails and text messages were sent about the quality was ignored and the refund was given only after I posted my review. We had Barry came out to verified that our pool heater and pop ups was working as normal. As requested, Barry sent over the invoice stating that everything was in working order except for the low pressure in the pop ups. All that was needed was to install new pump union to resolves a leak. A week later, our home buyers came with their own pool inspectors and informed us both the heater and pop ups was in fact NOT working. We were very disappointed and tried to contact Barry. At this point, he became unresponsive. He did not respond to our text messages or call. We had no choice but to hired someone else the very last minute to make sure everything was fine. If you're in need of a dependable, quality pool man, please stay away. I would definitely NOT recommend Designer Pool Services. Not only did we have to pay for bad service, we had to waste more time and energy trying to fix the problems ourselves. We definitely had been scammed. read more

Hired the owner (Barry) to replace my variable speed pool pump, pool filter and pool light. WHAT A NIGHTMARE! Started off friendly enough. Once I gave him a $1,000.00 deposit everything changed. He pushed the install date on back me. He tried to install the new equipment ON THE DIRT where the old equipment was. When I caught him doing that I asked him "Isn't the new equipment supposed to be installed on an equipment pad?" He replied "I just assumed you wanted it where the old equipment was." I said "No, the manufacturer (Pentair) recommends the equipment be installed on an equipment pad." He reluctantly agreed and said "I will get you a pad." When I came home from work the next day I went in the backyard to see how the job was going and he was working frantically with stuff all over the place. I noticed that the equipment pad he was using did not fit in the area and it was not level but he was installing the equipment on it anyway. I asked him about the pad and he said "it was the only one I could find" and when I asked him about it being level he said "I am not going to level it." He said "you can have your landscaper level it." I saw that he was struggling with the installation so I called my landscaper and had him level the dirt under the pad and put it back. Barry did not stay in touch with me during the installation process and would sneak in and out of my backyard without letting me know he was there. I didn't hear from Barry the whole next day and then got a text message from him saying "he was done". Surprised, I went into my backyard and saw one of the worst installations I had ever seen. The pool pump was hanging off of the equipment pad by 6 to 8 inches and one of the pipes was leaking. When I contacted him about this he said my landscaper installed the equipment pad at the wrong height so he had to put in extra fittings to make it work. He gave no instructions on the height the pad had to be so this is a bogus excuse. I have tried to get him back out to redo the installation so the pump is on the pad and to repair the leaking pipe but he refuses to show up until he is paid in full. Typical contractor mentality... Do shoddy work and blame it on someone else. I was going to file a complaint with the Nevada State Contractors Board but according to their website he is NOT a contractor.
