Established in 2013.
Designers Up North Ltd was the natural progression for founder Jim Adams, a designer with over 15 years' experience earned in Manchester design agencies before going out on his own.
Seven successful years as a freelancer taught him the thing younger designers often lack: not just how to design, but exactly what to do, when to do it, and what it should genuinely cost. Rather than keep turning work away, he built a company around that experience — one designed to deliver considered, premium creative for small and medium-sized businesses, locally in Manchester and across the UK.
Today Designers Up North is Jim and Matt — two designers working from Stretford, with no account managers and no outsourcing. More than a decade on, we still believe the people who speak to you should be the same people building your website and designing your print. That's the whole point of us.
Meet the Business Owner: Jim A.
Jim Adams is the founder of Designers Up North and the lead creative behind everything the studio produces. With over 20 years in design — first in Manchester agencies, then as a freelancer, and now running the studio — he's built the kind of instinct for what works (and what a project should genuinely cost) that only comes with time.
He set up Designers Up North to do design properly for small and medium-sized businesses: considered, premium work, with none of the account-manager layers or outsourcing you get elsewhere. Today he runs the studio alongside Matt from their base in Stretford — so when you get in touch, you're speaking to the person who'll actually be doing the work.
