I found myself at Destiny church as it was the venue of choice for a two-night run of my friend's play 'What The Frack?' which she both wrote and directed.
Cast aside any traditional conceptions you have of a church because: holy moly, this is no conventional place of worship. It's situated above a bingo hall and the church itself is an old cinema. You actually walk through the bingo entrance to get to the church. I was headed there on a Friday night, and so I was met with the bingo folks outside. No, you are not in the wrong place. - Head up the stairs on the far left.
The church is a cinema, it really is. Snack bar area still intact, which they used for refreshments for the play, and one large cinema hall and stage with rows of seats. I can't describe it any other way than it really is a church in an old cinema hall, and it's refreshing to see a church as modern and unique as this.
It's great that they were happy for the play to go ahead in the building. - It was just perfect for the occasion. If anyone is looking for theatre space in future, I'd certainly recommend they see if there's anything Destiny can do for them. read more
