The spaces mission is to "create and foster an accessible space in Hendricks County where residents and visitors can explore a diverse collection of large-scale contemporary visual art works, by local and regional artists." In the current iteration of the East Wall you will see a piece by Dan Cents Thompson from Indianapolis, depicting a young kid with an Afro looking through a magnifying glass lying next to some graffiti writing that I cannot decipher. Next to that there is a graffiti writing piece (that I also cannot decipher) by Zach "ZMed" Medler from Lafayette and then another piece depicting two racoons peeking over a green wall by Thompson and Nick "Abstract" Smith from Whitestown. On the West Wall you will find the work of Kevin "Scraps" Burdick from Flint, Michigan. It depicts a creative futuristic Wizard of Oz piece that you just have to see to believe. All these pieces are very detailed and the artwork is very, very nice. They got some really talented and established artist on this go-round. The artist rotates usually every year to give more artist a chance to spotlight their work which I think is awesome. I love the concept and I love the way the community has come together to bring this project together. This is nice idea and is the brainchild of Pete Brown, founder of ASH Interactive. So, If you are in Brownsburg be sure to check this spot out and remember that it does change annually, so it stays fresh.

If you wanted to make the largest cookie in the world and wanted to make it into the shape of a…read morebear, I think I found an art piece you could use! ha! Seriously, I can't help but think of this 3D sculpture as representing a large 2D image of a bear that could be used for baking. The sheer size of the sculpture and the amount of work it would take to bend metal into such a recognizable shape must be far greater than the simple image might suggest. It looks effortless, but when you think about it, must have been a major task. Former Indy resident (now in Valparaiso) Matthew Berg created this structure in 1997. It is most easily visible while westbound on 56th Street while crossing the Geist Reservoir. The metal surface has a rusted finish, but the installation looks quite solid. Berg has several other art installations in the area including near the pyramids, Plainfield, and the campus of Franklin College. Review #1601

This is a nice sculpture, especially considering its age. It was made in 1989 by Dan Ostermiller…read more It sits right outside the Eagle Creek Park entrance gate in an open field to the right. It was made in dedication to Samuel Sutphin, an avid birdwatcher and wildlife enthusiast who served two terms as a trustee of the National Trust for Historic Preservation and as director of the National Audubon Society, by his family. It depicts a large bronze eagle soaring through the sky sitting on a sandstone and mortar base. The eagle is 8 feet tall and has its left wing angled downward, touching the base, and the right wing is pointing upward toward the sky. There is a bronze plaque on the base that has the verse of Isaiah 40:31 and a dedication to Sutphin. It also lists the sculptor and date it was made. It is kind of an awkward spot to park at. I just pulled over to the side of the road, to get out and take a closer look. The field that it is in is nice and well maintained, making the walk to the sculpture relatively easy. As with most sculptures that I have visited and reviewed, this is not a very long stop. I was there less than 3 minutes. With that being said, you may want to consider making this stop part of a larger itinerary to maximize your time and trip. Luckily you have a very nice park, where the sculpture is located in front of, to fill part of that itinerary.
