went there last night for our 8:30 RESERVATION, at 9:30 I left since we still did not have our reserved table and the whipped ricotta and goat cheese appetizer took over 30 minutes to get to us and was a few scoops of something with overly salted burnt pita bread slices served cold. If it had been a warm dish I might have been able to excuse the delay. Kayla the bartender was the only real bright spot of the night, she was amazing. On top of everything, knew what she was doing, adjusted our drinks per our requests, super friendly and then said she had only been there a week. Her drinks were delicious. Hands down, one of the coolest spaces to open up in Austin. It's very reminiscent of the NYC underground scene, speakeasy meets nightclub. My favorite part was not the neon vintage decor, but the amazing service from the bar-- specifically Joel. If you go, ask if he's working! West 6th finally is more than bad sports bars. After eating at TenTen we walked across the street to this new lounge where Bess used to be. The vibe is created with upscale decor, great lighting, and great tunes. It reminded me of the Oxford Social Club in the Pendry in San Deigo Gaslamp. The menu had a Mediterranean influence, so we grabbed a glass of Lebanese red and topped it off with some baklava and Turkish coffee that was so smooth I felt like Larry David just finding the perfect beans! Came in with a few girlfriends, and we stayed for dinner and after dinner cocktails. The music in the background was full of groovy tunes, and our server cultivated our entire evening! From recommending cocktails (the hellfire is mind blowing- shoutout to the bartender) to helping me find some drool worthy vegetarian options. Devoured my devils eggs and wild mushroom salad while my carnivore bffs went in on a beautiful branzino that was even tempting to me! Had my first experience at this bar and it was... interesting. What I found most offensive is that as the DD for our friends, I came in and ordered two tequila drinks for the people in my group and a water for myself. The bartender, a short blonde with medium length hair, handed me the water and said "I dare you to chug this", which I did. She then refilled and said "this one too". I said "thanks I'm good" and took a sip to which she said "finish it or I'll cut you off". Since I was drinking WATER, I kind of laughed and assumed she was joking but it became clear that she wasn't. I tried to clarify that I wasn't drinking and she said "finish the water or I'll have you removed from the bar". Shocked, I said "are you gaslighting me or is this a joke?" to which the people standing next to me at the bar immediately chimed in to verify that I was not drinking. She went and threw what looked like a tantrum to another server or manager at the bar, who appeared to dismiss her after coming over to chat with me, and then never spoke to us again. It was the most bizarre and offensive hospitality situation I've ever been involved in. Would not recommend, based solely on the incredibly shitty and accusatory service. In the time this interaction was occurring, I witnessed a woman in a latex dress fall out of a chair at the bar and hit the floor with no intervention from bar staff. I'm still sort of convinced I was being filmed because this was the most aggressive and bizarre behavior from a bartender I've ever seen. read more

DMC is a cool Mediterranean and craft cocktail lounge with a great atmosphere. You enter down steps into a basement and it resembles a NYC lounge. It's dark and intimate with fun lighted ceilings. Weekends are super busy and they have great bottle service. Drinks are inventive and the food is delicious. John, who DJs there is incredible and reads the room while playing hits and also mixing in some old school and songs I haven't heard but definitely added to my personal music library since. Initially had some trouble reaching them in the beginning of the week but then they were great both emailing and texting me which was very convenient since I had a large group visiting. They were very accommodating. There was a 2 bottle minimum Friday night so only tried 1 cocktail from the bar that was delicious. They had great music, very cool ambiance and loungy vibes, it is pretty dark in there. It wasn't very busy so had lots of room to dance. The waitresses do make the drinks extra strong with your bottles, probably to get you to drink all your booze and order more, so I had to call their attention on that a few times because the drinks were 90% alcohol and undrinkable. She was nice about it and I think toned it down or we got drunk and stopped noticing lol Bottle service prices were a lot higher than what I would expect for Austin. Everyone was very nice and I would def recommend. It is more upscale and much less casual than the rest of Austin which is what I wanted to celebrate my birthday. read more

I want to start off by saying that our service, drinks, and food were all great. It's truly a lovely restaurant and has a great vibe and I would recommend it for anyone who wants a nice night out. That said there was some weird miscommunication that happened with the hostess up front. We had a reservation and when we came in she said to the effect of "I can seat you over here at this high top for now and once a table opens up in the lounge I'll move you in there" so it seemed like our table was a temporary transition seat until our real table opened up in a few minutes. We ordered drinks and waited an hour and still nothing. We brought it up to our server and hostess a couple times and only after some pressing and looking at the terrace and two top options (we were a party of 3) she explained that the table we were seated at was our real table, it's that she just tries to eventually move people over to the lounge of possible but not guaranteed. Which is odd, it just felt that we couldn't really get comfortable and we could be picked up at any moment. We decided to not move to the terrace or two top but asked that the wobble on our table gets fixed since it was pretty extreme, we had a couple people come to take a look at the wobble but no one actually came to fix it, and we just eventually just moved to the high top right next to us that was more stable. Definitely one of a kind here in town. A loungy vibe with low tables, we were a group of 4 and went for dinner and drinks around 830. The hostess greeted us with a big smile and even though we didn't have a reservation, she was able to find us a table right away - so definitely points given here. The couch was comfortable, and it sat three of us while our server got me an ottoman. She explained the menu was all shareable so we ordered a bunch of different things for the table. We especially enjoyed the Tuna crudo - it was spiced with Moroccan flavors and was different than anything I've ever had. We also had the hummus, halloumi, brussels sprouts, little gem, lamb ribs, & hanger steak. We asked our server to send it as it was ready, and it came out quicker than we expected. My girlfriend and her friends raved about the lamb ribs & the halloumi but personally, the steak was my favorite. Overall, everything was pretty tasty. We tried a few of the cocktails as well, and I think we really loved the hellfire the most. The place felt very cozy and by time we realized it, it was almost 11 and the place was packed. The lights had gone down and a DJ appeared out of nowhere. People were dancing all over, we saw some buying bottles, and there's a really cool lighting runway thing down the center of the room. Very cool relaxed lounge in Austin with a great atmosphere and extremely nice/courteous staff. The food is incredibly good at Devil May Care which is surprising for a lounge. Not only are their small plates delicious, but the main entrées are out of this world! The lamb shank and half chicken are unreal. This is a great spot for happy hours or drinks, but I would also absolutely go there just for dinner, the food was that good. I'm not usually a cocktail person but the Hellfire is one you have to try. Solid beer selection too. 5 stars all around. From the moment you walk in, you're completely taken out of Austin and placed into an atmospheric abyss of art, seduction, worldly culture. The hostess was kind and inviting and got us seated quickly even though she clearly had to make room (next time we'll make a reservation if coming in for dinner). We were a group of 5 ladies and came in on a Thursday around 7pm for cocktails + small bites, as we had other dinner plans. After getting a warm and in-depth explanation of the menu from our waitress, we ended up cancelling our dinner plans and staying for a full course. I'm glad we did! We all started with the Hellfire, which was described as their signature cocktail. It definitely has a kick to it but is still really well-balanced in sweetness and citrus from the blood orange. I'm a tequila gal and this satisfied me. Girlfriends also got the Rose Fizz and De Espana. Rose fizz was light a delish; De Espana came out on a beautiful display that made the 'gram. For food, our waitress recommended the Halloumi Brulee, Brussel Sprouts, and Pita/Hummus to start. 10/10 on everything from taste, to presentation. We ended up getting The Devil's Eggs too, and the table order 2 more rounds of it. Great creative version of a traditional deviled egg. All of these plates were smaller portioned and perfect for sharing with the table. We were a little unfamiliar with some of the terms on the menu, but staff was absolutely amazing and walked us through the whole thing as needed. Even had a little glossary section in the menu itself to explain some terms. This made it a whole experience, and you truly feel like you're not in Austin anymore. We moved on to entrees and got one of each of their large plates. We put the order in with our first dishes, as the waitress let us know they were all made-to-order. We never had a shortage of food on the table regardless. Lamb shank was my fav- it felt like an entire leg of lamb and the server even peeled in right off the bone for us at the table! As we were ordering our last round, a DJ came in and the place began to transform. Lights got dimmer, groups started to shuffle in to enjoy bottles of liquor and champagne, and the vibe went into more of a sophisticated, upscale lounge party. Coolest part- the food menu stayed available throughout! We walked in thinking this was just a cocktail lounge and was surprised to see this place is successfully offering every kind of experience- happy hour, cocktails, dinner, AND late night Thurs-Sun! I'll be back to try dessert (didn't have enough room at that point lol), and we've already inquired about booking a table for bottle service for a birthday next month :) read more

Most disrespectful, underhanded service ever. Would never go here again. The restaurant was mostly empty when we went. We were initially going to be sat at a table, for two. This other hostess came over, mumbled something to the other hostess, then told us that all their tables "were not reserved, but spoken for", whatever that meant. They sat us on a section of the bar, no meant for seats, but where the bartender puts out drinks. We had friends who showed up about 30min after us. For them, they had tables available, not realizing we all knew each other. A quiet Sunday night offered impeccable service from Corinne and New York quality food, coincidentally overseen by a chef from my absolute favourite NYC Italian restaurant Scarpetta. Excellent lamb ribs, haloumi, massive prawns and probably the freshest octopus I've yet had in a landlocked city. No, there is no Octopus in Galveston, TX folks. The meal was flanked by top-shelf / top-notch cocktails that made the food proud. Here's the thing: You don't need to come here just for food or just for drinks - either or both options work and that's just what makes this omnipotent, multi-faceted venue stand out. During Covid we went to brunch on Sunday with family from out of town. We sat on the terrace and the couches were comfy and we felt like VIPs with our own section. We had the seafood platter and Mezze platter to start. The presentation of everything was great. The seafood was so flavorful and fresh. The mezze platter dips and bread were fantastic with generous portions. We followed that with the lamb Kofta sliders and they were amazing!!! Even though we were stuffed we wanted something sweet and got the Nutella stuffed French toast and......OMG YUM!!! We had them roll us out in wheelbarrows but it was worth it. I'm sure there are some people in the People's Republic who agree with the limited and overpriced food and drink menu, impossibly uncomfortable eating arrangements (seriously, who eats on a one-foot-tall table?), distractingly loud and paradoxical playlist (which part of this progressive city is comfortable with that many "N" words?), and service (costuming is nothing if not exploitive). Judging by the business Devil was doing on a Sunday evening, it appears a lot of people do. I'm here for those who have yet to experience this particular brand of disappointment. We were there at a very empty time of the night and it didn't feel like a place to spend hundreds of drinks and snacks.
