They offer free shipping for certain bottle purchases and a discount when buying 6 or more. It had a great feel about it and they managed a very big table beautifully. The staff were very knowledgeable on their wines and offered guidance when requested. It has a quite relaxing feel about it with a very large carpark area. It would be great to enjoy a bottle and relax soaking up the views in the outside area. Enjoy.

While the wines we tasted were all decent including Chardonnay, Pinot noir and Riesling, to my taste they weren't all that special. The tasting room itself is nice with an intimate feel and there's also a small deck outside looking down through the vineyard. Our tasting included 6 wines but the older gentleman serving us just wasn't very friendly despite our attempts to engage-maybe he was having a trying day, who knows. We are just so used to the interactive experience when talking to people about wine. This felt much more transactional and forced. In any case given the number of other wineries around, I'd probably skip this one.

Seven Sheds is a small brewery in Railton, Tassie. It is hard to spot as they have only small…read moresignage on the main road and is located in what looks like someone's shed. It's easy to overlook this brewery because they are not advertised in the usual tourist map. However I read about their victories and praises locally and knew we had to stop by. The owner seems to like to keep this brewery on a small/ boutique scale, when we visited you can look out at a the different hops growing at the back and there was 1 guy tending them lovingly. The brews here incorporate other local produce including the raspberries from Christmas Hill farm and the Inca dark chocolate stocked at House of Anvers. Give them a go and they can ship to you if you want some refill.

On a girls' holiday up north recently, we didn't have plans to stop in at Spreyton but a twist of…read morefate brought us right past the cidery on our way from Devonport to Cradle Mountain--and I couldn't not stop the car. I've tried a couple of Spreyton's ciders in the past and liked them--the Dark (featuring hops) and the Bright (the lightest and sweetest of all five). I enjoyed being able to try the Vintage, Perry and Classic as well, and we ended up walking away with a bonus bottle of the Perry, of all five. Spreyton's tasting paddle of all five varieties plus a bonus bottle of your favourite variety, all for $10, is spot on. The tasting is presented stylishly in a wooden holder with the names of each variety printed into the holder, so very easy to remember! We were guided through the tasting by a handsome Spreyton Cider gent, which is always a welcome addition, and without us even asking he suggested we could share a paddle rather than spending the $10 each. This designated driver says thank you. Being from the south, I'm a semi-regular visitor to the Huon's Willie Smiths and Pagan cider cellar doors, so I have to draw a comparison. For cost, it was great--WS charge $12 a pop for their tasting paddle of four varieties, a little more cider in each taste but no takeaway bottle, and your tasting is DIY once you're handed the paddle. Pagan don't charge a cent and Harry takes you through the full current range of varieties including some cellar door specials, but that's part of the reason Pagan get five stars from me. But back to the cidery at hand. Spreyton have a really lovely setup out here, a wonderful covered space with plenty of picnic tables overlooking a section of the orchard, which would be particularly stunning when the trees are in bloom or covered in fruit! All being said, Spreyton--I like the cut of your jib. Keep up the good work.

Cataract Gorge was created as a place for the people of Launceston to promenade in a garden full of…read moreintroduced and native species of plants and trees so that it felt, smelled and looked (5 senses) like home for many who had come from far overseas . Be careful though- no boisterous behaviour or swings on a Sunday . The bright blue public pool set against a backdrop of green lawn looked particularly inviting given the warm morning (sort of) and we imagined on a hot sunny day it might be just the right place to be but only one brave sole decided it was irresistible and while most wisely headed for a hot coffee Eric decided he was not going to miss this opportunity for a polar plunge. Considered the longest single span chairlift in the World it was a relief and a delight to meet the wild wallabies, pademelons and peacocks on the other side after a short but scenic journey across the gorge. After another short walk we enjoyed the gorgeous vista from the lookout and suspension bridge before a nice downhill trek past the giant Sequoia tree. With the big short finned Tasmanian eels famous for their migration to the Coral sea and back known to be voracious eaters we didn't fancy the swimmers enjoying the muddy waters of the gorge main lake. Extreme sports were the added extra with two local climbers getting ready to abseil down the cliffs of the South Esk as we wandered down the gentle scenic path out of the gorge. We may have neglected to pay the cataract gorge toll like many before us but we did marvel at the construction of the old Kings bridge completely prefabricated in England and sent to bridge the river esk and connect Launceston with the opposite side of the river Tamar.

One of the must see areas in Launceston. There is a generous parking area but it does require a…read morefee. The peacocks in the main area were beautiful and clearly very comfortable around people. We walked to the power plant which was a nice walk without very many people. The power plant has a video running to talk about its history of generating electricity. We loved being the only people there to take in the suspension bridge and views all on our own. It would have been nice to walk back on the other side of the river but the trail was closed due to falling rock. There weren't any signs but we saw comments on All Trails that alerted us to the closure. We walked to the gorge to King's bridge then the zig zag trail next. The walk along the gorge is lovely. In the main area, there is a building you can enter to learn more about the history of the park. We did not do the chair lift because it was pouring rain but that looked like a fun thing to do.
