IMPECCABLE service! AMAZING food! WONDERFUL atmosphere! Pretty much sums up my love for this joint. Jordan C is the BEST bartender/server in the biz. Consistently quick, charismatic, and conscientious of his clients. Love. This. Dude. We are making it a habit to come here while our child is at Proud Theatre on Wednesdays. And it's a habit that I don't ever want to break.

We used to come here late night after work for some beers, and I always enjoyed it -- good bartenders and a large tap list. Hadn't been here in a few years, but heard their fish fry was good so we decided to try it out. And it is still great. This was my first time actually eating here, and it was a great experience. The staff remains friendly and fun and we really enjoyed our server. We came early on a Friday and got a seat, but the line was pretty significant as we started eating. We started off with an old fashioned, and I was a big fan of how they make an old fashioned (however that is)! I ordered the cod fish fry, and it was phenomenal. My other dining mates even commented on how beautiful it looked. The outside was slightly dark and crisp and the inside was moist and yummy. Probably one of my favorite fried cods I've had. Will definitely look to come again!

We have are usual fish fry places in Dane county but we had never tried Dexter's Pub. We dropped in Friday night and the place was packed which is always a good sign. It was an hour wait for a table but we got lucky and snagged two seats at the bar. My girlfriend ordered one of their craft beers and I had an old fashioned. The bar tender was friendly and very professional. We both ordered the walleye and we were not disappointed. I had a bowl of clam chowder which was delicious and loaded with clams! Our fish had a nice crispy coating and was delicious. We ordered some fried artichokes and they were fantastic. I highly recommend adding Dexters to your list of great fish fry places.

I was there for their famous Friday fish fry. I took out dinner from here. As expected beer battered fish was the best thing I had from her. It was nicely coated and fried well. Spring onion burger was really good as well. I also went for a kids grilled cheese, which was good. On Friday evening the place was packed and loud. And people were waiting to be seated.

Wow. We finally made it to Dexter's on a Friday for a fish fry and we were not disappointed!! Our server was amazing, we chatted all evening about food, wine, traveling. We were able to sit outside and it was a beautiful evening and a really nice outdoor space. The cheese curds were incredible. One of my new top spots in Madison. And the fish fry was outstanding. No complaints. I'd come here again in a heartbeat!

The fish fry was really good! I had the perch dinner and it came with five pieces, I could've split the meal with someone and still been stuffed! Our waitress was ok. She was friendly. We dodged wait foreverrrrrr for the check. I'm talking 45 minutes. Overall good food.

Went here for Fat Tuesday after wanting to try this place for years and they did not disappoint! We ordered the gumbo, the red beans and rice, and the etouffee with corn bread. All were the perfect comfort foods that we were craving. The portions were also large enough that we had lots of leftovers for the next day. The most impressive thing though was that you could actually see a full crawfish. Even out of its shell, you could tell it had claws! Also as lovers of cornbread, we were pretty impressed. It maintained a moisture, yet had the crumbliness you want. It also wasn't super sweet like some can be. Based off of this meal, we can't wait to get back to try out their regular menu! We may need to pick up a fish fry pretty soon.

Great fish fry, great beer selection. Can be a bit of a wait on Fridays, so be prepared to have a few old fashioneds.

We got the Korean BBQ and Habanero. The habanero is SPICY!! My mouth was burning after two wings. I always get the APA beer. Classically delicious! Great Dane Pub has become one of my favorite spots in Madison for a variety of reasons from the drinks, vibes, service and community support! Situated on the corner of Doty and King in downtown Madison, Great Dane is a welcome sight for any visitor or local looking for a chill spot to have a solid drink, tasty bite and/or a good time! The pub is one large space, but it is separated into a few unique areas. One side is quintessential pub with a long bar, lots of dark woods, and a good sized dining room. The other is more of a pool hall vibe where you will find the other side of the bar, several pool tables, lots of TV's, high tops, darts, etc...We have bellied up to both sides of the bar and while I like both sides, I prefer the vibe of the pub side. They have a fairly extensive food menu with several bar/pub classics such as wings, nachos and burgers. But they also offer a good variety of sandwiches, bowls, salads, soups and even tacos. While we are normally here for the drinks, we do enjoy the cheese curds, wings and poutine! Speaking of drinks, they always have a great menu of house cocktails that is constantly updated for seasonality. I have had several iterations of cocktails and since I visit a few times a year, I always get to try new seasonal cocktails and beers! Service is always stellar here, no matter what side of the bar you are on. Welcoming, friendly and helpful...every time! Overall, I am an absolute fan of The Great Dane Pub!

We had some old fashioneds before ordering food, and I thought they were good. Service was super attentive, especially as we delayed ordering to enjoy drinks and an appetizer for a bit. I ordered the beer battered cod fish fry (my staple), and overall it was yummy to eat. The two pieces that came out were enormous and a bit wonky shaped... made me wonder what on earth this fish looked like in its swimming days. The batter was quite tasty, crunchy but not too crunchy/hard, but it was so incredibly think I'm not sure I got fish in every bite. I took one piece home and give the fish part to my pup as a meal topper, and the ratio of breading I had to pull off compared to fish was a bit (quite a bit) much. Still, everything I ate was tasty. I got the salad with my dinner, and was so happy that it came out with quality greens instead of a chunk of iceberg type lettuce. Overall, I'd come back again if others wanted, but wasn't wild about the batter to fish ratio.

Ordered the soup and half sandwich special for $6!!! Soup was good flavor but the consistency was chalky, you can tell it was on too hot and milk had split. It was Thursday evening and they had a ribs/pulled pork special. We waited about 10 minutes at the bar for a table. The bar and atmosphere is great. Pretty bar lights and an old wood bar. I don't eat a whole lot of deep fried foods and that just seemed like a lot. I sat at the bar, and the bartender got to me pretty quickly and asked me if I wanted a drink. I ordered a glass of wine and a water, but had to ask him for a food menu. I opted for the grilled chicken sandwich with the side salad instead of fries. And then I waited. So long that the woman next to me made comments. People who showed up after I had ordered were eating fish before my sandwich showed up. The chicken was perfectly cooked, but completely lost on the sandwich. There was so much swiss on it, I could only taste cheese and bacon on greasy lightly toasted bread. The salad was barely dressed and just lettuce. I couldn't tell you what flavor the dressing was, but I piled the lettuce on top of the sandwich to try and cut some of the richness. I like cheese as much as the next gal, but it was a chicken sandwich. Even the mustard was lost. The prices are good, the actual restaurant was cute and just across from the capital. The portion was large, it just was lackluster.
