I went for the Rogan Josh, aloo ghobi and a splendid Peshwari naan, plus garlic rice and a Kingfisher. The curry was properly spicy and nicely bitter. The ghobi was good and the rice not at all bad. Portions are generous, with plenty to take away for tomorrow's breakfast! Bill came in at a little over $50, which might be on the high side, but for what amounts to two whole meals, not too bad. All in all, an authentic curry house and a nice addition to the growing choice in Halifax. Recommended.

The place was very busy around 8PM, but we got a table right away. The first thing that gave us a great feel was the fact that we were two of the only four white patrons in the entire dining room. I knew we were in for a treat. The staff was fantastic, quickly bringing water to our table and checking to see if we were ready to order. We eat a lot of Indian food, and I've got a lot of Indian friends from many years working in software roles. So, we do tend to be a little jaded on the quality of Indian restaurants. I did see a few dishes and breads we don't typically see at home in our favorite Indian places. My wife has a tendency to order the same dish when we go out for Indian every time, and I have a tendency to want to try different things. I was able to convince her to try the Murg Lawabdar (chicken) entree. I have to say, that may really be the best single Indian dish I've ever had. It was probably smart for us to tell our waitress "medium" when she asked what spice level we wanted. Medium at Mirchi is pretty darn hot and spicy, but by no means unbearable like a Vindaloo can get to. Murg Lawabdar was like a thick curry gravy, with tons of spices and a good heat level. I think using chicken thigh brings even more flavor to the dish, which also includes green pepper, chilis, and a good bit of onion. We split one order of this, and we couldn't even finish the whole thing. Trust me, we tried. I couldn't stop eating, it was so good. We also got the spicy chili garlic roti bread. Oddly enough, not many of our Indian restaurants around home offer roti. Almost all of them offer naan, though. The funny thing about this roti was that it was also spicy, sprinkled with red chili pepper flakes. So, when you tried to cool the fire from the Murg Lawabdar with the bread, it just got hotter! So, make sure you order some raita to go along with your meal. That goes a long way toward cooling you off if you reach the five-alarm fire level with a spicy dish. This place has very low-key cool vibe in a relatively small dining room. The atmosphere is so good, I highly recommend eating in the dining room instead of getting it to-go. This is as authentic as it gets, and I can't stress enough that this was one of the very best Indian meals I've ever had.

All very tasty and overall quite a sizeable portion. I was on the ravenous side of peckish when I arrived and left thoroughly stuffed, so you definitely get your value for the $23 with tip. It's not licensed, but has a nice line in cold drinks should you so desire. It's no surprise this place is consistently voted No.1 curry house in Halifax, though it has a lot more competition than it did when it first opened. Thoroughly recommended.

You'll need an order of plain basmati rice ($5) to balance off the dish's saltiness. For diners who love saucy dishes, the creamy tomato-based curry in the kaida chicken ($16.50) is lovely for slathering on rice or dipping naan into. Of all the dishes, it held the least heat but still incorporated enough spices for flavour. There were generous chunks of chicken steeped in the gravy, but I would have liked dark meat better as the chicken breast was a little tough. Tawa's shrimp biryani ($17.99) was huge and while the shrimp were overcooked the rice was moist and flavourful. I couldn't get enough of the dish and had bowl after bowl despite being stuffed. You will not leave hungry. Even their naan ($3; two orders in picture) was sizeable and seemed like it was coming from a never-ending basket. Do yourself a favour and start with one then add on as needed.

India Paradise: Quality - 6.75 Service - 7 Value - 6.5 Customer Care - 7 Atmosphere - 5.8 With an average score of 6.6, India Paradise is not OCC approved. Upon arrival to the restaurant, the OCC noticed that what must have been a previous establishment named Blue Sapphire still had their signage on the restaurant which led to some initial confusion. Nonetheless, we found our way. Despite making a reservation, there was no record of it. Luckily, they had a table available for 8 at our time of arrival. The aroma's as we walked into the restaurant were incredible. It might be helpful for you to think of the old time cartoon character Pepe Le Pew, as we floated in on the amazing scents of the food that was to come. The atmosphere was fairly quiet, and quaint. Perhaps better suited for a first date or a quiet family meal, rather than a large group gathering. We started with a round of Mango Lassi's. I have to say, there was a consensus throughout the group that these were the best Lassi's we've had in our pursuit of finding the best curry house in HRM. They were spiced incredibly well, the cardamom really popped, and we could tell they were made fresh to order. For breads, we tried the roti, garlic naan, and bullet naan - it was tough to distinguish between the garlic and bullet. We ordered the veg samosas and Afghani chicken to start. The samosas were spiced perfectly and were huge portions - I will note that each of us got a personal mint sauce, which was much appreciated. The Afghani chicken was perhaps the highlight of the night. The food did come out in a peculiar order, as we received the butter chicken and Dahl before we had any rice or bread which made eating it a bit challenging at first. The bread came out about 5 minutes later, and the rice (biryani's) about 15 minutes later. The butter chicken was very heavy on the tomato flavour, but the consistency was perfect. We also tried the goat and chicken biryani's, and goat curry. Everything came out piping hot, and 6 curries and 2 biryani's was the perfect amount for our group of 8. Also, the Lazy Susan on the table was an incredible value add. In summary, we regrettably cannot officially OCC approve India Paradise. Being right on Spring Garden means you're likely paying for the location, but food and service more than make up for it. There are great seating options - lots of romantic, private options. Great for groups or a date. Don't expect to park out front - it's Garden Rd, so expect to walk or grab a bus that stops outside. Food is authentic and spicy; the way you'd expect of good Indian food. Dishes come out piping hot and portions are good. You will definitely be packing some up to go if you share three dishes and an appetizer. Only downside here is that this is on the second floor and there are quite a few stairs so this is not accessible if you can't do stairs. Great food, great staff, a little pricey, but you get your money's worth!
